I could do that WYL but suspect that I wouldn't get far.

People like Demetriou, Anderson & co are the money men of football and while I accept that financial strength is important for the sport to continue, I doubt whether they're particularly interested in the game's history and in preserving the richness of the game's heritage.

All they're interested in is the money and marketing and if the game in western Sydney can be promoted with the odd ... er, exaggeration of the facts, then so be it - the bums on the seats are what seems to matter the most.

And if they tread on a few toes and upset existing clubs, then what the heck!

Nevertheless, it wouldn't hurt them to know that at least a section of the Footy public knows that they are blatantly lying.

Hell, if this could be construed as an advertisement, it may even be actually illegal under truth in advertising laws.

Have you considered putting it in the wider domain such as BigFooty, or even sending it to say the H-S, or may we quote you in such fora?

Providing the locals turn up, there will be enough bums there. There are a lot of dole-bludging bums around Rooty Hill.

Interesting people saying we need to move on. Not so easy - I "invested" in believing him and even if I still maintain that I have no idea what was done when, I feel betrayed to the extent that his actions have flown in the face of his March presser. Tom, you cannot say in March that "I see my future here, I would like to be a one club player and anticipate that will be the case" to say 9 months later " I want to be a Giant for life" .

May you rot in hell.

I promised myself I was going to ignore this thread but here I am!

Agree BB,

he is no longer at the dees

Can we all forget about him.

Lets concentrate on Positives at the MFC for 2012

to say we wasted a number 1 draft pick is very stupid, we had our number 1 turned into 7+8 or something like that, which could end up being a winner, especially if 'the [censored] breaks down with injury his whole career which is distinctly possible

also, there is no way we would have Mitch Clark if 'the [censored]' had decided to soak up all that cash we offered him.. so if Clark ends up being an important player to us you can chalk that up us a win too

i'm at peace with it

If it was 7+8 it would be palatable but from my understanding its more likely to be 12+18 or something like that.

Can anyone enlighten?

So it just shows we should have been more diligent in our original selection doesn't it. That's what hurts for me. $cully can go [censored] himself, but we don' get that draft pick again. So like Nut, i feel a certain betrayal. Edited by why you little

as good a guess as any

i think in terms of 1 x low-teens plus 1 x mid-teens

certainly nowhere near 7+8

It depends upon which club(s) have priority pick(s) or use compo picks. I'm most likely wrong here but I think I read on another thread it would be 10-14.

Certainly not single digit first round pick anyway.

That's if we use them in the national draft(s).... Or we trade them in next year's mini draft for a chance at a higher quality return. Or trade them to net an established youngish star.

The question is, which alternate method will invariably achieve the quality midfield we desire ? TH & Co. are in the best position to decide that path.

This is an interesting point WYL, and one that I hadn't thought about becuase being in the minority, I did take $cum-bag on face value.

As B59, and many, many others stated, they believed he was gone, and a lot had in fact belived that he had "signed" as early as October 2010. If that were the case, that is less than 12 months afater we signed him up. How, in 11 months, could this player go from being a number 1 draft pick, being offered a 2 year deal, and said to be one of the most professional footballers ever seen at that age, just totally wipe the Club in the fashion he did? Sure, money was a big factor, but there has to be more to it than that.

Season 2011 brought up a couple of issues for mine that sadly I don't think we will ever get the honest truth about. The $cummy saga as I've just commented on, how the players could allow 186 to happen, and even the 3rd quarter against the Hawks, and the Eagles match.

Exactly my point Billy...There is more to it, we will find out in time...but considering the heart ache a lot of supporters went through in swallowing pride etc, the loss of this draft pick will always irk me..like a slow burn.

Yes i think we will...Enough players and officials covered for the little rat all year....Someone will talk....but it will take time.

Could well be in book form..eminating from the AFL Melbourne or GW$, but it will follow $cully and his father throughout their careers.

Even opposition supporters realize how badly were were shafted, they are just glad it wasn't them involved.

there was an extra 3 million bucks sitting on the table why does there have to be anything else to it?

we get a 'mid-first round' doesn't that mean about pick 8/9?

the other is directly after our standard pick which, if we finish 10th, will result in 7+8?

Yes indeed, but how far back did the offer go C & B...And when our Fat Controller read out "number one Tom $cully Melbourne" was he not already aware of the impending deal?

The AFL have said nothing at all about Father $cully, yes i know he is part of their cap, but that cap is endless at this point so it is mere glossy icing really...

Good Teams do not waste a high draft pick, and sadly we did.

so what should we have done, just given the [censored] an equal offer, effectively taking it straight out of the pockets of Watts, Trengove, Frawley, Jurrah, McKenzie? No bloody chance

it was bad luck we had a player ripe for the plucking at the moment the AFL was gifting a new club whatever they want

besides, it was 'luck' we got he and Trengove in the first place anyway, the AFL's garbage worked FOR us on that occasion

like I said, two first rounders plus the financial freedom to keep other young guns AND poach Mitch clark, for a player who is possibly injury-stuffed is not too bad an outcome for mine

pick a team - any team and i will give you a wasted draft pick.

Edit - scully is a number one draft - but if i go back through drafts i will find most clubs have wasted a first rounder - Collingwood Fraser, StKilda Kosi, Carlton Brock for 14 lol

Yes you are right to a point, but we had more of a chance to see what was going to unfold....and that's what irks me. GW$ had already been voted on by the AFL when the T$ name was read out...

I agree with everything you have said except we should have known better. Everyone would have taken Scully - everyone would have been duped. Nobody had the slightest suspicion except to think he was quiet, shy, focussed kid. Clubs have wasted picks on non performing talent, we wasted one on non performing character. I dont think we could have known

We shouldn't have chosen him...that's what i am saying....Your idea of a "not too bad outcome" is certainly not mine

We are just dead lucky we have Jack Viney in the wings....But Jack and a number one 2009 Draft pick working together is what it should be...I blame no one C & B but it will not be forgotten like '87 0r '58.

Those who say "just get over it" are delusional...i want a 13th Cup.

You're fast talking me into believing that this had been going on for a lot longer than October 2010! Is that why the AFL didn't take any action against us after Bailey talked about "doing the best thing for the football club"? Was Vlad fully aware of Tom's movements, therefore allowing us to have the first 2 picks, knowing too well that we would lose one almost as soon as the ink dried on the contract?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
