Played the first two games of the year and wasn’t sighted afterwards. Was given the kick-in duties and showed he had a bit to learn. Went back to Casey before hurting his shoulder. Has a lot of competition for spots across half-back - Luke Holmesby melbournefc

This is the year to show whether he has got what it takes. With Cheney shafted it is up to James now- make or break year no doubt.

Yikes! This kid scares me and not in a good way.

I'm on record as saying that I don't think he will make it but I really hope he does. We need some skills coming out of the back line.

He has a gorgeous kick on him, but nothing else about his game stands out at this stage.

Has a lot of work to do & has looked soft early on.

Hopefully he'll be able to overcome this.

Cheney shafted?? You're kidding. Cheney was not going to get a regular gig at MFC being about 2 or 3 in rank to get a defensive role in the 22. We did him a favour trading him and he has a chance with his future. Had we not done so we would have really shafted him by playing him at Casey.

Hardly worth stating that because I think the consensus is very much that way unless he turns it around.

Hold some hope as he was a relatively high pick in a strong draft. It's a bigger step from school footy than the TAC Cup,(Ithink he only played school footy) not to mention he missed the bulk of his first season with a shoulder reco. Will probably get 2 more years to show whether he's upto it or not. Let's hope so as some talent was picked after him.

Im pretty sure he played for Vic Metro in the 08 carnival. Like you i hold some hope that he will become a decent player as he has enough going for him if he can improve on the weaknesses in his game and stay injury free for a season.

So if I have something on my mind that you think may be the consensus I should not type it? Rightyo.....

I get the feeling he was drafted because he was a good athlete with a lethal kick. I stand to be corrected, but I thought I read somewhere that he was not a prolific possession gatherer in junior footy.

Fingers crossed he can improve enough to contribute to a winning side.

I just want everyone to acknowledge that I'm on record as saying that I don't think tomorrow will be friday. But I hope it is.

You know, so when I'm right everyone can shower me with adulation.

That's all.

Think... Jayden Pitt in this year's draft.

That is Strauss, albeit with a lighter frame.

When you say 'that is all' it's a real pity you have to follow it up with the very next post. I'm guessing by the number of posts, their lack of either length or substance that you are a goldfish with the attention span of around 3 seconds.

E25 = Dory ? :blink:;)

Pretty much.

One post was aimed at poking fun at another poster, another was a thought that popped into my head.

Separate ideas.

And, yeah, it's all just short term bursts of amusement for me.

It's not like this is some carefully considered high art form - there's too much stupidity involved for that.

Just about!

Sometimes I have to stop and think "have I already posted in this thread & am I about to contradict myself..?"

Many of us wish you would stop and think more often

Yawn.

You were making a statement for the record which was hardly notable considering another 57 posters have said for the past few months.

I would not make a big point of it. It was hardly out of left field.

You have to get the pill before you can kick it!!!

Definitely "unproven" in my book.

I still feel that Cheney was shafted- this is my opinion. And I wish James the best.

Shafted ? In what way ..?

What you are trying to say is that we were, in effect, shafted by losing him.

I think that's what you're saying.

And it's wrong.

But who the hell can tell what you're on about?

You'd know- it takes one to know one.

Why do you think Cheney was "shafted" ? Can you support this ?

Or am I talking to a brick wall !

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
