My 3 word player analysis V The Poos

Luck? Here's what I remember from the first quarter:

In one of the first plays Newton was involved in he came out and applied a decent bump on a North player, only for Dunn to slide in and give away a free kick. That seemed unlucky.

Newton took three marks within scoring range where he lead out strongly at the footy, kicking 2.1. I guess you could say the 50m penalty was lucky, but he earned the initial mark and also showed aggression at the North guy who took a jab at him.

Newton also made a great chase and tackle on a North defender streaming out of our forward line which earned him a free kick, and with advantage called Watts was able to kick a goal.

I think he had about 5 marks and 7 disposals at quarter time so I wouldn't be surprised if he had some more early 'luck' that I'm forgetting.

Newton looked sensational in that first quarter. He showed enough to suggest he might make it, yet! After quarter time the entire team fell apart, so it was hardly surprising that Newton would be part of that. But, when the team was performing well, he was a major part of it. I'd persist with him for another week or two. Would be great if he could finally become that tall, high marking forward we so desperately need.

ROFL @ Joeboys assessment on Wonna. "fat and ineffective" Journalism gold.

Dunn was a disgrace. I thought every time he went near it he did the wrong thing. He is smarter than that.

Green is not James McDonald. I am hoping he can be by the seasons end.

Martin is better than we give him credit for. He was asked to shoulder the ruck burden, and tried his hardest all game.

With all of the injuries stacking up, it is fair to assume we are not going to be the competitive side we should be over the next few weeks. Is it time to start putting games into Cook/Howe/Blease/Strauss/Gawn and whichever rookies get promoted?

Add Bail and Garlo to the injury list, and Dunn will get a week for his brain fade on the head high slide. 3 spots up for grabs next week without dropping under-performers.

Is he? I see Dunn do stupid things every week on the field. I am sick of it. He can go back to the VFL and stay there as far as I am concerned.

Green - regularly turned over

Warnock - solid all game

Jones - aggressive and effective

Bartram - taught a lesson

Watts - ineffective and lethargic

Gysberts - prolific but ineffective

Bennell - nothing to commend

Frawley - proactive but loose

Sylvia - played with class

Dunn - not a defender

Petterd - had no influence

Maric - 10 minute performance

Garland - injury influenced output

Moloney - tried but quiet

Jurrah - 10 minute performance

Wonaemirri - fat and ineffective

Martin - courageous but limited

Tapscott - was surprisingly quiet

Davey - great from defence

Jetta - failed his chance

Bail - effective until injury

Newton - gave some hope

Davey great from defence Surely your joking!

he is fast becoming a turnover expert with his short kicks across field opening up the play for the opposition

He is easily beaten by a close tag

Best game i have seen from newton should have stayed

at full forwardWhen will the coach realise Green to now too slow to play on the winghe was clearly beaten by faster players all day If he must play leave him at half forward

Maric looked dangerous all day

Davey was horrible. Two massive turnovers that cost important goals. Picks up easy kicks and is to soft and never works hard enough. Will sulk it when tagged. His man who I don't even know his name smashed him because Davey would never man up!

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
