I read in the age (last Saturday I think) that Robert Doyle was supporting MFC moving to a new site at Docklands.

While I might be a luddite I think that the MCG and Melbourne should be inseperable.

With the Casey option as the progressive expansion model I think we should be cementing the MCG contact as much as possible.

If there are difficulties with overcrowding at AAMI should we look at moving the other teams out.

Could there be any deal done with the Punt road oval to make it the home of Melbourne football??

The MCG is already being diluted as our home with other clubs sharing it as home on game day

while new facilities may be fanrtastic would it have the same heritage as the melbourne park sports centre containing MCG

and should we be the club to move from AAMI if problems there???

They could build a floating bridge across the tasman with all the discarded memberships.

As for moving the other aami tenants out......

Remember it is a purpose built NRL/ASF sized stadium

And we are vastly outnumbered there

There are thousands of Tigers fans in Tassie, bucketloads....along with Hawks & Saints fans. Not many Demons though unfortunately.

I thought we had 5 year options at AAMI.

That article in the AGE was a 20 year Master Plan.

I'd love to be around to see that, but more importantly see another premiership.

It hasn't been ours for decades, and never will be again.

It now belongs to the AFL, and Victorian teams as a collective.

Fight some battles we can win.

Lay claim to something worth claiming that is actually attainable.

dp i understand what you are saying, but if that Docklands precinct gets built it will be a dead set cracker facilities.

I don't like the way all the victorian clubs have lost their home grounds. I consider Etihad Stadium a disaster...The reason i refuse to go to it...Cold Soulless Junk it is.

Agree with this. MFC are a tenant like others, but with a much smaller supporter base. The only team that knows, or cares, about the past MFC links with the pace is Melbourne.

Melbourne should pack up and move to Casey. Build first class facilities there and get involved with the community. I don't believe that a membership base will be built with the current occasional visit.

I have always (since losing the G as our home )looked longingly at the Punt Rd oval as a Permanent home like Richmond has.

We were dudded in the original deal and we need to make something permanent in our area

That isnt something at Docklands that nobody would want or need to go to

Just to sort wheat from chaff...our situation with AAMI is a relatively short term committment with ongoing options.

Our ancestoral home is and always will be the MCG but reality is it aint our home anymore and never will be. The Stadium is far too multi dimensional in its corporate dealings tofacilitate our ever being theTenant. Everyoine needs to move on from this ave a trcukload of panadol.

Docklands has been mooted for a few years now as a possibility. Various sites and options have beendiscussed with nothing really ( tmk ) showing up as a conceptual model. So far is all gas and strutting. But for mine its an idea with merit that ought to be fleshed out. Why would yo not take a look at whats on offer.

Whilst it made be very romatic for us Melbourne to be linked to the G, its more important that we are seenas the most relevent team for our fair city. This takes nothign away from our endeavours and efforts with the Casey area as that is a long term project that I am certain will reap rewards.

But when you consider the ofrecasted population growth of Melbourne ( we will rank #1 in about 15-20 years ) and the huge population growth of inner Melbourne then youd be mad not to consider a base there.

We dont have to...but we ought to look at it

p.s at least wed still be relevaent to MELBOURNE

other clubs.. who can remain nameless but are Filthy , if they keep moving in teh direction they are they will eventually be looked upon as a Bayside team and nothing to do with their original roots lol

It would seem though that we and most teams are never going to be a single tenant to support a stand alone venue

Maybe we can include alliances with other Melbourne branded clubs in other sports.

I think this is where I was heading in mentioning our" ancestral" home and just hoping that heritage does not get lost in the hype.

The Melbourne Football Club is a sporting section of the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Melbourne Cricket Club runs the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

So (and I do not give a damn what other clubs do) the Melbourne Cricket Ground is our turf.

However, like other sporting sections (squash, bowls, hockey etc.) we need to train away from the MCG and if a new and better facility becomes available at Docklands we must examine it carefully.

And as for crowds at the G: just wait 'till we start winning some games and the supporters will come. They have in the past and they will again.
