On Morton's disposal, I read last year about Maric that he was this elite kick at junior level and when he came to the club they worked hard on his technique to enable him to kick further. Until this year, the games I had seen Maric play his kicking was anywhere but elite. This year however his foot disposal is great he is kicking low, hard and hitting targets. I wonder if this is a result of the work he did or has he reverted back to his natural action. On Morton, I wonder if he is in the same boat, drafted the same year, when drafted he was meant to be an elite kick, he is over 45m-55m but anything shorter than that he can't hit a target.

Condescension aside, Cale has a very good footy mind as he showed in his first two seasons. He knew where to go to get the footy, where to kick it, and where to run.

He can be soft in contests and he can shortstep to avoid them, but he can kick on both feet and has demonstrated his ability over his short career.

No golden tickets but you require time to reach match fitness and decent form.

Frawley is the same.

Finger injury is hardly going to have a huge impact on loss of fitness etc.

So far for mine morton has shown me that he has a big tank and can run to the right spots, offensively, defensively perhaps less so.

Not much of a wrap for his kicking skills, far from elite, can kick left and right, often misses the target, they dont seem to spin to well either.

From memory banged a few out of bounds against WCE as well.

And even though stmj disagrees, I believe Cale has those skills.

And I don't mean 'frontrunning wingman' in the traditional sense; I see him playing wing and linking through the middle but also taking marks at both ends of the ground and providing a decent target on occasion.

I think it also has to be looked at the different sort of style of football used in VFL. VFL is very congested, more scrappy kind of games. This can hamper players like Morton, Watts and even Blease where as guys like Valenti for instance can dominate. I spoke to former rookie Danny Hughes the other day. he is playing in the WAFL and has said the openess and space in the WAFL is so different to the VFL and believed it would help a lot the guys that play for FREO and West Coast. This is where Morton showed his class over there. Having said that Casey is one of the better grounds going around, well was when I was there last which was a few years ago.

Fair enough then, maybe it's better to use the term "Swingman" (seeing as footy is borrowing from Basketball alot these days), a guy who can cover ground and be kind of a skilled utility player.

Something needs to happen with Cale though, whether something needs to "click" or he's just down on confidence, either way his time to stand up has definitely come.

The kid is 18yo has missed last year with an ACL. He has struggled at Casey 1sts. And even at 208cm, if he does not know how to position his body, he will be useless.
