Re - read the thread. The reason there was no clash in 1966 is because Collingwoods guernsey is now predominantly black. In 1966 it was predominantly white. Collingwood's jumper, despite what Eddie says is completely opposite to its "traditional" guernsey.

that is a silly sttatement. finance for clubs, safety for people, and state of ground (maintenance) would have more to do with it. it hasn't affected geelong has it ?

jumpers is different. this issue comes down to power. AFL power. wouldn't be surprised if eddie himself drew up the rules of who wears what and when.

I do not think it would matter to the AFL if one side wore flashing lights on their shorts.

IMO the term "clash jumper" is the short term discription for what they really want which is an "away strip"

Their ultimate objective is to have all teams wear a "white" jumper when they are the away team.

E.G. Basketball and a number of competitions overseas.

Don't understand the need but it seems to be a determined effort IMO by the AFL.

It's not silly at all...Of course it hasn't affected Geelong, it has made them stronger-which is exactly my point.

Not every decision the AFL makes is always for the good of the game, But their spin Doctors are well versed in telling us that all is well.

Well, if I was in his position in a close game and got asked if I mistook the ump for a dee, guess what I'd say

TBH I'm not saying it wasn't a case of a clash, it probably was, but there is room for doubt (totally stupid umpiring decision anyway)

BTW I do believe there are cases of misidentification in games, always has been and always will be, even with clash strips. Problem is just how prevelant they are and to what extremes do you goto to avoid them. At the moment the AFL just dictatorially decide who clashes and what clash strips must look like and allows new franchises to design home strips which obviously clash etc. etc.

What I am against is a predominately white clash strip, and the narrow defining of which teams we clash with.

I think the AFL rulings on these two aspects are an overreaction and overly dictatorial

I agree with you, there was IMO a bigger clash on Friday night than there will be on Saturday.

You know, its not just a few "zealots" on 'land who are unhappy, there are many punters in many clubs (and other leagues) who are pizzed off too.

And don't believe the club is happy either, its just not the biggest item on their agenda and given they have to have a clash strip under the AFLs strict rules, they have to put a bit of happy-face and spin on it. They are hardly likely to announce a new clash jumper shortly and say they are unhappy about it are they? Expect a lot of spin.

The only club that would do what you want is collingwood

but the AFL will not bring on that fight.

The only other club that might do it is Carlton but I doubt it after the AFL looked the other way

I just think we get more excited than most clubs.

I went onto a couple of St Kilda sites this afternoon and could not find any comment about playing in the clash strip.

I think we have lost because the vast majority have excepted the "new order"
