The only people who probably believe it wasn't staged are the robots at the MRP cahrged with disinfecting anything that looks slightly upsetting to the mother of an Auskicker.

Stepping up! Though I don't see how Monfries admitting to staging means he can't be fined or suspended. Pretty useless rule for that to be the case.

I could pick out a few Melbourne players I have seen staging for free kicks this year, so I wouldn't take aim at Monfries too much.

well the afl are saying that he wasn't suspended due to the staging and that contact (to the sacred head) was still there and the staging was incidental

the afl are as weak as p155 on this one and you are right, someone was suspended over this and this confession at least casts doubt on at least part of the elements of the verdict and therefore must make the suspension unsafe

I guess there is a bit of grey area, but there are plenty of obvious examples going unnoticed by the AFL.

Look at world football now, FIFA have never stepped in and tried to eradicate diving, and it has got worse and worse, and now has become a massive blight on the game. Please don't let it get to anywhere near this stage in our game.

all pretty true, but i don't think its a big prob in afl and no worse than its always been

theres really two types

A] exaggeration or demonstrative. player enhances the offence he thinks is there to make umpire notice

B] complete fabrication, just a straight out con.

not much you can/should do about A]

umpires should maybe get more involved with B]. maybe a warning or a free against. for worst examples the mrp could look at and probably fine for first offence

I'm not very happy though at having a specific rule as I don't think it is that big a problem. as i said before the general 'disrepute' rule could always be used for really bad examples. the game is getting sanitised enough
