Packers played very well and looked a lot more structured against the run. Webb was a disaster. Rodgers is just so damn good and our only chance was to get good field position and pressure the QB but we couldn't get it done. I'm still happy. To watch AP all year was awesome.

I think the packers look so much stronger with healthy receivers all over the field. Maybe another wildcard to superbowl appearance?

It's fair to say purple pride has gone into meltdown. On one side is the " I told you Webb and Ponder are no good" and the other side is "Ponder is a [censored]".

Lol ... they're quite happy on the Packers site as can be well imagined . Somebody started a thread there last week entitled "What if we lose?" . It's fair to say the OP will cop some stick later on.

Anyway, probably have to go into work tomorrow (though option A is tempting) but will catch up with the early game at some stage . Reckon the Ravens and Redskins might get up but would like the Colts to win .

The 49ers / Packers game next week will be a beauty . The 49ers crew on this thread may be out in force . I might need 'Bon Scott' and the 'life' member back here to help me out !

Monday, Jan. 7 (wild card round) both games on ESPN & OneHD

5:00am — Indianapolis at Baltimore

8:30am — Seattle at Washington

Disappointed the vikes didn't put up a better show

i know going in with a green qb was bad and it turned out a nightmare. i think webb wrote his own obituary

but i still thought the vikes were down in most departments

congrats though to the cheese heads. they have had the wood over the vikes these last 3 years with vikes only winning one game by 4 points to 6 at 99 points.

Vikes were very flat and were dominated on all areas but after 3 wins last year I'll take a one and out in the playoffs.

I'll take the packers next week I don't think the 49ers defense which was outstanding at the start of the year can hold off Rodgers and the improved running game the packers have.

will be interesting without the home ground advantage and big change in temp

Biggest worry is the 49ers team - their best is very very good .

Home field and weather aren't big factors in this instance .

congrats though to the cheese heads.

Us Packer fans are allowed to call ourselves cheeseheads but it's viewed as an insult if opposition fans call Packer fans cheeseheads . ^_^

Yeah, what is it ? 13 times World Champions (apparently the Yanks have their own version of the 'World')

Nice to see you on the thread 'dc' . Are you gonna stick around ? You're not concerned about being labelled one of those 'Other thread' people ?

Btw, my guess is there are a lot of 'landers that are NFL fans . Even old dee 'Came out' and admitted to being a Bears fan ...

Maybe an NFL 'Poll' will bring more out ?

spent quite a bit of time there in a previous life (even got over to wisconsin)

was there when twins won their 2nd last world series....the whole state just stopped during game 7

i still keep in email touch with a couple of old codgers and they will be hurting today

metrodome to be torn down soon

The sport has been a slow burn for me . Last 5 years the interest has peaked . Helps when you can chat about the NFL to friends and acquaintances . I've known a few who have 'tried' to like it but it just hasn't grabbed them . It's your 'classic' acquired taste .

I have showed everyone I know the sport. As you say some catch on and some can't get past the helmets and pads or the stop start aspect. I enjoy the tactical side of the game more then anything. You would know following a team in such a tough division makes it very interesting in other games as well.

Now that was funny ...good work 'cfh'

I could see every Packers fan in their loungeroom saying Rodgers should be the MVP for the next 5-7 years. The Jets version is spot on as well. www.stufffanssay.com.

Bookmarked ! Thanks ... sport and humour is always a good mix ...

I think it was 5 - 17 years re the Rodgers 'rant' - either way it works ...

How good would it be if we could get old dee over here as a Bears fan ? On a whole bunch of levels ! I'm working on getting a Detroit fan over here as well . Could we all remain civil to each other ?

Yeah your right it was 5-17 years. Absolute pisser.

The whole NFC north acting civil? We could win a Nobel peace prize if that happens. I think it's great to have as many fans as possible on here. It peaks my interest a bit more and we all know we are Melbourne fans so we can't eat our own. The only team I have a little tiny dislike for is the Patriots. Not against Brady I love his story of being drafted dead last and turning into a Hall of Famer. It's more Belichick. He gets a lot of credit for a offense that he doesn't have a huge amount of control over and his famous defense has never been that great. But they aren't Collingwood in my eyes and you have to respect a team with so many rings so it could just be envy on my behalf.

The people I know who follow the sport all seem to have a dislike of the Giants , Patriots and the Cowboys (not in any particular order) However....I know someone who is a Pats fan and Brady is one of the all time best players . It's hard to dislike someone like Tom Coughlin and Eli is a bit unfairly maligned . So it's down to Dallas for me but it's not with any great intent . I can't hate Tony Romo no matter how many times he implodes !

Like you, nothing will ever come close to my strong dislike of a number of AFL clubs (headed by the Pies and Bombers) Maybe England in the cricket ? Reckon all my hate is taken up by footy - a man's only got so much hate ! (is that a line in a movie?)

Watched the Seahawks-Skins game today, was really looking forward to this matchup.

Clearly once RG3 went down the first time it was a fait accompli that he wouldnt see out the game, which is

a shame as it robbed us of what looked like an enthralling contest.

