Jack Trengove

Trenners played his first season of footy and is now in our best 22. Nuff said.

I think Trengove and Scully were best 22 after round 1.

Scary to think what Scully's gonna do next year after having a full pre-season and given the competativeness between Scully And Trengove, expect Jack to lift his game considerably too- be interesting to see if the other youngsters follow their examples.

Jack Trengove: Jack did some exciting things again. It’s been a long year for Jack, and he got himself over the line with his preparation. He’s done really well this year.

Player review (Mark Williams) from Rnd 22, probably sums up Jack's year nicely IMO. Reading into two lines of a comment is always fraught with danger but it tells me that Jack was probably set back a bit after his injury. Seems he has worked through any issue there to get to the line. It says much about his character if indeed what I am reading into is being read correctly

Will be a star, all class.

Agree with that. It probably also reconises that, like all of our first year players, he is coming off a (deliberately) restricted pre-season. It's an absolute credit to both Trenners and Scull that they got through the full season the way they did.

Wouldn't worry about JT - will be a star

Will be as good or better than TS. I sense there will be a friendly rivalry here, both are so dedicated to getting the best out of themselves, A bit like having two young Nathan Buckleys

I have a feeling you are right. I think JT is a better kick than Tom.

They both get plenty of the ball and a good kick can be the difference between a good player and a champion.

In two years or so, Scully will be the AFL's elite runner. He's already one of the best. Very few will be able to keep up with him.

I can't understand anyone saying they have zero doubts about Trengove and Frawley becoming elite and then not including Scully on that list.

Maurie I am not sure why you think I do not include Scully as a good player.

All I am saying is I think Trengove is a better kick and in the long term that may be the difference between them.

Just quietly, Frawley has been elite for a little while now...

agree but have recently added Scully

When I asked this question in amongst a bunch of dees supporters, everyone had their own take on what it meant to "not worry" about a player. Some of the names:

Watts. He would have nearly made my list, but I'll wait until I've seen what he does with a bigger body before I put him on Frawley's pedestal.

Scully. I just worry about his kicking. He ticks every other box, runs all day and pretty quickly (though I think his top speed actually is a notch or two below some other really quick players). He DOES use his kick well, but past 40 metres there's going to be some not-so-good ones we'll have to put up with. Small price to pay.

Green. A glaring omission. I can't remember a time he wasn't reliable. Though I remember he used to be.

Davey. We've not played finals in so long people forget he hasn't proven himself in one. Also he's known as a player who can be distracted with the right niggle. Form is erratic too.

Jurrah. Up until he came back, I wasn't completely sold. I thought his 9-odd games may have had a fair bit of good fortune. It's not that I don't believe he's capable of Buddy-like performances. I just think once they REALLY start giving him attention he might get frustrated... And based on the last round, it's sure to happen.

Grimes. Kicking isn't terrible, but isn't great either. Again, not a player a "worry" about per ce... But one I can't put him in Trengove and Frawley's class.

Sylvia. His body is now the only thing holding him back. Oh, and maybe a solid tag. Some of his dashes through the guts were Hodge and Judd rolled into one.

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver

Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. He carried injury right through the back half of the season and was controversially involved in a potential move during the trade period that was ultimately shut down by the club. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

2024 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury.
