THE LAST GAME DAY OF 2011

What he should have done, what he shouldnt done - you dont pay free kicks because Garland was dumb - the rule is clear - incorrect disposal in a tackle warrants a free kick - he wasnt tackled - he was knocked off the kick - should not have paid the free - that simple.

+1

The AFL wanted port to win at the first match at the AO. The edudication of this game was disgusting. Blatantly obvious to. You could pick multiple contests of same incidences with different decisions.... I'm so glad I don't have to watch another game this year. This sorta tipifies just where we are at. Where were at is no where near a top 8 side .... ? Marks everywhere for me.

No why doesn't it surprise me that you would want to argue some unimportant remark like that.

Pathetic.

Are you watching the game? Do you actually have anything to add about the play itself; or are you just content to snipe as usual?

Are you saying your remarks are unimportant? Come now.

Can you tell me how your comment about 3AW in anyway reflects the play itself? Double standards.

I'll leave the sniping to you. You're good at it.

My love for this club is almost as strong as the hate right now. Soft, poor skills and far to comfortable with losing. No changes in preseason or change of coach is going to lead to quick fix. A really pathetic effort by a pathetic list of players. Yeah the umpire was atrocious and it was in Ports best interest to win, but we still should have won.

I have never witnessed such pathetic umpiring

They threw it , got tackled and got away with it in front of 30 thousand screaming idiots .

Even Cometti acknowledged they lost control of the game -the crowd took over.

Always tough away with that standard of umpiring.

Howe was robbed 3 times .

The goal that ebert arsed was thrown to him .

We played with good heart today-no reason for everyone here to go bagging the boys.

Absolutely crucified all day .

Brogan and those umpires played their last game today .

The decision to not pay Howe that mark in front of goal was wrong and a massive turning point in the game.

Can anyone explain how it became a ball up? If it's a mark then he gets a kick. If it's not a mark then the ball spilled free and play goes on. Why did the umpire bring it back and insist on a bounce?

2010

8 wins, a draw, percentage of 95.

2011

8 wins, a draw, percentage of 85.

We can rake over the details of two wins being over the Gold Coast, and we can stare grimly at the pattern of losses being huge losses, but surely the simplest summary is;

"Something went wrong in the heart of the team this year."

The goal that ebert arsed was thrown to him .

That was when I knew the game was a joke.

Also the one out of the middle that resulted in a goal was clearly a throw too.

The umpires were a joke!

They threw it , got tackled and got away with it in front of 30 thousand screaming idiots .

What about the minute worth of time on the ump failed to blow during our last three shots at goal??

Because that dumbschmidt blew his whistle and then decided he got it wrong - you could hear him say - the ball came free when he hit the ground so he bounced it.

Schmidt doesnt need a whistle - he should have a little hammer and hit himself on the head making that very noticeable coconut sound every time he wants to make a decision.

Mine was an observation and one made in frustration as I am unable to watch the game and the broadcast is intermittent, your's was just another pathetic attempt to have a go at me which was just stupid. Had you made any other comments prior to that on this thread?

Green's kicked summed up his and our season, so close yet so far. I think a few people need to reflect on the season properly here. At one stage we had to play 11 non best 22 players mid season due to a massive injury list to all of our key players just about. Today we had a pretty crap side in mind you. People seem to overreact on here including myself but i have just realised that reflecting upon key points in the season that lead to our downfall as a club is what killed us. Next year will be good to watch. Bring on the pre-season

The other ump up the ground over ruled it. He said it bounced out..... Few marks if the tear should never have been paid then hey. I hate where this fame is going, sad.

We lost to the bottom team. And our last 2 wins of the year were against Port and GC. How anyone can take something positive out of today is beyond me. We finished last 2 years ago. We shouldn't be losing to the bottom team. Simple.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
