More 80's rock ...

Went to absolute sensational gig at the Caravan Club on Saturday night - Gregory Page - solo.

Only 40 people in the audience - must be the time of the year. He was captivating and made you feel he was singing to you and you alone.

( any Sydney'ites - he is on at Leadbelly Newton on the 12th Jan - if roots ( if 1930's jazz is your thing - he is the bomdiggety)

More 70's Southern rock ...

Not sure if anyone has seen this...most of you will know the song and have seen some versions.

...but this is a most fantastic clip, really well done.

It took me some time into it before I realised what was happening.

A brilliant performer... and physically he looks like a cross between Sean Connery and Mel Gibson.

A couple from one of my favourite bands from the 70's ... the first track is more meaningful whilst the 2nd is a rocky little number that the band obviously enjoyed doing (watch for Shirl's signature move, 2 mins in)

Couple from 'Fall Out Boy' ...

This is late news, but RIP Robbie Souter who passed away last week on the 11th May... he was the original drummer with the Dynamic Hepnotics, as well as playing with Mental As Anything, Slim Dusty and numerous small Sydney bands.  Was a lovely guy and will be sorely missed by the many who knew him.

okay...so I was interested and went along to see The Tiger Lillies on Sunday night. They have been doing their act for 27 years !

Truly bizarre and truly brilliant. (most of the night I was thinking - "what the hell am I watching?")

New kids on the block ( a statement - not the horrible boy band)

If anyone gets a chance to see the Teskey Brothers I highly recommend they do. They are the bom-diggerty.

Great Post, Nut. Me love The Teskeys.

Saw them at the Holler festival at the caravan club on a warm Saturday afternoon. They blew everyone away.

They are selling out show after show  - after seeing them I understand why.

Devastated at Chester Bennington's death at age 41 ( apparently suicide). I am a huge Linkin Park fan - especially their early work  - nothing quite matches up to Hybrid Theory. RIP Chester

Double devastated - Not only Chester from LP died this week, The Caravan Music Club is shutting its doors from 2018.

It is highly successful, the sound is great and the room is great however it is in the hall out back of the Oakleigh RSL and the Caravan Club proprietor wants to invest money to make it better but they are not interested and he also wants to take over the running of the bar ( which is diabolically slow and inefficient) - whilst giving the RSL the profits from the bar, Again they weren't interested. I respect returned servicemen but geez the board of this RSL are crusty old farts.

Not many bands go from playing a cider festival in Wonga Park to selling out 4 gigs at the Corner in 6 months.

I agree with Nut - check 'em out if the chance presents. Their album is worth the investment too. Going the vinyl seemed a good idea at the time but it's a [censored] to play in the car !

Reckon the OCRSL will regret this in the not too distant future. It will be sad to see that great old room & stage fall into disuse when it's been so vibrant. No doubt the Caravan Club will rise from these ashes but where ?????

The roll call of acts they've had there is amazing. A couple of my fave gigs there were The Black Sorrows where the indefatigable Joe Camelleri spent a Sunday arvo blowing the roof off the joint and Joe Creighton's "Into the Mystic" show which is a cracker.

Peter Foley spent big money getting the sound just right and the artists love him because he looks after them ( apparently most venues don't).

I know he is actively out looking for a new venue but it is a real shame to me as there is something really special about the room - it just works.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
