Play every game...

Obviously one of the keys to a successful season is to have your better players on the park for the majority of the games. Collingwood had six players play all 26 games this year - Jolly, O'Brien, Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas and Toovey.

Got me thinking about who I'd most like to see play all games for the Dees in 2011. If I could nominate 6 players to plau every game in 2011 I would pick:

Aaron Davey - all things being even, I think Davey is our best player. He is our playmaker, his disposal and speed is crucial to our chances.

Mark Jamar - the Russian needs to pick up where he left off at the end of 2010. Continue to give us first use and with a bit of support, hopefully sneak forward for a few goals.

Brent Moloney - along with Davey and Jamar, Beamer needs to control our midfield. Get the contested ball out to Davey & Co. Leadership will be important.

James Frawley - good teams have a settled defence and Chip is our key. Plays 22 games where he beats the opposition's best forward and we go a long way.

Jack Grimes - forget sometimes that Grimsey has only played 26 games. Shown so much so far but in his fourth year needs a full season to truley cement his place as one of our core. More time in the midfield for mine.

Liam Jurrah - Little different to the others in that he isn't a core player...yet. LJ has booted 41 goals from his 17 games so far. I just can't wait to see how many he'd kick from a full season.

Wondering what other people think? Are there other players that you'd nominate to play every game?

Morton, Grimes, Garland - These three have been injured and are hugely important players going forward. Need games pumped into them.

Frawley - Probably our most important player.

Watts - Also needs as much game time as possible.

Watts - He needs the games

Morton - If he's played 22 games it shows he's most likely got a position and played good footy. It's not fair to be concerned about Morton, but I think its fair to say if he's going to be a very good player he'd need a strong year next year

Blease - I was going to go Davey here, and for the teams purposes Davey is more important, but if we are going to make it as a really top team we need more Davey's. Blease is our best chance of doing that. Maybe he doesn't need 22 games at AFL level, but 22 games with some being at AFL level and strong improvement would be very nice.

Sylvia - To show he can, and can play them well

Grimes - To show he can

Jamar - Because we will need him to

Next 6: Davey, Frawley, Jurrah, Moloney, Scully, Green.

Was just looking at the games played, the following got close this year:

- Bartram (21) - Missed one with broken jaw IIRC

- Bennell (19)

- Bruce (21)

- Davey (20)

- Frawley (21) - Back Spasm

- Garland (20)

- Scully (21) - Rested

- Jordie (21) - Not bad for a rookie listed player

This is more of a lottery question. I would say the more the better. Anyone who can crack 22 games will be an automatic top 10 player. Too many variables like injuries, form, suspensions etc to cherry pick names. If someone like Watts can manage this then he will have truly arrived and delivered.

Sylvia - Arguably our most talented player and can tear games apart

Davey - See comment for Sylvia. Toss a coin as to which is better

Russian - Super important and will be a crucial to our surge up the ladder

Frawley - Defence wins premierships and he is the key to our backline

Green - Likely captain, reigning B&F and still our best (and most reliable) scoring option

Grimes - Future leader and provides class of half back. Massively important.

Apologies to:

Jurrah - Could kick 50+ in a season if he gets a run and is the x-factor every team craves

Scully - Expect to see him starting to win games off his own boot in 2011. Super talent

Trengove - See Scully although slightly less upside IMO.

Watts - Doubt there's anyone more important to our premiership aspirations

True, but consider the quality of the Collingwood players that played every game this year. Pretty telling IMO, obviously one of the reasons they had such a good year. Definitely the more the merrier, but if it was to only be 6 - who would you like to see?

I think most of the names already mentioned are worthy. If 6 of our top 10 this year should do that then it will be sensational. This will indicate we have a tight and well balanced team which has had a bit of luck like Collingwood this year. And likely be strong finals contenders. But also one must consider whether it would be beneficial for some players to play all 22 home/away games. Some players may need a rest due to fatigue. They may have an excessive burden like Mark Jamar this year. I do not think the coaching staff would hesitate to rest our very best players if they felt they needed it. The team must also be strong enough to to carry individuals who may have a lapse in form. Like I said before, too many variables and this is all just dream talk in the end.

Sylvia

Petterd

Morton

Grimes

The reasons vary between team structure and injurys etc. I feel if these guys are in the 22 every week, finals we shall make.

Firstly i agree with every person named in this thread. But i also ask the question, that as we move further forward towards our premiership window, Is there a need for players to play every game?

Is it reasonable to think that in modern footy, with such a quick but intense tackling game, that a footballer can maintain the intensity needed over 26 weeks to win a premiership?

While 6 Collingwood players playing every game is significant, I also believe that there ability to have such a strong squad and rotate alot of players was as important in their ultimate success.

Just a few questions here what do u guys think?

See your point. Didn't make it to the top 10 in the B&F despite all those games. Neverless a great achievement by him. If he starts looking to where he wants to kick the ball he might get to the top 10 one day.
