Josh Fraser...2nd ruck?

Featured Replies

Pretty sure he's out of contract after this year, and he doesn't seem to be in favour at Collingwood. I reckon he'd be a good 2nd ruck to Jamar and could float into the forward line and kick a few. Thoughts?

No No No No No No.

A balloon would float more effectively in the forward line than Fraser.

Insipid attitude and no physical presence. A wet sponge of a big man.

Jolly is not doing much at the Pies. Wood is being played as a second ruck and he isnt much. What does this say about Fraser?

What RR said.

Fraser has never been, and will never be, any good.

Most overrated No.1 pick in history, No club would be stupid enough to even entertain the idea !!!

Plus we have Sylvia. We don't need yet another back up ruckman.

Naaagh... We've got what we need, we just have to grow it. And keep planting the new seeds into the ground as we harvest the others & reap what we sow.

Ok maybe not. I'm interested as to who people think WOULD be a good (experienced) 2nd ruck to pick up? We definitely need someone to support the big Russian sooner rather than later.

Just a thought starter - relax hey?

I would be more interested in Robbie Warnock, he seems out of favour over at Carlscum and can't get a game there. Kouta was saying on SEN a week or so ago that they seem happy with the 2 they are currently using and he can't see Robbie getting back in soon.

Wouldn't pay him $400k per year but he is worth a shot as a second string ruckman.

Why wouldn't we develop from the list we have than pay for a proven NQR who is not part of the Pies plans and should not be part of ours?

And you wanted peoples thoughts.....and they are pretty clear cut....relax hey? B)

Warnock can absolutely GFH imo, he made his bed.....

At this point I wouldnt.

Given where the game is at, the days of carrying a limited use beanpole on the pine to pinch hit for 5 minutes each quarter is a luxury few can afford? Warnock was supposed to be No 1 ruck to allow Kruezer to go forward more. In fact Kruezer is No 1 ruck and Warnock cant play forward.

Yeah - other people's thoughts & ideas was the point of posting this thread. I don't have a problem with people not agreeing, in fact some of the points about JF make me think yeah, maybe not so much. But I still don't see our current backup guys being ready to go in 2011.

Josh Fraser isn't ready to go next year either. No point picking someone up who is no better than the current crop of players we have. Plus Fraser is injury prone, can't string a month of good football together if he can't even stay on the park adn train for a full month

Warnock can absolutely GFH imo, he made his bed.....

Ditto...

No No No No No No.

I'll double that!

We've got some time on our side.....Fitpatrick and Gawn for the long term....IMO Spencer is still a valuable work in progress.

Josh Fraser?? Cannot stand the bloke....cant remember what year but remember him giving the wave to Jeff White on one particular Queens B'day game after the wobblers got a good start.....we ended up running all over them which was as sweet as it gets!!

I understand the point that it is tough for Russian to play a full year on his own but IMO there is no point playing a second ruckman if cannot provide value....Stef Martin is another prospect in this area as well....IMO Stef has some potential he just needs to impose himself when he gets his chance as he could provide value around the ground. I find him to be a little soft in the contest at this stage, but this may be more of not understanding the positioning required at times rather than a pre-meditated opting out of the contest.

He destoryed us last year. But those performaces are few and far between.

If he was delisted and only required a PSD pick, then i'd be 50/50. But he'll go before that to a club more desperate than us in the ruck stocks, of which there are many.

Flaser isn't the answer. The problem is that I wouldn't trade a top 30 pick for a second ruckman (PJ for pick 20 was a DUD trade, as was Wood for pick 14 and Warnock for 21), yet you won't get anyone of quality without spending that much.

Probably the best thing to do is to keep drafting ruckman with late picks and rookie picks. Jamar, Sandi etc are all from the rookie draft and even guys like Sam Jacbos are servicable.

The scary thing, is that if we'd lost that game to Carlton, we'd have had pick 1 instead of pick 4, and would have had the PP before the first round the following year, instead of after (pick 2, instead of pick 18)

If we'd lost that one game, our ruck division would be: Jamar, Kruiser and Nic Natanui. WOWOWOWOW!!!!

That's if we picked Kreuzer and Nic Nat. I doubt we needed to pick two ruckmen with top picks. The rest of our picks would be completely different too.

I'm very happy with Fitzy and Gawn and I think Jamar is handling being the No.1 ruckman fine. Well, better than he was handling being No.2.

He played on PJ that day. Luke Ball could have broken out on top of him :(

I reckon the other side would be desperate for a ruckman....Maybe the Hawks....before posters stitch the Hawks up with a one side deal involving Meesen or PJ for their first round pick.

We have Johnson, Spencer, Gawn, and Fitzpatrick, (Meeson maybe). It is probably a safe bet that at least one of these will turn out a good player. Not many would of forseen how good Jamar was going to be this year even a couple of years ago. Definately would not waste a spot on the list with JF.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
