You and I have no way of ever knowing what kind of influence Fevola had on other Carlton players. I assume you are judging Fevola on a few incidents that were all over the TV, papers and radio when the guy did what almost every other footballer has done and will do, he just caught in the act.

There is almost no doubt that Fevola is of below average intelligence and has made some bad decisions in his life. But you know what, I've seen him play some unbelievably good football that can help his side win games. That's the part I'm interested in.

By the way, why would we ever take up a trade with an opposition club if the club clearly is happy to move that player on? There must be a reason, eh?

I have also seen him play some unbelievably bad games too where he leans on the goal posts and looks into the crowd. We have had players like that in the past at the MFC who were there because of "media hype" as much as anything else....Jacko, Phil Carmen, Crosswell.....a home to finish out their careers (in the case of Jacko he did have immense talent but would have been a huge handfull!!!).

Brendan had a career at AFL level, but he blew it....and i don't think it would be a great move to have him play at Full Forward for the MFC....I like Jeremy Howe getting games.

He could kick a ton for us one day.

If Fevola was playing for Melbourne next year who gets dropped??

What is "that", then?

If Fevola was a positive influence over this young group we would be all over him.

We should have kept JMac as captain, and we made a huge blunder.

We need less NQR leaders at this club, not more.

Trade for some strong consistent mids with leadership.

Hale would have been great, we went hard for him & so did Hawthorn....Hale & Fevola are 2 very different stories.

Yes Fev is kicking goals in the VFL right now, But would his mindset last seasons in the AFL at high discipline??

This Club needs to build a culture not dissimiliar to the one Hawthorn has evolved...Which was devised in the early 60's by John Kennedy via direct Contact with Norm Smith.

Does Brendan Fevola fit into that culture....I do not think so...We do not just want Bums on seats for the Afternoon Matinee...This is not Clown School.

This is the Melbourne Football Club. I want the elusive 13th Flag.

Hale would have been great, we went hard for him & so did Hawthorn....Hale & Fevola are 2 very different stories. Both mature aged players who offer to fill a temp need. With Gawn & 26 Yr old Martin Way up on expectations, Hale would be slipping towards redundency. Fev is a specialist tall forward, who would compliment the 201 cm Fitzpartick & Watts & Cook, in physical and structural terms. We need some strong temp tall, to offset Opp defences. Hale would be in the way of Fitzpatrick & Gawn.

His culture has been exemplary and his support to other players has been fantastic as he's always been. And loved by fellow teammates where he played. Would he muckup, no-one knows but he doesn't want to and has given up the Grog & the Horses. He's showing discipline and care for himself and his kids & family. There's not much more one can do than that.

As many of you know here I am close friends with Juddy and as such privy to exactly what happened at Carlton. There is much, much more that never made the press regarding Fev. Let me just say that under absolute no circumstances should we consider Fev. Simply he is a cancer who could kill what good is left of our fragile football department.

What Carton would do to have traded Fev rather than Kennedy and kept their a first round pick in the Judd trade. This is the deal that should have been done and will cost Carlton a Premiership or two (a good thing).

With what has gone on at our club this year and with several highly regarded players likely to turn their back on the dees in coming weeks, this is not the time to bring in this sort of one man show fool to our club. I am certain that our football department is also aware of all information and as such Fev will never be part of our plans. The poll on this thread is pointless. Fev will never play for Melbourne and is unlikely to play AFL ever again. This should be the final comment on the issue.

Just playing young blokes in the hope that they will eventually be good enough isn't "good enough". What people fail to realise is that Howe will never kick 100 goals in a season, and it takes a rare talent to even get close to that.

People talk about blokes kicking 3 or 4 goals every week. You know who has averaged 3 or 4 goals every week this year? Franklin maybe, that's about it!

I'm not suggesting that if we signed Fevola it would go perfectly or even work out in the end, but it's just ridiculous that this is the only game on the planet that would have no professional team interested in a player as talented as Fevola.

Draw up your 2012 team & show us your goal to goal line for the next 2 seasons. We need a Temp Tall Key Forward, & really fev is over qualified as we only need a temp to bring in & out for 2012/13. That probably wouldn't be fair to Fev a he needs a permanent Spot.

Show us your team WYL?

Jeremy Howe will play that role in 2012-beyond IMO

Like i said before, i am more interested in who gets dropped if Fevola is played in our side??

Since info regarding Fev was 'sourced' I therefore will take it as accurate. But the above bit doesn't fit with the rest of your post. Is this speculation or posturing on your part? And I hope you're not one of those people who had inside info on Judd coming to Melbourne, or you loose all credibility on all points.

Sorry, but you are looing at the VFL Fevola and not the AFL Fevola....very large difference in terms of workload and discipline...

Anyway if Fevola does play for us...for short term gains at most...would he not once again stall the development of Lucas Cook and to a slightly lesser degree James Howe.

Someone has too be dropped if Fevola plays.

You keep talking as if in terms of wanting a Ten year player and IMO, we have those. But they're still kids who need a bit of cover. Most of them will likely only play up to 10 games Max' Each. So Cook and Fitzy I would hope would get at least 4 games and hopefully 8 - 10. I WOULD NOT play Cook & Fitzy & Watts all together forward next year alongside Howe and Jurrah. Not if we hope to scrape into the 8.

