"Just adapting to the way we want to play - if we can get 22 players doing that, then I think we can be a good side"

Interesting comment from Blease.

Does this mean that this year we did not have 22 players "buying in".

Wasn't it obvious? Jumper numbers 15 and 22 spring to mind immediately.

And 36.

Those intent on laying the blame on Neeld, and saying certain players have been hard done by, should read what is a refreshing and candid interview with Blease here

Blease's shift in attitude this year was apparent. It was clear. And as a result of "buying in" and improving his football, he was rewarded with a contract.

Those refusing to buy-in are on the outer for a reason

Agree that was an interesting quote. What I found equally as interesting is that he is "trying to build a good relationship" with the coach. Surely after 12 months and with everything that has happened to the club, he should have a good relationship rather than "trying"; especially if he has a good one with Craig.

Don't get me wrong I think these players have probably had it too easy over the years but I am scared Neeld is not warming to the players. Of course one way of fixing this is sacking those players (what is that impact I wonder?)

Neelds will build his team his way, it's the only way to seriously challenge for ultimate success

I don't really care if Neeld or the players are warming to each other, so long as the players respect him, and buy in to the game plan. I don't think that many players would have 'warmed' to Northy, Allan Jeans, Pagan etc. but I am positive that their players respected them, trusted the game plan and they got results.

After this trade period I am pretty certain that there will be no doubt with who is left, ... and the phrase 'Buy In' will be not required any more.

Had a cushy job at a successful club. Could have stayed there for a few more years. Could have chosen an easier option like Adelaide or St Kilda but no he came to the basket case that was/is the MFC and has staked his entire fledgling coaching career on turning around the Titanic.

He's been prepared to put self-satisfied noses out of joint, sack ineffectual leaders, drop soft no. 1 draft picks and most importantly completely dismantle a useless game plan that would have seen us fold under the first sign of trouble in a final.

And he's prepared to get flogged week-in week-out, enduring the inevitable calls for his sacking by supporters fearful of change, in order to get the job done.

Hard as f..!k this bloke and I for one stand up and applaud him for having the cojones to put his own future in the game on the line in order to turn this joint into what for most of the past 47 years it has only ever been masquerading as ... and that's a football club.

I'm backing him in come hell or high water.

Agree with you 100% RR :)

Does anyone know about these meetings that Don McLardy and the coaching staff were having with the members during the season about where we're heading into the future?

I heard Don speak of them during a interview on SEN a few months back.

Did anyone on here go to one of them? I am very interested in what was said.

the best coaches have the players coming to them, not the Coach going to the player... that is tail wagging dog.

Players should have a bit of fear & respect for the power of a Coach.

Blease probably didn't have a 'good relationship' with the Neeld if he wasn't fully embracing the new program. Trying to build one now.

As Oucher said they don't have to be friends but the players need to respect the coach which I imagine is part of the buying in process

Neeld is the answer.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
