And what do you think that will be- he is resigning to take up the role of foorball Director at the MFC? Or Ward now at GWS along with Palmer, Davis, Cornes/maybe both?,Brogan etc..

I don't think Scully's name will be involved-GWS would want a secondary marketing spot for Sculls alone.

These are my thoughts on the subject...what do you think Rhino??? & others.

He's retiring?

Curses! You beat me to it JCB :-)

Something about their facilities and his first coach being named Tom.

Nutjob.

Maybe he's announcing Mark Williams is the next coach of Melbourne, just like Mark Williams announced Dean Bailey's appointment.

What's that...irony? symmetry? irrelevancy?

He forgot to metion his second cousin married a tom, so needs another presser to let the world know he is still alive

Probably what we've known all along and that his IQ is sub-standard and he has been bluffing the media hacks for years

maybe that his mum married her first cousin who turned out to be her brother which explains why he's mentally challenged and about to be commited.

Watching the press conference now. Ward looks unconfortable. Sold his soul and listening to the drivel Sheedy is saying makes it worse. I dont think I can watch Scully in that position.

It's awful isn't it. If it was a straight-talking Guy McKenna type it'd be easier for Ward (and others) but to have to sit there next to 'Sideshow Sheeds' speaking drivel makes it very cringeworthy indeed.

Even Sheeds most bland comments at Essendon always had cringe value

I am glad that they were able to secure this players.

But I'm not happy with Kevin Sheedy been a smart ass about it.

No one believe them 12 months ago. Mr. Sheedy Can you explain that further please?

I know who was saying they were never going to get players with a blank cheque book? Did he say that because the first 5 or so players they targeted said no? We'll see if he is gloating this time next year.

So it was just the Ward conference?

you can see it on AFL.com - it was Ward and Mrs Palmer

you can see it on AFL.com - it was Ward and Mrs Palmer

Did she have her five daughters with her by any chance?

Fair enough

at uni so I couldn't take a look

That was the joke I think :P

I was taking a shot at subtlety...What a jerk I was !

He is going to be the next years Mardi Gras monarch on the back of a Skoda waving a GWS jacket over his head!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
