$urprise, $urprise, $cully $enior Employed by GW$

He may become a champion player, but he won't do it at a champion club. At least not for 6 years, till he returns to live in

Melbourne.

But see, this is where the $cullys fail, for they never understood that real champions are defined just as much by their off-field conduct as what they do on the park.

No-one can seriously begrudge them the money. Good luck to them on that. But they can be judged on the way they conducted themselves throughout the whole process, and that was nothing short of a disgrace.

He can win 8 best and fairests and hold 3 premiership cups aloft at that PR exercise masquerading as a football club but he'll still never be a champion in the true sense of that word.

The Sully name is permanently tarnished in this game.

Just as I predicted months ago. If someone can find my post for me I would like to re read it.

That you did Redleg.

And if you think I'm going to trawl through several 30+ page Scully threads to retrieve it, think again.

Dont see what the hooha is

Scully seniors appointment is not seen as arms length to the Scully junior appointment so his salary is part of the TPP. End of story. ( The Judd payment from Visy is what has me going "wtf ?")

For those who are questioning how he interviewed. Have a look at how he answered questions at his press interview in March. I have repeated ad nauseum that I have no idea when he signed, when he decided etc etc but my dislike for the man is based on two responses

1/ how do you resist the big money offered - see exactly how he answered that

2/ I want to be a one club player and envisage that will be the case

There is no stepping back from the comments he made in that press conference. I took his comments at face value and his actions flew in the face of his comments. Therefore the dislike.

As I said previously - if you look at Ablett Junior last year - he said nothing the whole year. he did not do the press conference - he did not make any statements. Tom did and then stepped back from his comments. A man of very low integrity. ( had he said nothing and taken the bucks then no problem - I hold him to his press conference statements and condemn him).

I have semi moved on. I think about who is at the club yet still bear a grudge.

GWS seems too inbred for my liking...

Mark Stevens is attempting a joke. Ward's mum isn't media manager of GWS.

You're kidding!

Using dollar signs in place of the letter 'S' isn't funny or clever. Just sayin'...

In for a penny, in for a pound ...

And a couple of Yen to boot - you have done well.

Couldn't find a 'u'?

Try an old Israeli Shekel.

The new one can also be used but it looks like an 'n' and 'u' mating...

Currency humour is fun!

And value for money!

Question to AFL - Were the compensation picks awarded to the club calculated including Phil Scully's wage which must fit into Total player payments?

If not, the club have grounds for further compensation, not to mention compensation for not being able to use it during trade week.

Good post. I love the lateral thinking. It's worthy of raising, as that expresses or anger, even though we already know the answer.

Let them have some fun. They are entitled to be upset and it is pretty harmless compared to some things that have been said. After all its not every day that a number 1 pick walks out on his club within 2 years of being drafted. What am I saying, it has never happened before.

I like the fact the afl have picked up on this.

I reckon they see this for what it is - the whole Scully family has worked the system in a way no-one ever expected.

It's clear from the Sun article that Scully senior sought the job from GWS - they did not approach him

Just heard Anderson on radio say that ALL of $cully Snr wage has been put under the salary cap. Very dodgy situation, should we ask for bigger compensation? This was worked out a long time ago, if i was inside the MFC i would be furious.

I sourced it on Big Footy.

I don't think it would change the classification of our compo.

It does mean that HWMNBN will cost them around $2.2m in their salary cap in 2012 and $1m for the next 5 years...

That should cause some issues and shake loose some homesick talent...

Hopefully as a penalty they're forced to play the big unit at full-forward next year.

Ablett got $9M over 5 years and we got the same compo.

When you die all that's left are memories, usually fond, unless you're just a money grubbing leach that not only exploits a system but you're own son.

These Scullys are serious pieces of work! Still can't believe people think this was all decided a few weeks ago. Suckers!!!!!

Haha!! This was all put in motion the day the fat controller read out $cully's name in the 2009 draft. I put coin on that. His value to GW$ has just increased thus our compensation should also be readjusted.

Reported today that $cully $enior was ringing around list management groups at different clubs, trying to glean more information about required skill sets, etc.

Who gave him the contacts?

GWS could hardly employ an assistant list manager with rock all experience AND pay him double what every other assistant list manager is paid.

Obvious this family will do anything to feather their own bank accounts. I am glad he is gone TBH, but i seriously wish the club had smelt the stench way earlier. Dustin Martin would have been most handy. Number one draft picks don't appear each day, and we blew that one sadly.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
