Well the first tragedy of 2012 is now almost 24 hours ago

And there has been an explosion on new threads so I thought I would put my thoughts on this one.

Not sure if it fits but here goes.

I ask myself what has changed in the last 48 years?

For the majority of that time not a lot.

Here we are after game 1 of 2012 with a bad loss to a bottom four side from last year.

A list of average players at best.

A new coaching panel ( how many of those have there been over that 48 year period )

A game plan that I have no idea how it is meant to work, I doubt the players do either.

A depresseing year awaits me.

With the prospect of another rebuild.

"Hang in there fellers we will get there"

is again the cry.

So as I said not a lot has changed.

But there is one big change for me.

I AM ALMOST WORN OUT BY THE MFC

I have had it with the 40 medicore years of the last 48.

I no longer want to wander off to the G with hope in my heart

and then wander home with the same sick in the guts feeling that once again

I am supporting a team of modest performers who tear my guts out.

Once again I will be the butt of jokes from other club supporters.

What has faithful support for 48 years got me! 8 years of joy and 40 years of misery.

I have a solution to save my sanity.

I have put away my new maroon and blue scarf, I have placed my members card at the back of the draw.

I have taken the stickers off my car.

I will return to the MCG when the MFC shows they deserve my support.

Until then ( if I live long enough ) I will be an anonymous citzen in the fabric of Melbourne.

i seem to have hit that same low point

usually i find something to enthuse about which keeps me positive to a point

but the prospect of being back where we were (or probably worse than) when bailey arrived has brought the bile back into my mouth

I can handle a loss but I can’t handle an insipid and gutless performance like I witnessed yesterday and many times over the last ? years.

If the effort by the majority of players on the field, especially the senior players, does not turn around

over the next 6 months this club will be on it’s knees, supporters and sponsors will drop off like flies.

Brad Green, Jarred Rivers, Aaron Davey, Lynden Dunn, Colin Sylvia and Brent Moloney will be able to

put their hands up and say ‘I did my part in bringing the Melbourne football club down. I was there for

the fame, the money, the personal glory and winning a premiership was secondary.

I believe there is an empty display case at the club for the 13th cup. Mark Neeld should take every player

down to look at that empty space, look them in the eye and say do you want to be a part of filling this space?

Get some footballers at the club who give a damn.

Rather than one’s trying to chat up some sheila in the stands when he should be watching and supporting his team mates out on the ground.
