Conspiracy Theory

For all you conspiracy theorists who enjoy these, here is one to consider.

Could the AFL have masterminded the whole Scully scenario from the very time he was first chosen by Melbourne at the draft. Demetriou was clearly sick of defending tanking and it really hit the headlines as a result of some of our performances. He orchestrates GWS taking him away from us and we get compo picks that while ok are not the real worth of what was lost, a number 1 draft pick player two years into his development.

The headlines early on when Scully announces he is off are massive publicity for the new club and he hurts Melbourne for blatant tanking. He then praises an illegal act by the GWS in trying to hide the father's contract with GWS at a heavily inflated price and duration, even though the league investigator has called the deal a total sham.

It all has a ring of truth to it now, doesn't it?

Maybe Phil was the grassy knoll....

And Demetriou was the second shooter.

I have thought this also. No doubt the AFL were mad at Melbourne for not having winning as their top priority.

Scully was gone when Trengove and Tapscott first re-signed and he didn't.

That explains Demetriou claiming it was a master stroke, he was publicly patting him self on the back

Not to want to blow my own trumpet but I suggested, much to the chagrin of the majority on here, this was likely the case halfway through the season.

Exactly who hatched the plot may never be known. My money is on Sheeds and Grubby who then sought the tacit approval of the Fat Man, which they got.

Someone early on - I think it was Old55 - suggested that one's view of the issue would necessarily be coloured by how one views life in general. ie. Whether you are generally cynical about human nature or whether you're more willing to take things at face value and give people the benefit of the doubt.

Unfortunately in this case our worst fears were realized. Conspiracies do occur.

Irrespective of what people thought of Scully's intentions around the begining of the season most rational people will have realised that something was clearly wrong come the middle of the season. If they didn't then perhaps they need more life skills development.

I'm sorry, but this thread screams 'MOON LANDING WAS FAKED!!!' to me. Let's all just get on with our lives and leave Tom Scully to his comfortable, likely chaste - and certainly sober - life.

Tom Scully - Cyborg-like, unemotional professionalism

MFC - Struggling for direction and leadership

GWS - Huge pot of cash

AFL - Bloody minded expansion agenda

A combination of these factors

i was not around for the man on the moon landing, and i believe it was faked, and also belive the Scully situation WAS set up by the AFL very early in Toms days at the MFC

you seriously believe the moon landing was faked?

I think there's no doubt Andy feels no sympathy for us after having to say that tanking doesn't exist.

Is this thread implying we were TOLD to pick $cully by the AFL to avoid tanking sanctions?

This thought did cross my mind at times over the last 2 years. That Richmond game was just so blatant. As good as it was i always expected a backlash.

Nowhere near as blatant as the Kreuzer Cup............and...we damned near won the McMahon Cup!

The positional moves against Richmond were far more blatant. They had to be to get the desired result!!

It has always suprised me that the AFL made no comment after that game. I shall never forget the radio broadcast on SEN. They were all laughing except KB.

In the McMahon Cup the coach tanked but the players tried to win.......result close game lost by kick after siren

In the Kreuzer Cup the coach tanked and the players tanked..........result scum lost by a walkover

you tell me which was more blatant

you seriously believe the moon landing was faked?

No it's not.

If that were true and could be proved I would think the MFC could have grounds to sue the AFL. There is a fair difference between a club constructing their affairs to advantage themselves (within the rules) as opposed to the overseer of the competition constructing things to advantage one team to the detriment of another.........oh! Hang on, silly me! The AFL has been doing that for decades!!

i don't believe that players Tank. The risk of serious injury is too great. The MFC had to tank harder against Richmond because both sides were absolute rubbish. Against Carlscum they just left Trapper roam free to kick goals.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
