Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

For all the competence at the club off-field managing finances over recent years our problems now are deeper than just being short of brass. How stable and competent is our administration really?

Sometimes when things appear to be coming apart at the seams it is just part of a bigger strategy and plan.

Sometimes it's just a cluster.

I guess we'll know in the near future

- Scully has been offered $3 million per year over 5 years to stay at the Demons. In terms of the length of the contract and the amount of it, it is the biggest contract I can recall ever being offered to an MFC player.

IMO we need to be calm right now. A 186 point belting, followed by sacking the coach, then sacking the football operations manager, then sacking the CEO, then sacking the captain, would be amateurish in the extreme.

The current administration has done more from this club, off-field, than any other that I can remember. Let's not forget where we were a few years ago.

We ALL need to get behind the club right now. Continue to turn up to the next 5 games, turn up to the debt demolition function, make positive statements to your non-MFC mates etc - in short, continue to show support.

This is as much a test of the supporter base, as it is of the administration. Let's not lose sight of that.

The administration has not been that good. Stynes, god bless him, lead a board who publicly asked members to dip into their pockets and basically bail the club out. He was successful in this instance because he was Jim Stynes. A man able to unify the club, however he has been ill. The men he entrusted to help build the club however have let him down and the club. Schwab was seemingly sacked from Freemantle for interfering in the football department. His whiteboard stuff was good in the beginning but when he started talking about football matters it looked pathetic. I have no doubt he is a capable CEO, but I can believe that he is interfering in the football department and it is obvious that his relationship with Bailey became untenable. Same can be said with Conelly who did not even show up to the Bailey press conference. When Bailey was asked about the support he received from the administration his answers spoke volumes. Did not even mention them. Heard Don Mclardy on 3AW and he knew nothing and just sounded so incompetent. Was prepared to go on air and didnt even listen to Baileys press conference. His demeanour is in sharp contrast to Garry Lyon, who has been excellent this week and MUST come in and help clean up this mess. The Andrews report being buried is astounishing. 80,000 for what? As a supporter group we have the right to be [censored] off. Jim Stynes kept telling us with certainty that Bailey was going to lead this wonderful era. Facts are for a coach over 80 games he has the worst winning record in history. I know this is testing time for the club but it is the administration, and playing group who have got us to this position not the record 36,937 members.

I can't see how they current administration has done more for the club off-field. One of our major sponers, Kaspersky, was actually discovered by a Melbourne supporter overseas who alerted his boss about the seemingly unsponsored Melbourne which was a perfect fit for the company as they were trying to invest in Austraialia. Struck gold there. The new facilites at AAMI Park was actually Park Gardiners idea, as was Casey. One thing that has annoyed me is that Jim never acknowledged the work Paul Gardiner did for the club. Stynes was needed and has delivered all he can to the club, by essentially getting us members to pay more. His administration has been rubbish. How the hell does Schwab have a one year extention? It is telling that he has not spoken in the media yet, especially for a man who thrives on attention.

Really needed to get that off my chest. CARN DEEESS!!!!!!!

Scully has been offered no such thing. $15m over 5 years. FFS get a grip. If you are going to post on 'facts' then try to get them right. Given that was your first 'fact' I didn't other reading the rest.

Apologies - typo. I would've thought, a wholly obvious typo too (given that everyone knows he was offered $3M over 5 years by the MFC).

Caroline Wilson is a cancer. Do not listen to her. Our problem is that Bailey was too soft and reactive. He cunningly got the players, media and supporters on his side. Once on his side, he convinced the majority of supporters with his " building phase". Unfortunately, you can't hide the truth for long, Bailey was a pathetic failure as a coach, and he had half the club mesmerized for 2 years too long. Now he is gone, we can get on with playing uncompromising, unforgiving football. Good riddance. We are now closer to the objective.

WOW! If it's this simple, then we're gonna kick some arse!

Interesting post Sylvia.

Time for the heat and spotlight to be turned on these two individuals and the part they've played and are playing within the club. The problems that came to a head on Saturday can't just lie with the coach and playing group alone. Not saying all our problems, or any of them, lie with these two alone (or at all)...but everyone's position and performance so far, should be fully scrutinised and reviewed.

I love Jimmy and admire all he's done so far (and wish him all the best in what must be an extremely draining fight), but with his illness now impacting him so cruely, this club clearly lacks leadership/direction at the top, at least from a public perspective (and mine). It also needs transparency in its relationship with members with regard to what happened in the last 6 months or so, and in particular the last week or 2, that resulted in 'Self Destruction' Saturday. This is a must have if many members are to believe whatever the club is going to try and sell us re: the clubs' goals/strategies for next year and beyond.

Lets hope Garry can put his friendship/mates hat aside and get the job done.

We know nothing of the sort. It is speculation. DOn't masquerade it as fact.

For a start, the statement to which you refer was prefaced with my earlier statement: "my thoughts are based on the following facts and stated remarks".

I have seen and heard it stated numerous times that the MFC offered Scully $3M over 5 years. I also regard it as a fact that Tom Scully has not yet agreed to terms with the MFC beyond 2011. This was one of the facts to which I referred under my earlier statement, which conveniently (or perhaps mistakenly) you have overlooked.

I also stated that I did not regard "any of the above points (being facts or stated remarks) as being particularly contentious observations". I don't believe they are.

If you ultimately disagree with the conclusions I have taken away from those facts or stated remarks, then fair enough. Those conclusions are contentious and perhaps wholly wrong.

But to focus on this as the contentious point in my post strikes me as quite misguided.

In this regard, if you want to read further on what is a fact and what is not, I refer you to Rene Descartes' Principles of Philosophy (1644), and in particular part 1 of it in which he makes the statement, "Cogito ergo sum". In short, we could do circle work in this territory for literally ages and still get nowhere.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
