I've got ta give my thanks to the Jungle Boy, you just have to respect that fella.

I so admire who he is & what he's done with a club that couldn't win a coin toss.

Turned them into a great team & club, with just a little help from his friends.

He would be a great Friend to have in 2012 or 2013 when he's on top of his business dealings. As a consultant to our great coach.

Interesting to see your one of the few that understands his nickname.

Probably showing your age there.

It seems to be generally accepted in the media that they spell it incorrectly.

Good luck to him, but if he ends up at Essendon he will cop truck loads of flack for it.

As I view it there are only two ways this will pan out . He does I deed step back from footy and gets on with new challenges and keeps intact his honour and crediibilty or he reappears in Jan at Essendon. If the latter then quote frankly he'd be nothing more than a lying and hypocritical @$!&!!. Essendons words ate carefully chosen , thompsons strangely vague... All smells a bit

He'll go to Essendon. The burn out scenario is a cop out. He knows losing the best player in the comp with an ageing list will be another big challenge. He has coached for 11 years - that is a fair stint, he doesn't wasn't to see through a demise and rebuild. He has better things to do. He's won 2 Premierships and built a great list in he's time at Geelong. Should just be upfront and say I want to dip my feet in water elsewhere at Essendon where it all began, it's time to move on, it's been great coaching, but my time is up, time for someone else.

If he ends up at Essendon before 2011, he'll cop flak. After 2011 he won't.

what about during 2011? Or did you mean to say ". . . . for 2011 . . . . after 2011"?

Football is an industry made on lies. I'm not sure what people are surprised about.

It's when it becomes really under handed that I get frustrated, Wellman being poached for example. On my way into work I listen to SEN a bit, a bit less recently as Tim Watson is grating on me.

This morning he gave reasoning on why it would be ok if Thompson ends up at Essendon. Watson has a vested interest for a few obvious reasons. A very close mate of Hird who Hird has sought advice from in seeking assistant coaches.

This is all a done deal and I will be surprised if Thompson is not at Essendon by January.

Watson is the proverbial nob !! Of course he'd validate Bomber to windy hill. If he goes there then again I suggest he's just full of the brown stuff . Has the gall to tell gazza he's making a wrong move and then does a dodgy himself. Cats have been duped left right and middle here.

I meant as Cook said it. He won't be looked upon well at Geelong if he signed up before tha start of 2011 for the coming season. Any move after 2011 would be deemed ok at Geelong.

All good things come to an end eventually.

It's like essendon have had a call to arms. Anything red & black in their blood have been called upon. Good on them (as much as I dislike it). They need to rebuild the faith of the supporters, because they and businesses were walking out because of the stench created by their own doing.

They open the war chest.

They pay out Knighta.

They appoint Hird on a contract unheard of as a rookie.

They appoint Wellman.

They appoint Corcoran.

They look to secure Bomba.

This would equate to signing on members, coterie groups and regain faith of members with something seen as a rebuild.

Also retain required players that they might have otherwise have lost thanks to Hird's quick communicatio in a meeting with players.

The belief has been injected, it now just has to work. They have a list to work with.

Back to geelong. It is probably the best thing for Geelong if Thompson doesn't have his heart in it. It gives someone else a chance to sink their teeth into coaching Geelong. Geelong's list doesn't resemble a carcass, They still have a strong list, they will be competitive, more than competitive, but they need to tweak at their list gradually. they have good recruiters and good structure in place that has worked for them for several years. Guys such as Sanderson and Hinkley will do quite well.

Bomber Thompson owes Geelong Nothing...He Gave them 2 Flags and 11 years of his life. He is an essendon boy. Player and Captain of a Premiership side.

Geelong are just whinging because their little Empire is crumbling around them very fast. Bomber is just getting out of town before it is all blamed on him, which is inevitable.

Geelong have a clean stadium and a massive home ground advantage, they have not been duped at all.

Bomber has made a fuss about being straightup.. doing the right thing etc.. hence his sniping at gazza..( poor form I thought )

if after all of that he hasnt the balls to come straight out and say..guys..been a hoot.. time here is up.. can I have a release to Farty Hill pls ? Thats kosher... but to come up with a song and dance about being over footy...then jumping on the No 27 to Bomberland...well honeslty

I half agree with you, But Bomber telling Ablett Jnr to stay Loyal to one team (as a player) is totally fair enough. Ablett will now NOT be remembered as a Geelong person.

Many a person has terminated a contract early, there is always a release valve.

I have heard from a close source that during the last Q of the Prelim the Geelong players took no notice of Bombers instructions. So why would you want to keep working 16 hours a day for that return.

The use by date has been reached and the [censored] have 2 Flags in their cupboard. There is no need for whining.

Bomber is going home.....

My only annoyance..if that, as its other clubs,so who really cares...is why the subtefuge.. call spade..a spade.

Sure, but he didn't know the spade until Jnr made his decision public.

Bomber would have also realized on Prelim night that his empire was over....no point in Hanging around.

If Jnr had stayed, maybe Bomber would have too, but we will never know.

Fair assessment.

Firstly, Thompson is moving away from the senior coaches role which has been an 11 year pressure cooker. He will join Essendon in a different role if he joins at all.

Secondly, he had every right to feel peeved that his number 1 player would not commit to the club in 2011.

I think the impact of Ablett going hastened Thompson's decision.

Some of the criticism on this thread of Bomber has been petty to say the least.

Got to take your hat off to the guy I think. One of the few coaches that goes out truly on his own terms. Even Matthews and Sheedy had to 'quit' because the writing was on the wall.

Spot on. Next year if the Cats slide who is going to be all over the Herald Sun in Mike Sheahan & Mark Robinsons Sights, camped in the front yard waiting to inform another "dead man walking" who needs that??

The Handbags should be satisfied with 2 flags (should have been 3) and get on with life.

Mark Thompson helped save that clubs ass. And lets not foget all those board members who wanted him out after 2006....made it in by one vote apparently, where are they now???

Yeah, not sure if you read post #5. He has stated a few times he only ever wanted one coaching stint.
