Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Rischitelli were both in melbourne being shown around the VISY Park facilities.

2 days later they decided they didn't want to be a part of the trade and another deal had to be arranged.

I am not sold until I hear an official announcement that Scully is gone.

Should I have stayed at my old workplace on half of what I was offered? NO!! I'm hovering, waiting and as soon as I know my money will be well spent I'll be faxing my pledge through to the club for the 100% Melbourne campaign. Clubs, success and premierships are never built around one individual, even less so when there are individuals who are uncommitted.

I dunno, I still hold some hope.

To be absolutely honest, I think Tom is torn between doing what he knows what is best for him, and what he wants to do.

I'm sure he wants to stay in Melbourne with his family and his best mates, but he also knows that if he removes emotion from the equation, the smart move is to take the money and sew up his future, whatever else happens in his career.

I seriously think he doesn't want to go, but knows the offer is simply too good to refuse.

He doesn't want to go, but is doing his best to give himself an opportunity to warm to the idea of GWS, and that includes visiting the place.

I'm sure many will disagree and ridicule this opinion, but that's how I have read the play.

In the end, if he chooses to go, I think he'll look back with some regret.

If he stays, he'll look back and be glad he realised money isn't everything.

If they've learned anything from our experience (which is doubtful given they're Bomber fans), early next year when their club puts out a press statement stating that he "will be putting off contract negotiations until the end of the year".

I am waiting for the word from the MFC..it is of no benefit to our club if we already know the outcome and stay quiet.

The only real consistency now, and before ( pre AFL ) is to play football at its highest level, and in his own manner to play it well and to the best of his abilities. Thats the What and When, but as to for WHom< im not sure it really matters as much as many might consider. I think in some ways he does actually embody the new age footballer. No particular allegiance other than for whom he plays for on the day. I have no real problem with any of that.

This is the rub isn't it? What effect the increase in frequency this type of dispassionate, money driven tranfer of loyalties is going to have on the average footy fan.

Will it leave too sour a taste and drive some away from the game, or will we adapt to it and continue to support our team no matter what? I've even heard talk of a 'mid-season' type draft where clubs can swap and loan out players Premier League style.

A Brave New World indeed but I think we could well do without these embarrassing theatrics. It demeans everyone involved and is a huge slap in the face to footy fans.

To get an idea of where we might al be in the not too distant future just look sideways to Basketball. Yes some are loyal in their manner ( some quite deeply) to a club. Many and now the most are journeymen in the main. . NRL isnt that much different. EPL is all but totally that bar a few here and there, but THEY are the exceptions not teh norm.

It all didnt get that way overnight. Indeed some change was all but imperceivable of time. The more it got commercial and professional ( note the importance I place by order) the more mercenary and indifferent it all becomes.

Many might be tempted to get narky and disgusted by it all and seek to vent but before you do ask yourself whos actually been dudded here. You, the club, the players, the game ? And then ask by whom.

For mine the culprit is the AFL, and by that those charged with its safekeeping and health. In an almost distasteful rush to man the barricades of a fort not particualry under threat the game is being wedded shotgun like to a model that is diametrically opposite to the values that steep its founding constituents. The heritage that bore this game upheld certain values and these are being cast aside in haste to supposedly galvanise a code against all comers.At what expense ? Who's expense ? I suspect the games 'common' supporter.

Strangely and ironically there is a fork in the road. There will come most likely tow ilk of players from here on in. Those that choose a jumper and those that choose a journey of non specific allegiance. We have even now at our own club examples of both. In my opinion one Tom Scully embodies the latter and Jack Trengove the former. Again the real culprit is the AFL who have soufght to use an almost Black Ops approach to serve its own end. In doing so there is and wiull be collateral damage. Integrity is the first victim. Loyalty will come next. Unfortuntaley for many should you take those two away then Relevance might follow suit..

As far as I'm concerned, the only resolve we have witnessed publicly has been to wait until the end of the season before even considering his options.

Beyond that he has shown total commitment to the club.

No, not at all.. I dont accept the legitiamcy of the idea that there was any real nned to wait at all. That is to say this is a show. If you accept they was no real direction one way or another and we had go through this charade til he made up his mind, then fine.

Hes been resolute.. hes stuck to his plan.. He just didnt bother to share it with the masses.

I like the highlighted sentence so much I'm thinking about making it my signature. Patrick'll have stay for the time being though as his sentiments will never be more relevant than this coming week.

Just re Trengove, one can only wonder had Scully signed with the Dees earlier in the year if things might've turned out very differently with that player. With only one winning GW$ tatts ticket to be apportioned per club, perhaps Jack's manager felt it was in his charge's interest to so emphatically sign with us long-term the way he did. He's a great kid no doubt but he's certainly come out smelling roses because of it. He's the new poster boy and rightly so!

But would he and his parents really been any different than the Scully's had the shoe been on the other foot? Would anyone's? Thoughts to ponder ...

Yeah I think you're right ... some will in turn always wonder whether, two years ago, we didn't correctly do the same

I still think there's some hope of him staying. Yeah, call me naive, whatever.

- First, I think his parents have more say in his life than his manager or any other mentor. That's why they're going - he wants them to get as much of an understanding as to what's up there as himself so that they're all fully informed.

- Second, he (and his family) have put a lot into the club in a very short time. Things like the little touch on Fitz are fantastic.

And finally, I get the feeling that he's aware of the weasel words and dodgy pressers of Sheedy and Gubby as the rest of us, which is why he's said nothing. He got on the front foot to say his piece early in the year. He did get caught out at the airport, but, well, [censored] happens, and he'd be negligent to not go to Sydney to see the offer.

Well it's here at last after months of posts and threads.

I'm going to turn the computer off now and head off to bed. I expect I will wake tomorrow and as I am cycling in to work this sorry saga will all be over, through the headphones I will hear the news that Scully has made his decision or along those lines of a press conference being announced by GWS/MFC.

I'm expecting bad news (my view has changed in the last 5 weeks) and I wont hold my breath expecing the AFL to compensate us appropriatley. But F##k crying about it I'm firmly of the veiw of this being a moment we say never again can we allow something like this happen to us.

Time to move on once the decision is made, get the new coach in and start working towards being a side that makes us all proud and fills us with hope. I'm pretty confident 2011 is all part of a kick in the guts to remind everyone at the club yes debts are cleared, talent is on our list, we have great facilities at AAMI Park but the work to take this club where we believe we can be is far from done.
