Casey Scorpions v Bendigo Bombers

Bit naive about the advantages of a good pre-season, stmj.

And Cale has very good skills, other areas need work.

We good now, champ?

Are you suggesting Cale didn't have a pre-season because he had a finger injury?

He didn't have match practice but he did everything else.

Please drop the injury bulls*^t rpfc. How does not having 'the greatest pre season' inhibet a player's abiltiy

to hit a target, chase, make tackles stick, block for team mates etc?

Frontrunners that finish off the "hard stuff" generally have outstanding foot skills. Clueless.

this gives me the s--ts also

bloke misses a few weeks in February and he has a golden ticket to do nothing for the whole year

it's a game of footy and they're fit enough to be out there, no excuses

On Morton's disposal, I read last year about Maric that he was this elite kick at junior level and when he came to the club they worked hard on his technique to enable him to kick further. Until this year, the games I had seen Maric play his kicking was anywhere but elite. This year however his foot disposal is great he is kicking low, hard and hitting targets. I wonder if this is a result of the work he did or has he reverted back to his natural action. On Morton, I wonder if he is in the same boat, drafted the same year, when drafted he was meant to be an elite kick, he is over 45m-55m but anything shorter than that he can't hit a target.

strongly put but spot on

Not at all naive. I am well aware of the benifets a good pre season can have on a player.

I am talking basics of football rpfc. Do I need yet again to spell them out for you?

Do you really blieve Cale's kicking skills for an outside player are at an AFL standard?

What skills does Cale currently possess? Football specific skills?

Wowsa. I'm really getting an insight into how much football knowledge you actually have rpfc. Not

just your constant condescending dribble.

Where is this coming from?

Did I tear an argument of yours apart in the past or something?

Grow up.

Condescension aside, Cale has a very good footy mind as he showed in his first two seasons. He knew where to go to get the footy, where to kick it, and where to run.

He can be soft in contests and he can shortstep to avoid them, but he can kick on both feet and has demonstrated his ability over his short career.

No golden tickets but you require time to reach match fitness and decent form.

Frawley is the same.

Finger injury is hardly going to have a huge impact on loss of fitness etc.

So far for mine morton has shown me that he has a big tank and can run to the right spots, offensively, defensively perhaps less so.

Not much of a wrap for his kicking skills, far from elite, can kick left and right, often misses the target, they dont seem to spin to well either.

From memory banged a few out of bounds against WCE as well.

+ 1

Cale has no excuses and should be ripping apart VFL games.

Didn't have the greatest pre season with his injury but he is not in form and needs to find a harder edge.

But I still see him as a future star wingman.

Still need frontrunners to finish off the hard stuff...

How has this been missed?

"Frontrunners"??!! Are you serious? "Finish off the hard stuff"??!! Those days are LONG over rpfc, every player is required to do the hard stuff, every player is expected to apply pressure, there is no longer a place for a "frontrunner". I haven't given up on young Cale, but geez I hope he doesn't think the same as you and thinks he can be a frontrunning wingman who finishes off the hard stuff...

He will need to develop a harder edge.

I have already said that.

The game today, though, still asks alot of a players' skills.

And even though stmj disagrees, I believe Cale has those skills.

And I don't mean 'frontrunning wingman' in the traditional sense; I see him playing wing and linking through the middle but also taking marks at both ends of the ground and providing a decent target on occasion.

I think it also has to be looked at the different sort of style of football used in VFL. VFL is very congested, more scrappy kind of games. This can hamper players like Morton, Watts and even Blease where as guys like Valenti for instance can dominate. I spoke to former rookie Danny Hughes the other day. he is playing in the WAFL and has said the openess and space in the WAFL is so different to the VFL and believed it would help a lot the guys that play for FREO and West Coast. This is where Morton showed his class over there. Having said that Casey is one of the better grounds going around, well was when I was there last which was a few years ago.

Didak, Del Santo, Betts, Milne, Davey, Cooney come to mind as front runners.....

And none of those players apply pressure?

ps- Cooney, Davey, and Del Santo are frontrunners? Really?!

It's more than a discussion for you obviously...

Discussion is always healthier when you show respect.

You say Cale Morton hasn't shown much ability, I disagreed.

Why the animous animus?

tsk

No it's not at all.

Just playing your game.

Opinions, opinions.

Heck, I hope the kid comes good. I'm just not seeing the improvement I want to see.

Fair enough then, maybe it's better to use the term "Swingman" (seeing as footy is borrowing from Basketball alot these days), a guy who can cover ground and be kind of a skilled utility player.

Something needs to happen with Cale though, whether something needs to "click" or he's just down on confidence, either way his time to stand up has definitely come.

tsk

It's one of those curious language things - animus becomes animosity.

English - it's tough.

Specialist??? Outstanding tap ruckman??

The kid is 18yo has missed last year with an ACL. He has struggled at Casey 1sts. And even at 208cm, if he does not know how to position his body, he will be useless.

Anyone remember Peter Street at 210 cm??

Reasonable points you make. Who knows how he would go- he would be up against McEvoy whom is STRONG. I'd give the 19 year old, not 18 a go-Gawn, Max 208cms 107 kls 30.12.91 birthdate. I hope I don't get suspended by proving your wrong.

howe in for dunn and mckenzie in for bail :D

Good call!

Bate in for Jetta!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
