Ok so a bit of this slipped into footy discussion lately, and we all have to be watching something....

Lets talk about what we are watching, what others should be watching, whats better ect

ATM im watching Dexter, just finished Breaking Bad, The walking dead is good, Boardwalk empire anyone else like these?

Anything else i should get into?

Personally im a big dexter fan, alot of people going on about BB atm and season 4 of that, its not as good as the Trinity season of Dexter or Season one for that matter but good non the less. And Season 6 is doing enough for me atm, wont be ground breaking but delivers what i expect.

Only just got a hold of Community.

Finished both seasons in no time - brilliant show.

Tudors was a good series - helpful also that you can get the whole thing and not have to wait for a new season.

Heard a passing reference to Boardwalk Empire on RRR today . Anyone have info about it or where it can be accessed?

It can be accessed from the internet, dont know if its on pay even atm?

Anyway is a good show, alot of people seemed to like it more than i did,, not that i thought it was bad, just could have moved alot faster than it did imo.

Definitely set up season 2 to deliver a bit more though...

I get my stuff from the Net.

The mob behind Sopranos; Tim Van Patten et al have been behind a few of my favorite shows.

Rome - although only 2 series and it is now about 5 years old is really good. Out on DVD

Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones have come on almost back to back. both excellent. Boardwalk is into its second series.

Homeland which was recommended by George on the Outer has been my latest download and it is fantastic.

I have tried to get into the Walking Dead but it isnt in the class of the above.

I missed too much of season 2 and 3 of BB and am considering re-starting, although many say just go with it from the current series.

Downton Abbey series 2 has been the one I most look forward to each Monday (Its on UK TV on Sunday nights).

Homeland although totally different is nearly as good.

Wide Open Road is a rip off of the Surfing show (Bombora?) that screened last year.

I think The Slap is the best local product this year.

I tried reading the book but couldnt get into it, as I had no sympathy for any of the characters.

If I want to listen to peoples woes that I dont care about I only have to come to work...

How far into Walking Dead did you get? i found that the end to the first season, only episode 5o r 6 got alot better, started season 2 and it is really good imo, well alot better than the first, anyone else agree or is it just me?

Also the walking dead is very much like the movie 28 days later ect...zombie series

Its good you say that as the gore has turned the WAF way down. By all IMDB reports it does get better.

So Im on my pat malone from episode 3. I will stick with it but it will not be aired in Prime time...Its thrilling but not in the same class as the other shows.

i.e. the "walking" are comically zombie-like and there has been no explanation why yet.

I dont have Foxtel but the Andrew Fraser show "Killing Time" looks good. That starts tonight I think.Hope to hell he isnt played as anything but a leech though.

i finished all of Breaking Bad last night....Wow what a show!!!

Superb all through in my eyes....writing, acting...You name it.

Where will season 5 go?? That's the beauty of the whole show....until it happens the viewer has NO idea.

So now it's time for Season 2 of Boardwalk Empire....Season 1 was Epic.

Yes and i recommend "Wide Open Road" on ABC iview....Great programme.

" Person of Interest " is worth a look - it's a bit "out there" but if you like that sort of thing ................

And "Louie" is excellent - more of a comedy/drama than a straight comedy but very funny in parts .

Can't beat Breaking Bad, the best show on TV atm, best show since Oz and the Soprano's.

I also watch The Walking Dead - if you don't like zombie stuff, don't bother. I love it so I enjoy the show. I'm liking the way the characters are changing over time (not after being bitten).

Boardwalk Empire is great, second season is really hitting its straps.

Big fan of Dexter, though last season was terrible, terribly written and terribly pointless. Julia Styles is terrible to look at.

This season has it back on track.

Game of Thrones is great, slow in parts but had me hooked in the end and hanging out for S02.

Watched the first episode of American Horror Story, wasn't bad. I'll keep watching it just for the maid, hot damn!

Comedies.

Louie, Curb', Eastbound and Down, An Idiot Abroad, Peep Show, Tosh.0.

Reality.

The Ultimate Fighter.

Season 2 of "Boardwalk Empire" is just superb so far...a seamless story unfolds...

Yeah , great show - Steve Buscemi as "Nucky Thompson" is great and has really grown into the role - production values are second to none as well .

"Killing Time" is an Aussie crime/drama mini-series worth a look - more underworld stuff set in the last few decades - might have been shown earlier this year but I've just caught up with it .

OK been up to date with the second season of Walking dead and it started really well, dropped away badly after the first 2 episodes for a LONG time imo.... got a little better at the last episode that i saw...will keep you tuned.

DL Board walk empire now was looking for something to watch

I literally watched 8 seasons of "entourage" and dont feel bad about it haha, so many of the characters are likable but the show is pretty much just and actor or 2 his mates some parties ect girls on and off yaddayadda. OH and the best "agent" in the world (for actors) not spies.

EDIT - DEXTER IS AWESOME all i will say, it is my pet show but yeah i think season 6 is back on track...what ever the latest is

I did the same with Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad. Very easy to get sucked into both (and Entourage), although the new season of SOA seems a bit too contrived. Still very watchable though.

My tip for anyone looking for a laugh is It's Always Funny In Philadelphia. It's an absolute pissah, Danny Devito is priceless in it, really makes the show.

Yeah , IASIP is very good JJ . What an awful , opportunist bunch hey ? A train wreck really but funny as .

A big departure from "Sunny" is a new comedy called "New Girl" . Better than I thought it would be . Kinda corny but Zooey Deschanel is terrific and plays a zany type sharing a loft with 3 blokes . One of those shows you immediately like or ...........................

Haha, yes. reminds me of the Seinfeld Kramer painting quote "He is a loathsome, offensive brute. Yet I can't look away".

Actually now i think about it, one of my must watch shows of the week is Sunday Best on ABC. A collection of the best documentary's.

The series started of with the brilliant doco's The Wave and Hoops Dreams.

Last week was The Agony And Ecstasy of Phil Spector. I highly recommend it, still available to watch on ABC Iview.

Ha ha ha ! Must see if I can find that painting on the net and update my avatar !

I never get tired of Seinfeld , my favourite episode is when George is "O'Brien" in "The Limo" . Classic .

Gervais and Merchant fans need to check out 'Life's Too Short'. I watched the first 4 episodes yesterday and I love it. A lot of recycled jokes/style from the Office and Extras, but hey, whatever works. They also make a lot of fun of themselves in the process.

Warwick Davis is excellent.

Nice one. I've watched a couple of episodes and I don't mind it at all. It reminds me a little of Scrubs, quirky, feelgood comedy.

Last Sunday's "Sunday Best" was very interesting. Followed a young Indian boy who had run 48 marathons by the time he was 4. Yes that's right I said 48 (fourty eight) marathons by the age of 4 (four). On ABC IView for anyone who missed it.

For those of you who like your "Westerns" , there's a brand new series called "Hell on Wheels" set immediately after the Civil war . It centres on the building of the Trans Continental Railroad by the Union Pacific Company ............... Tough , Gritty and pulls no punches . Here's the IMDb link ..............

Re "Hell on Wheels" - I've watched 2 episodes so far and I'm getting hooked .

Good thread this one as there's been some good shows recommended by others that I've got into .

"Homeland" was one and "Life's too Short" is another . "Breaking Bad" is on my list as well !

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
