Yes in 5 more weeks.

I hate to admit this but I am listening to a 70's disco mix while I read Demonland.

Oh.

After following the Dees for 50+ years I thought I had experienced the lowest point.

However this week has proved me wrong.

Am I witnessing the final months of the MFC?

Who knows but I am sitting here this morning contemplating Sunday.

Will I go Yes, do I want to go No.

I will trudge along through duty.

But For one of the few times in the last 50 years my heart is not in it.

Oh please wyl I am freezing my butt off here.

I will be there but the bar looks a good option.

That way my attenance is recorded and I get the best of a bad lot.

Only joking I will be in the stand as usually with confidence until about the 20 minute mark of quarter one.

The concept of being cold right now is very odd. Although the continuous MFC soap opera does send out chills. Are we ever going to get things right??

On occasions like the last week wyl I seriously doubt it

But what choice do I have I can continue with a 50 year ( i.e. half a century ) habit.

Or I can leave, it won't happen while the MFC exists

However my anger is increasing

Whatever happens this week/month...the whole concept of tanking must be erased from any future agendas. It was always going to get murky and dangerous.

I know we shouldn't criticize umpires, but I just watched the last quarter of Saints and Pies and Saints were umpired out of it. Disgraceful really.

Pies get 2 soft frees for first goal and then several holding the ball ones, while Kosi smacked in mouth while marking is ignored and then O'Brien given free for arm chop as Saint running into goal to tie up game. Replay showed no touch at all and even commentators admit it was a shocker. Saints couldn't buy a free and Pies got them for nothing.

Would love to hear Watters presser. 25 frees to 14 in Pies favour as per usual.

See you there redleg

May be my last game for 2012 so I hope we win

Think you mean Jordie Mac.

Cook also played yesterday.

No Fitzpatrick was injured playing for Casey Yesterday.

And Morton today

I was suggesting Redleg that Cook might get a game before the year end because there would be no one else.

Sorry OD I misread your post. You might be right with Cook even though Neeld has said he is not ready. If Watts doesn't come back he may get a game against GWS.

Coach Guy McKenna confirmed on Monday at least five players would be missing the battle with the Giants after sustaining injuries in Sunday's 42-point loss against Melbourne.

Dion Prestia (hamstring), Michael Rischitelli (knee), Karmichael Hunt (shoulder), Zac Smith (ankle) and Luke Russell (shoulder) will all be unavailable.

David Swallow (knee) and Sam Day (foot) are also in huge doubt.

If GWS beat GC next week, then the loser of the GWS v Dees match the following week, assuming Saints beat us, would be 2nd last and get pick 2 in the draft and in our case pick 3 as well.

Is it possible we could t. t. t. t. t. ....... or just lose. I can't even get the word out.

It would put us in a massive position to trade with GWS for both under 17's for say pick 2 or 3 plus a player or two like Moloney and one of Bate/Petterd/Spencer/J. MacDonald/Bail etc. It would also just about guarantee JV as a 2nd round pick.

Just a thought on Injuries

I could just be ducking for cover on the culture research

Could it be that injuries are an outcome of how the game is played YES obviously

BUT

Do teams that receive more protection from the umpires reflected from the awarding of free kicks have a better injury rate than than those receiving less free kicks.

If you play tackle or are tackled poorly does this produce injuries or are there more injuries occurring because of overextension etc.

Perhaps our high injury count is because our younger smaller less developed body types are being smashed by older larger better developed body types. Can improved umpire protection restrict some injuries?

It may require access to obscure statistics (where is stan from stradbroke when you need him)

Hey redleg, could we change this thread title to

I think Sheeds has just showed his hand about how much he wants that first pick. GWS are resting Ward and Greene, their two best players this year, because of slight groin soreness or the onset of mild op symptoms. Patton also out for possible surgery. I won't use the T word because as we all know it is list management.

The real point of my post is that I don't think he will risk losing the first pick on JV and more importantly either will Gubby or SOS. I don't think GC would do it to us either as we have cleared Warnock to them and there may be some more this year from our Queensland contingent.

The certainty of all this is of course to do a deal for an U17 player which will give us JV at 2nd round. All based on us not moving up the ladder of course.

Agree Redleg

Inspite of my recent agreesive stance on winning 2 more games I think you are safe.

We will win the GWS game and that will be it for 2012.

And another glorious chapter in the history of the MFC will draw to a close.

Did anyone go to training yesterday?

Would love to know if Watts looked like he was training at full tilt.

Will he return this week?

And in 2013, with a 20% different list of players, another glorious chapter in the history of the MFC will begin.

I hope Paul Roos doesn't almost fall off the couch at the thought of another Cup. Or in this case the Whitfield Shield game between GWS v GC. Because Paul Roos frowns at nurturing a "losing culture mentality"....

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