Marshawn Lynch activated 'beast mode' and got his game going, Wilson made a few nice scrambling reads

and the Seahawks regained a lot of that momentum they'd carried the last month or two.

So Wilson now is the last remaining rookie QB, Ive been saying it for a month or so now that I think he should

be the Rookie of the Year and today definitely underlines it, for a guy of his relatively small size he has a big

presence on the field.

Its a tough ask next week to front upto the Falcons, Seattle have a good secondary, but will be coming up against

Julio Jones and Roddy White an co. Falcons have been a bit hot and cold of late, so I think it will be a close one.

Didnt catch the earlier game, too early for me, but the veteran Ravens getting the job done over a rather green

Indi team is upon reflection not a huge surprise. Ray Lewis gets one more 'final' shot at it, and if the oft-feared

Ravens defence can hit top form they're capable of continuing deeper into the playoffs, I like their chances against

Denver next week. I havent looked it up, but have the Broncos beaten anyone of substance in their current form streak?

I am starting to agree with you about Wilson being the ROTY. He was the third string QB at training camp and beat out a QB on a fair bit of coin to get the gig. Credit to Wilson and Carroll for that. Who knows what the Falcons will produce. There is some pressure on them to perform in playoffs. I'll back Seattle. I saw a bit of the early game due to my better half taking my keys to work with her. Flacco was throwing bombs nearly every play when I was watching. Denver came from a crud of a division to get that record but it's Peyton in the playoffs.

Webb can run too. His highlights are full of running TD's let's see if he can throw

Unfortunately no he could not at all. They looked good in the first drive but just couldn't get going from that point on.

After seeing RG and the Skins go out today I always struggle to understand why they give so little chance for the back up qb's to work with the first team if they know the number 1 QB is struggling. I know the game is so technical and the number 1 QB needs all the reps but it is such a big gap when the main guy goes down.

Felt Shanahan should have pulled RG3 from the game earlier . He was clearly hampered and could hardly run . His throws were off target as well and a knee injury can have an effect on your whole game . They had Cousins ready to go and should have bitten the bullet . Seattle were good though - coming from 14 points down . Wilson and Lynch were very good . Atlanta awaits and you'd have to give the Seahawks a real chance .

Been a terrific year for the Skins and they should be proud of their efforts - they won a tough division and kept the Giants and Dallas out of the playoffs .

Ravens were too good as well . Indi picked up a decent amount of yards but just couldn't score . No touchdowns says it all . The Ravens defence held firm and it will certainly be an interesting match-up against Denver next week . Denver defeated the Ravens in Baltimore 3 weeks ago (34-17) so they'd have to be reasonably firm favourites .

Luck couldn't do what he's done a lot this year - get another 4th quarter comeback win - tough to do in Baltimore . He's had a top year though and may still get ROTY (though if Wilson gets Seattle over the line next week it's all his)

Reckon Peyton will get it done 'cfh' . That home field advantage at altitude cannot be underestimated . I'm with you on the Seahawks - just ! If they win they'll be at San Francisco or Green Bay . Are they the 'Hot' team ?

It was totally gutsy the way RG3 kept going but I couldn't believe how much he was hobbling out there today .

I watched all 4 games as usual, but while I enjoyed them, Not one team really stood out as being in control for the full 4 quarters, Ravens probably the closest.

These teams I think will struggle against the rested teams.....

I have no idea who I want to win between the packers and niners..... I hate them both :)

I've got a mate of a mate who puts on a day at his place every year . It's 12 to 15 blokes who catch up once a year - it's like a reunion of strangers ! It's hard not to get 'caught up' so I don't always 'front up'

Another 'Niners' fan ! Where are all the Packer fans ? C'mon, I will need help next Sunday ...

They're all gonna call me 'cheesehead' . I can see it ! ^_^

Seriously bub, you've gotta get back into the sport - with the coverage we get and with 6-7 games being shown live (as well as being in HD) you're missing out . It's a great sport .

Macca .. I like it. I live in a house with three women I'm lucky to stay sane enough to catch a game of footy on the box ( if I haven't gone to see it, and to be honest that's not as often as my membership affords ) lol

None are particular lovers of any sport ...other than the Filth... Mea culpa mea culpa.

I take what I can :) I sneak a little if I'm home doing paperwork...shh don't tell .

I tend to watch a lot of the games on delay during the season BB - you can save a stack of time breezing through the endless breaks in play . One game usually takes about 1 - 2 hours depending on whether you want to listen to the commentary between the plays . Otherwise you need a Monday off or loads of time available or be prepared to wake at 3am or 5am . It takes a fair bit of planning to follow the sport really .

The Niners have been on the tele a lot this season and if you want to watch the games you might have to plan a bit more of that 'paperwork' ^_^ Where there's a will there's a way .

My Packers take on your 49ers next Sunday at noon . It should be the game of the divisional round . If San Francisco are at their best it's gonna be tough going for the Pack . Really looking forward to it .

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week.