Fev, or whoever we can get would need to be a 2 Year contract. A genuine tall marking, pack busting forward. Maybe that Sydney boy could do it, but not at great expense.

That leaves a big hole forward, or we keep the same structure that struggled this year with Dunn & Jurrah & Bater pinch hitting tall forward. It makes our structure suffer from half back & Up.

Leadership. Development.

Fev would not offer either, he's a boofhead bogan who has already struck out at 2 clubs. It's irrelevant because we wouldn't be stupid enough to take him anyway. If we did we would deserve everything we got when it inevitably went pear-shaped.

While agreeing with you (from Swansea in the UK and somewhat removed from the cerebral heart of all this ) I 's gots to ask:

Was not Martin Pike a boofhead bogan after striking out at Nth Melb and Melbourne before going north and participating in three premierships?

I'm not saying he's learned a single thing -he may well be even more confirmed in his stupidity than he ever was : it's just the principle I'm arguing

You maybe right with needing a big Forward...no arguement there, but just not Fev IMO.

What is the point of having Fev, who may kick 10 Goals in a game, BUT the Entire TEAM score is only about 13 goals....When a Fev on a bad day would seriously damage a club that needs to harden up rather than be a half way house....i can see Fev going to the Bulldogs....they take Band Aids...We did at one stage too, but it doesn't work out.

Fevola is a selfish footballer, was a very good one yes, But his immaturity meant he did it for HIM...We need to be a united club on & off the field after this years fiasco.

I have No problem with that, but he's in our lap. He could be so much more than a temp, Or if he's less than,,, we simply walk him.

But we need that mature tall so we can bring in say a Cook for 5 games, then switch for a TMacdonald or Fitzpatrick, then Switch again. At times we'd have the ruck forward, but so far that hasn't appeared good, a work in progress.

At the same time next year, we'll be doing the same thing in the defence, with TMacdonald & Davis. And Strauss and Blease & Tapscott.

We need some Quality experience desperately, Mid and Forward.

# Edit re the dominant Forward (10 goals)... you don't structure that way so that one dominated. You share, & if they don't they're dropped. They decoy, leadup or spread to create. And the key is to play for one another. Like our backs do.

Well you dont want Fevola then. I cant think of one forward that truly developed at Carlton playing alongside Fevola. Betts has been a better player since he has been gone.

That IMO was the problem, a poor culture and a one forward club.. A big kid in a little cess pool of stagnant water. No one to lead him (that Boy) the right way. He's now growing up slowly.

That's pretty flippant...

I believe the young players that we have will be in a position to win a flag.

I don't think the timeframe will suit a 30 year old body with 12 years of AFL in it.

I believe that we have to fast track the development of a few, or trade in, to establish that forwardline that might deliver a flag.

I also see the presence of a Fevola as a hindrance to that development to win that flag.

Totally agree. If we are going to trade, why wouldn't we trade for list gaps to build towards a flag. With fev it would be for a one (two max) bandaid solution..

How much sharing was done at Casey last saturday?? i am interested to know, as it is a very important feature to consider in this hypothetical.

I am not doubting Fevola can play....it is about all he can do. And yes he does have a good heart, i have seen him with sick kids at the RCH.

What worries me with Fev is this....Our Leadership group is already very thin...it is what we found out this year. Adding Fev to our list next year would certainly strain that weakness even further...

Ben Cousins i would have taken, because on field regardless of his social life, he played at 100% every game...His attitude ONFIELD was never questioned.

His going to Richmond was a big Success, as a player.

But with Fev the attitude has always been too erratic...We do not need senior players like that.

We gotta win a flag. I just don't think Fevola would help too much in getting it.

Did you hear Jeff Kennett on SEN on Saturday?? He was so impressive the way he spoke. I hated him as a Premier, but he has been a great Footy Club President.

He actually spoke passionately about the Demons...he is worried about our long term future, and genuinely wants us "Back up there"

2012 is a very important year for this club. Very Important

You'd have to go back to earlier in the season to see it best, when Cook and Howe and Mcdonald were all playing around the place, with Petterd, Dunn & Bate as well. Fev was great blocking screening playing decoy and generally helping the boys find their confidence.

He was also finding his own fitness and form.

But Fev has been a very sharing player & honest. He has helped the belief of those around him as a leader.

How he would go under the spotlight, with his Ego, no one knows. But when someone is on performance based, a short term contract, with get out clauses, then it's really no different than we have now, except that he's be available.

Nicholson & Evans & our mids and defence were big helps to supply.

Now were at the pointy end, it's win, and not babysit.

Kennett is just a politician who plays the game.. I don't think he has any malice. I'm sure he'd want us to succeed. We gave them some good games through the '90's.

It's strange how baileys demons have gone backward, and fevolas scorpions have gone from strength to strength. Maybe has to do with a phoenix rising instead of angels falling. We are the demons afterall.

Too many silver spooners.

Fevola is one of the best full forwards to play the game in the last decade - I think it is rediculous that people can say he will offer nothing on the 'development' side of things. I think he could teach our young forwards quite a bit about leading, timing etcetera.

Sure he is selfish and arrogant on the field but perhaps this could also be a positive; I wouldnt mind seeing a bit more of this from a couple of our players ie Watts. I'm all for bringing him in on a rookie contract with clauses regarding behaviour.

You're like a bloody dog with a bone.

We aren't getting him, and if you understood what was good for you, you'd be thankful.

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
