No he hasn’t, but it is pretty obvious that he would rather play for either Geelong or Port Adelaide. To land him we would have to cough up an obscene amount of money and beat the market in terms of draft picks/players to satisfy the Power. I would love to see Boak in a demon jumper but not at the cost which would be required.

You are seeing this unfold through the prism of the media and I think we have all learnt over the last year that the footy media is lazy, stupid, hackneyed, and, needlessly, opinion dominated.

The same media that got shots of Selwood, Bartel and Scott in Adelaide. We are not on Boak’s radar and the only way to get there would be money and draft picks.

Here we go fellas.

The new management team brought us Mitch Clarke.

Now for Travis Boak.

Melbourne's trade advantage could trump Geelong in race for Port Adelaide's Travis Boak

Haven't seen a lot of Boak. If Cats want him then must be good? Hope we get him and with Cloke/Clark/Jurrah forward set up could well be a huge turn of fortune for Melbouirne next year.

a little like Demonland indeed :)

Of course he's going to cost us. You generally get what you pay for.

A pick 4 and pick 12 swap for pick 7 and Boak is a bad trade on picks alone and he would command $800K in salary.

Speak for yourself.

Are you speaking for yourself?

I reckon we'd do that deal in a heartbeat.

I also reckon we'd trade pick 7 for Caddy if we don't consider that a clear better option will fall to us at that pick. Better to get a quality youngster with two years senior experience under his belt than have to wait for another kid do that apprenticeship.

Inject Pick 3, Boak, Caddy and Viney into our side and we are suddenly a whole different proposition in the middle of the ground.

And Boak won't command 800k. But I would be prepared to give him a five year deal. That may be the clincher in fact.

He'll take $450k. He's nowhere near $800.

$450K from Geelong. Not us.

What would Port get in return then from Geelong ?

Not as much as pick 4. That's for sure.

I have been thinking 4 and 13 for Boak and 7 was fair but this draft has some nice prospects in that top4-5 range that just wont be there at pick 7

Grundy, Toumpas seem huge talents who we will have access to at pick 3/4

We might have to accept that we only get one shiny new toy from the top 3 or 4 in order to get Boak as well.

Our need to have blokes ready to rock round one, 2013 overrides that luxury IMO.

Why is 2013 that important? We need to build a list capable of winning a flag, not keeping the coach in a job.

Why the hell would we trade 4 and 12 for boak + 7? We could offer 12 alone and cats could not match that pick for port. In addition we can up geelong's salary offer easily. Win for boak and port.

I hope we can but it is on the cards, given their obvious desire for the player, that Geelong will try to trump our pick 12 by offering a player as well. They may even do a deal with a side with a pick higher than 12 to try and outbid us.

The 4 & 12 for Boak & 7 deal would likely blow the Cats out of the water, and make it hard for any other club for that matter.

That's because it would be a bad trade for us.

Solution: Keep picks and draft well, target free agents, front load contracts of best talent.

The only trades possibly worth considering involving picks 3 or 4 would be for the mini-draft.

It is a hard call, pick 4 could be Morton or Pendelbury or Judd ect

Do you take Boak who i think is no better than Jones or do you take ths risk for a chance at a superstar

Let's have a bob each way. Use 3 to get a possible superstar and 4 to land proven 23yo midfielder.

The club will be thinking along these lines and I can guarantee it.

Easy to take potshots Fat-T. Harder to work solutions.

That's not a potshot, that's the truth. Giving all that up for Travis Boak would be highway robbery.

Oliver Wines already looks a far more interesting prospect anyways.

That is a fair call and good thinking, would be a shame to lose out on a Roughead/Franklin combo but then again could be genius

Yep, Boak so desperately wants to go to Geelong that Bartel, Selwood and Scott flew over to sample the nightlife.

They definitely weren't there desperately trying to talk him into coming across.

Idjut.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
