NTFL

WhateverItTakes

Recommended Posts

I'm being moved to Darwin in November for work, and couldn't help but notice that the NTFL is actually played during the wet season up there and hence starts next weekend!

So I'm looking for a team to follow. Any ideas? At the moment I'm thinking the Eagles or the Buffaloes (there are no Demons)?

Also, could anyone give me an idea on the league and it's past winners, some good players, etc?

Thanks ;)

Haha unfortunately I'm pretty petty and therefore a bit reluctant to follow the Bombers.. or the Magpies..

We did recruit Matty Whelan from the Buffaloes, and they also won a Premiership in 1964. Luckily it wasn't their last :P

I'd say go for the Tahs. But I'm biased, played for them as a Junior.

Got to get used to the Swans colours, but their Home ground is close to the City, so saves you driving out to the Northern Suburbs / Palmerston for your home games. Having said that you won't be driving, all you do up North is drink beer.

Haven't won since 99/00 so we are due, but then again so are the Demons!

The Saints (Green and Yellow) have won the most premierships and have the biggest following going around in Darwin. Across the oval from them are the Wanderers (Blue and Yellow) and they are the less successful brother of the Saints. The Buffs are ( Light Blue and Dark Blue) are a nothing team really, only real plus is Wheals, plus their sports bar is a slum, no one wants that. The Tahs (White and Red) have the best club rooms and a great ground down near the shore front to get the much needed fresh breeze in the wet season. The Magpies (Black and White of course) are from Palmeston, enough said, although the Davey's did play there. Tiwi Bombers (Black and Red) are the most entertaining bunch to watch just because of their flare.

So take your pick really, i lived there for 12 years and didn't really follow anyone, just great entertainment. Get Foxtel/Austar and just watch the Dees with the Air-Conditioner on, best way to spend your weekend, GO DEES!

The saints are the collingwood of the NTFL, stay away!

Some demons connections - whelan and Ryan ayers both from buffs...though i think Ryan now has some link with the tahs. Davey - Palmerston. Aussie - tiwi/saints. motlop - wanderes. Jurrah played for nightcliff so almost all have represented.

And I don't think the buffs are a nothing club, they won it only a couple of years back and have produced some great AFL talent Including our own matty whelan and Andrew mcleod.

Loving the idea of Foxtel, but also want to get involved with the local footy.. just in case I'm in Darwin for longer than expected (who knows, we might actually like it up there!).

Still thinking about the Buffs, but like the idea of where the Tahs play. Maybe I'll see what happens in the first round...

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
