Proof that I'm not stirring - Shannon Byrnes has been included in the squad that's heading off to the red centre.

As I have said before, he'll be our best # 10 since Cale Morton Big Carl!!!!

Hmm that does not say a lot WJ

And you are still stirring.

I now expect JKH to play the final practice match against the Hawks.

Excellent - most likely in the midfield while he learns the finer points of the crumbing forward game from our most successful player and the only one to have played in multiple AFL premiership teams.

I will not bite.

OK smartie. I challenge you to name another current MFC player to have played in two premierships.

That is so long ago that even Byrnes cannot remember it.

Why did Geelong play him constantly in the Reserves and then send him on his way at the end of 2011?

Easy answer. The guy is way past it.

Superannuation at the MFC and we were too silly to see it.

I see the problem OD.

Memory loss.

You need to eat more bananas. They help against such ailments.

FYI, Byrnes was a member of the 2007 and 2009 premiership teams and wasn't let go by the Cats at the end of 2011. It was the end of 2012 after playing in the Cats' sensational VFL premiership team.

You've also forgotten about players having a second wind. The bloke was the matchwinner in one of our two wins last year - against GWS where he picked up two Brownlow votes. Name five MFC players who polled more than that number in 2013 - T$, Scott Thompson and Brent Moloney don't count.

It's easy to see why he was picked for Friday night's game. He has a wealth of knowledge about the way Geelong plays and could be our secret weapon. I'm predicting 5 goals from him and a Demon upset.

Are they brands of bananas?

So we gave him a two year contract for one good game last year against that great team in GWS who finished last.

Sort of like playing in the VFL where he should be.

He is a has been that everyone knew except the MFC.

Second wind! He would struggle to blow out the candles on his next birthday cake.

I will stay with the superannuation benefit.

Did not help us much last year when we played the cats!

I see the issue here OD

You need to drink more and then you will be a believer.

Some things are easy to believe DF

Others are next to impossible.

He looks bad even after a bottle of red.

You didn't say *AFL* premierships ... :-)

What about those young Asian ladies who want me to correspond with them every time I go onto the Demonland site. What have they got to do with football?

One would suppose a top wig, racetrack identity and Demonland stalwart like yourself might part with the cash to remove the ads. Otherwise, the only way to beat temptation is to yield to it.

I suffer from yellow fever and appear to have contracted it for life.

Biff you do know you can get a shot for that?

I understand that Redleg would like player X served with an infraction notice although there's no suggestion the bloke even touched a peptide.

Only a few more months to go!

Well there is one player who I won't have to watch in the red and blue this year.

Universally, everyone's worst on the game day thread.

I would rather play one short, at least that way there are less turnovers.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
