The Trade Thread

I think it's too early to discuss.

newton = might get a potato

bundle davey, bate, dunn, newton together in a package deal for GWS for whatever we can get in return

This.

Win win for both clubs

a kebab with the lot would be fair

Hardly. Clubs wont buy showbags of other clubs NQRs.

they could get the whole bunch for 1 top 20 pick I reckon. Win for us and they get some cheap list fillers to help them pay for a few marquee types. Like I said, win win

Posted this in another thread: Unless Davey shows something during the rest of the year I agree we should at least consider trading him. It could be a win-win situation if we can secure either a very high draft pick or a promising youngster from a club that is close to a premiership and has a stronger midfielder where Davey is not the first to be tagged. I would rather see a young guy get a chance after today's performance

Its just a win for us. They dont need stocking fillers for Xmas. Clubs arent that dumb.

Perhaps GWS would poach Davey off us?

Honestly, he's worth a hell of a lot to us and is just in some really poor form at the moment, but Nobody has enough credits in the bank to survive in the senior side after a game like that. Obviously we can't and won't trade him, but he has to be dropped.

Fire away....

Aweful post trade bait is an off season distraction. You don't know what injuries or game plans these players have to enjure.

Put them on the Table asap and frig the contracts. Possible destinations.

Newton - any VFL club other than Casey

Bate - could Carlton get fooled again?

Davey - GWS will need a mentor for any brothers on the list

Green - a year ahead of Robbo & JMc...retire gracefully...or Carlton...maybe they won't get fooled again

Morton - Shepparton United et al

Haha, funny thread, like ANY AFL/VFL/SANFL/AusKick team would want any of the players we don't...

Good times

Well they are playing out of Rooty Hill, not going so well for them so far ;) !!!

Probably wouldn't be any interest in any of these, but on the table:

- Bate

- Dunn

- MacDonald

- Newton

- Warnock

Happily delist any left over after trade week.

You'll be lucky to get pick 83 for those 5 combined.

Yeah, that was more like my "time-to-move-on" list.

Trade-wise, I think we'd need to consider offers for most players, but it would have to be a good deal.

Realistically, we'll need to trade a good player at some stage, to improve the list when we're in contention.

Much like Geelong sending us Moloney, to get Ottens.

Some are untouchables, but if I'm brutal about it, right now I'd consider trades for:

- Jetta

- Bennell

- Maric

- Rivers

- Moloney

- Fitzpatrick

- Morton (extremely hesitant)

Jetta, Bennell and Maric have no currency and are still in the infancy of their careers. They won't net you a good player, and the pick you'll get for them is unlikely to bring you a better player.

Rivers has a lot more value at Melbourne than externally. Won't go anywhere.

Moloney is just an idiotic suggestion. He is so important to our midfield, he is one of our only leaders and he will make the lives of Scully, Gysberts, McKenzie and Trengove much easier.

Fitzpatrick will get a lot of "who the hell is that" from opposition teams. Is currently worth less than Juice.

Morton is the only player on that list with real currency and who would net us a good return, but IMO won't get us anything near the value of his development potential. I'd be very very careful and wouldn't dream of trading him for anything less than a top 10 pick or a really good developing KPF.

I was being brutal.

I think you underestimate how other clubs would view our young players.

They also have recruiters that would have followed some of our kids & rated them highly, just like we did with Jack Redden even though we didnt get to pick him, as an example.

Moloney has serious value and I think we could afford to trade him.

It would hurt, but it's about the trade off of short term pain for long term gain.

Morton will be a seriously damaging player and I think we still wouldnt get enough for him now.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

The superstar Demon midfielder made a successful return to the fold after his devastating injury last year and the subsequent fallout from the treatment he received, during which time he sought to depart the club. Petracca's professionalism and strong play, both in the midfield and up forward, were outstanding and resulted in him being runner-up in the club's best and fairest count. However, early this week, the club's new CEO, Paul Guerra, confirmed that the under-contract Petracca has again requested a trade, adding that he would only be allowed to leave for a “quality offer that turns our head". No doubt some Demon heads are already spinning.
