Will not be either Bruce or Green as they were with others the candidates when Neitz retired who were judged not good enough. So MFC will not go backwards. Prime candidates are Beemer and Flash unless BD decides that another has some outstanding qualities to overtake them. Jack Grimes most likely alternative as already noted. Only concern is he has suffered some injuries and priority is to be on the field. Injury proneness is what excludes Rivers.

Hopefully the Football Department has thought this through already before not offering Junior an extention for 2011.

Junior has conducted himself very well in the media today - clearly not his decision but he has chosen not to challenge it. Quality effort today and we can end him off in style on 29 August at the G. Listening to the media grabs just replayed on SEN Big Jimmy had a bit of difficulty explaining the decision.

Agree is probably the right call given the progress expected of the younger brigade in 2011 and beyond. Will only be regarded as resonable if the MFC discards Miller as noted above. Given Meesan and Newton at least automatic delistings presume that means only 2 more spaces need to be vacated?

Unfortunately at this stage Jack Grimes is quite injury prone, so I wouldn't give it to him until we are sure that his body will hold up.

I think you are right with the other two, maybe Bruce is in contention if they want to give Gimes another year or two to see if he can become a regular on the field. My biggest worry with Moloney is that he may not be in the best 22 in a couple of years, but he seems to the best on field leader at the club.

C'mon, it won't be Grimes!!! He's too young, too inexperienced and too injury-prone at present. In the future he may get the gig but as of now Green, Moloney, Davey, Bruce and Rivers are streets ahead.

I am a massive, huge fan of Jack Grimes and would love to see him given the job. Like a Carey or Voss, he leads the team from the beginnings at base camp (to use Jimmy's phrase) to the summit.

I like the sound of that.

I am fairly positive that won't happen.

I believe it will be one of Davey or Moloney. I've been at a loss to understand why Green was not stand in skipper instead of Bruce, for this reason I exclude Green from my thoughts.

Moloney - I like his grunt and hard at it approach, I have my own personal doubts on whether he will be there right to the summit, but that's just IMHO.

Davey - love the flash, just feel that he struggles at times and can go missing in games when given a lot of attention - not an ideal trait of a skipper.

Green, I don't have any doubts about and this is why I believe him to be the best person, but don't feel he will be given the job.

I'll go with Davey as my guess

I'm going to stir the pot and say while I think it will be one of Bruce, Green & Moloney, I also reckon Rivers is a real dark horse!

I have previously mentioned that if Junior were to go around again in 2011, I favoured Grimes to lead from 2012 onwards. Now that Junior's career has come to an end, I'm of the opinion that Brad Green should be the new captain of the Mfc.

But, it wouldn't surprise me the least if C.Bruce or even dark horse J.Rivers were given the honour. Why I mention Rivers is DB has praised Rivers' values as a leader around the club as well as on the field a few times. But whether or not that has any bearing on selection, I'm not entirely sure.

On Grimes, whilst I'm of the opinion he oozes captaincy material, there may be others further down the track who may develop into excellent leaders in their own right by the time the baton is passed again. Watts and Scully come straight to mind.

Moloney has done his chances no harm by demonstrating his leadership with his annual expedition to Warrnambool.

This has been well received by younger players and shows leadership.

A few things that havent been discussed. The captain isnt necessarily your best player - Tom Harley is often quoted as an example of a very successful captain but not a great player. He must be able to represent the club suitably in front of the media and sponsors, sets the highest standards as regards off field performance and is highly respected by players.

I dont think the commentary so far has dealt with this.

Green probably commends on several fronts.

Sounds good. If Grimes had maybe played a similar amount fo games as Morton had he might have been a chance, but playing under 50 games makes it tough. Not due to lack of ability but ability to get on teh park due to his back/hamstring/quad injuries the last 3 years.

Cam Bruce id teh Vice Captin and was in charge when Jnr was out so he would have to be the fron runner, but a lot can change from when he was made VC two years ago.
