But would West Coast, Port and Brisbane fans show up to see us smash their teams if we are doing that well?

Dees fans alone won't raise the attendance.

Posted

Jeez, people.

E25 is saying that our games against the interstate teams and the game at ES will lower our average home attendances.

It will, he isn't saying that we will have less people supporting us, he is just saying that we had home games this year against high drawing Vic teams and now we have less - therfore our ave. attendance falls.

Read between the lines. Or the actual lines.

Fancy a wager?

Our attendances will go down in 2011...

I'll take a wager with you. If I'm right you can't post for 3 months.

I tend to agree, we have hype around our club all we need is to get a run of wins early, which the draw has given us every chance to do, and more people will come to watch our games. Winning is the key if we start well we will have higher attandance figures for 2011, if we start slow we will have no chance. Our off field hype has kept the interest in the club over the past 2 years, next year the on field performance needs to continue to drive the club forward

I was thinking a couple of Demon Heartland packages (since I'll buy some of them anyway).

And I'll throw in the posting bit for you too.

It's a sure thing - our average home game attendances will fall.

Not necessarily by a lot, but they won't increase.

Obviously this figure does not include finals matches.

Done. I'm in.

2 demon heartland and some peace will do fine. Will you be ok not posting after we make the finals. I don't want to be mean.

It's not a concern for me.

I post a lot more than I should in the off-season anyway.

Interesting wager this.

So we have 4 home games against Victorian clubs next year as opposed to 6 this year.

IN: Carlton, Gold Coast, Fremantle

OUT: Essendon, Western Bulldogs, North Melbourne

________________________________________________

To do a quick crude analysis, lets say Carlton/Essendon cancel out. We then rely on our improved Demon supporters and neutrals to cover the loss of home games to the Dogs & North to 2 of the biggest non entities in the league wrt to club brand. By round 23 I'm sure the novelty of GC would have worn off, by then they may be simply battlers (who knows). Freo is a corporate nightmare for any club except the Pies.

Yes, we should get more followers on the expectation of natural improvement and a competitive fixture and perhaps a few more neutrals but I doubt it will cover the drop off of opposition Victorian supporters. Will be interesting though.

I doubt our increase in FTA coverage will make any notable difference either but it will be interesting to see how our average figure pans out. No doubt the home games against Carlton, Collingwood, hawthorn and Richmond will be corkers in any case.

Filter it to only home games during the h&a season and we are less than 2,000 per game from Geelong who were 4th best in the league.

Don't forget to remember the different circumstances when comparing figures. Melbourne population much less. All games on Saturday afternoon so no multi weekend attendances, All young guys supported by their families played on Saturday afternoon. There was not the advertising push as players played for a song and a few kicks, so clubs din't need to push for finacncial success in the same way.

Bump:

A little debate from last year that can now be put to bed regarding our home attendances for 2011.

2011 Average Home Attendance: 31046

2010 Average Home Attendance: 37379

As expected our draw made a negative impact here but it is a pretty significant drop. Obviously our year in general exacerbated this to some degree.

Posted

To be honest that is not a bad return for a club with poor form and 7 home games against interstate clubs including a 7,000 attended game in the NT.

Posted

We played Collingwood twice in 2010 and once in 2011.

Rhino this has no baring on our home attendance figure comparison.

Read my post earlier in the thread and you'll see that I explained why (along with others) why such a drop in home attendances would occur.

We had an awful fixture, crowd wise.

In terms of 2010 ladder finishes, we had the easiest draw in the league. But for marketing and crowd-pulling purposes, our fixture was always a crock. Eagles at Etihad? Adelaide, Freo, Brisbane all at the G.
