GAME DAY THREAD

I'll kick things off early.

The results of other games have made our finals aspirations less likely but the good things is that now we have only ourselves to rely upon. If we keep winning We'll make it (I think).

Against that however, is the fact that the weather will make things easier for the more experienced and harder-bodied Hawks.

If the rumours circling are true about Chip being out, then we are royally screwed and I can't see us winning.

Finals or no finals though, it's about time we stop letting Hawthorn smash us. A good hard contest is the minimum required today.

Awaiting 1pm (or thereabouts) when we'll know the final changes (if any) to the Dees lineup...

I'm in Cambodia and trying desperately to find a link to the game! Very pumped. I agree re Chip, but if it is raining, it may matter less.

The other results yesterday sucked eggs. On the other hand, this is our hardest game remaining, so GO DEES! Pump the [censored] and poos!

Well said

They humiliated us in round 1, and on paper they have an even better side today with the addition of Buddy, Bateman, Burgoyne and Sewell. But we had a number of players short of experience (Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Strauss and Spencer) and form and fitness (Davey, Bate, and Bruce). Different story this time with Scully, Trengove and Jordie all packing on double figures of games, and our backline has been unchanged for weeks.

If we can avoid another 6 goals to nil quarter like last time, then we're a chance. Go Dees.

Sydney have done enough to get into the finals probably (Doggies at SCG and Lions at Gabba to come). It's now out of Melbourne, Hawthorn and North to snatch 8th.

If Melbourne lose today, it comes down to: "and then there were two". If North lose against the Saints today, consider the 8 done n' dusted.

Big game today for the Dees! C'mon Melbourne!!

in :)

No changes to either side.

Will the rain help or hinder? We've played some good football int he wet, but the physical style of the Hawks could make it a little difficult.

Hey guys, in America, and our Aussie sport tv has been commandeered by two Adelaide supporters. Would appreciate updates as they come.

GO DEES!!!

what are the Trends of the Game?? Are we playing well, is it an all out war, or are we just hanging in there?

I want to win this one so much!!!

Does anyone know what's happened to Davey??? Aussie with a great goal!! M37H32

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
