Common sense prevails. I reckon every non-Essendon and probably many Essendon supporters would agree that this is the right result.

Correct decision...to fly in that weather was ridiculous....could have lost both planes...

Next time check the iphone weather app...what a shocking waste of $$$ AFL.

Just LOVED "The Age" headline to this story ; "WINDY DILLS " ! Then again , didn't WE send our players down to Geelong recently THE NIGHT BEFORE THE MATCH ?!!

Begs the question really, do you put all your good players in one plane and hope for the best, or do you split them into 2 groups?

Good to see St Kilda get the four points. It's NAB Cup so the points are fairly meaningless, but the idea of tossing a coin to decide who got the points made baby Jesus cry.

This is real schoolyard stuff. Claiming wins on forfeit or by toss of the coin. Neither side was likely to play off in the finals under this system so what's the big deal?

If they want the points make them play a game at Etihad on Tuesday night and donate the proceeds to charity.

I would have thought the schoolyard stuff was the suggestion that a toss of the coin should be used to decide who gets the points!

The weather wasn't 'ridiculous' to fly in and there's no suggestion Essendon's planes were at risk of crashing because of the weather, so let's not get ridiculous. Furthermore, the pilots did more than 'check the weather app' when they left Melbourne.

I grew up in Wangaratta and I think its an absolute disgrace, the time saved by flying instead of driving (when you take into account the commute to and from the airports, boarding time etc.) would have been perhaps 1 hour max. Yet the additional cost would have been huge by flying. Really makes Essendon look like a bunch of toffs.

But i really feel for the local fans who bought all 11,000 tickets! My old man was helping out with a few things on the night and said many of those people were families, who due to financial circumstances, would rarely if ever have the opportunity to see an AFL game. I don't care who gets the points but its a slap in the face for a footy mad town and the local kids who missed out. The AFL needs to arrange something to make it up to them!!!

I'm To0tally with ya, 'Ascobar'.

I reckon the AFL Must put on a Freebie practice match up they're (with 2 of the 'out of the Nab cup' teams)...

If Essendon had have sent they're players they're a day early, they could have done a great community service, meet & greet, prior to the gameday.

But no, they want to Leer jet, then bomb out.

any time you cannot land a plane it can get very dangerous. The weather app comment was for the AFL and Essendon. The weather was on the way days out and they should have been on to it.

The fuel loads got fairly light so lets just say they were lucky to be all ok.

What Rogue is (presumably) saying is that the pilot's extensive experience allowed him to make the judgement that flying and landing would be okay - this far and away trumps anything an iPhone app will tell you. That he made the wrong call is largely moot - you'd never trust the judgement of an iPhone app over that of an experienced pilot.

i am sure Rogue is able to answer himself, but the fact remains that super cell was not going to move & was getting darker. I was following the Tullamarine radar for most of the day on the laptop & the iphone.

The airline company & the pilots made a call that was wrong. 3 attempts to land is serious, as it uses a lot of fuel.

Now i am happy those same pilots got both those planes down again, because once they had got up near Wang they would have been sh!tting themselves just quietly as i said 3 attempts is serious.

Cannot believe the bus was on standby and was not used. Having been in those 19 seaters i am very glad they got down even if it was Essendon!

And next time they should follow the radar forecasts much much closer.

I really did LOL. Nice one Rogue

Nice to see that a bit of sense has prevailed out of AFL house for once. Here's hoping that this is the start of an upward trend in the AFL house common sense graph. And to the Bummers, hahahahahahaha, douchebags! Love to see those mugs looking the fool.
