Over the last 12 months i have noticed from time to time across both demonology and demonland hinting that watts attitude is not as it should be. I then here the MFC say his attitude is brilliant and that is why we selected him. But again tonight on league teams david parkin who is well credentialed stated that he hoped watts attitude had turned around, or words to that affect.

My question to anybody in the know is this just plan rumor mongrel-ling or is it fact, i hope it is not as i would be very disappointed if it was the case

Not having a go at you, but IMO this is the type of post that keeps myths like that alive.

More the fool you for being sucked in to ask such a question.

As has already been said - no offence but what would Parkin know about us that people closer to the fire here wouldn't? Let it go through to the keeper as you should with crappy "get out" tempters.

When is the last time Parkin's opinion was relevant?

Sometime around 1999 I'd have thought.

Give up, move on.

And the answer is?

Get a life! Why are you worried about what some long retired, "well credentialed", ex coach, with strong ties to a team we will be piting our youngs Vs theirs, for the next 8 years, has to say about a our number one draft pick.

I think young Mr Watts has shown a MASSIVE amount of POSITIVE attitude in putting up with weak minded doomsayers looking to give negative support to any Journo in the land trying to sell whatever they're putting out. Oh, but just keep posting garbage like this so it gives the issue traction.

What's the follow up ? "Demon Fans Worried about Watts attitude"

The only ATTITUDE I ever wonder about is some of our fan base.

Let me fire this back at you

If you think Watts has a attitude problem then wouldn't you think dean bailey and co would know about it ?

I would be more concerned about one of those 14 players that got a positive drug test being on our list than any more

rumours concerning jack watts

To think i actually admired this guy Parkin in the early sixties pfft

Watts did not show any signs of attitude against Coburg... Although it does look like he expects a whole lot from himself, but no signs of any poor attitude.

I dunno dude. Those temper tantrums whenever he didn't pull something off worry me... :)

What I saw on the weekend was a guy who was desperate to show what he could do. Never a bad thing.

David Parkin has been on about this issue of Jack's attitude for some time. He went though it in detail last Saturday on ABC radio.

In response to the OP... Wasn't it Parkin (along with Matthews) who got stuck into Watts' attitude a while ago, then admitted he's never spoken to him or anyone at the club? It sounds to me like jealousy to be honest...

In truth, I reckon there might have been one instance that in isolation made it seem like Watts had a bit of arrogance, and due to his profile, it got blown out of proportion... chinese whispers took over, and suddenly he's plagued by a bad attitude across his whole approach to the game.

It could just as easily be some Wayne Carey arrogance as anything else. Any club could use some Wayne Carey influence. During his playing days when he wasn't boinking other players' wives, he was the complete package. Arrogant, ruthless, a leader, club-man etc etc.

When you look at these rumours (and ANY rumours of this nature) in that light, it's very easy to dismiss them as the usual scuttlebutt that goes with being a #1 pick.

Agree. And furthermore, it seems to me that Parkin initiated and seems to be the main perpetuator of this crap. It seems to me he is struggling to scrape together a commentary of any substance pertaining to the MFC, so recycles the odd reference to this in order to fulfill his media commitments.

I'm confident that the club would not pick him if his attitde was not right. In the side this week, case closed.

Why is everyone so touchy. Flower Power just asked a question. Don't blame him/her for starting the thread. Parkin is the dope who brought it up. Flower justs wants to know if anyone has better info than the hacks in the media. Personally i don't think he'd get a game if he had a bad attitude.

Flower Power......I would suggest to you that this site is exactly designed to ask these kind of questions. Far too many people who think they know more than they do will be quick to shoot you down for bringing it up but if they have an issue with your thread I dont understand why they bother replying if it bothers them so much.

This is a rumor that I haven't heard too much about and am happy for the question to be asked.....as some suggest here that Parkins thoughts are redundant, so to are many of their opinions.

All these questions and rumors will be answered from tomorrow onwards.....no one will know for another 12-24 mths yet on the Watts verdict, talent, attitude etc etc.

I for one hope that none of it has any credence and that he will be the dominant player we all hope him to be

Well put Pringle......far too many people here who think they know it all!!

David Parkin has been on about this issue of Jack's attitude for some time. He went though it in detail last Saturday on ABC radio.

I heard the comments from Parkin. He was put on the spot to clarify comments he had made some weeks ago. He advised that Watts to date had a limited training program in his first year and that his commitments to his school also limited his TAC exposure at his junior level. He said MFC have spent alot of time building up Jack physically and educating him on the need to do the hard yards to succeed at AFL. The inference was that particularly at school football that Jack was never fully tested and his natural ability has allowed he to overcome challenges. He said he is learning at MFC that natural ability is not enough on its own to succeed.

I think most of what Parkin recounted is at best 2nd ror enven 3rd or 4th hand. I think some of his references to Watts attitude were inept and inaccurate. His initial statements weeks earlier gave the impression that there some other than what he explained.

Good luck to Jack Watts and I hope he as a great game and everyone gets right behind him.

One more thing I will add to this is that I have met Jack on a few occasions now and each and everytime he goes out of his way to speak to all fans, especially the kids who are always all over him.

For me, this is part of his make up and goes hand in hand with what you would expect his attitude to be and how he would approach most area's of life including his footy.

He WILL be a star!!

Thanks pringle and demon jack, it was just a query that i thought could be knocked on the head, or unfortunately confirmed by our fellow posters, some who haVE very close connections to the club. Like all of us here i am praying that he will be a good contributor over the next 10 years

I think this just highlights a problem that exists in the footy media in general: it's jam packed with ex-coaches and ex-players who have been out of the game for too long and have lost touch with it. Because they are not professional journalists and they lose their 'contacts' in the industry over time and therefore their ability to get 'real' information, they just start making stuff up. Parkin is definitely one of these types. You can't put any stock at all in anything he says. Robert Walls is another.

What we really need are knowledgeable journalists who really know and understand the game, but who are actually professional journalists at the core. Unfortunately the talent pool of people who meet this criteria seems to be completely dry.

In my mind the club have done the right thing with Jack.

Not sure why people on this site feel the need to hang sh*t on Flower Power, they just asked a question!!!

Jack has been cotton wooled, having your MUM text you about NicNat has to be a frustration also... Someone takes Mrs Watts phone off her will ya!

As mentioned Jack is a late starter to football, yes he played juniors but only made the decision between football and basketball in his draft year.

IF he DID have an attitude problem - DO YOU REALLY THINK THE MFC OR ANYONE ELSE WOULD TELL THE PUBLIC?!?!!? My answer is no way, imagine how much pressure he would be under then.

Parkin is a smart man, he may not have met Jack, but im sure he has his ear tot he ground and has enough football people in his network to make a call like that (not saying he is right)...

Fingers crossed he will be good on Saturday, last we saw of him the GAME was too fast for him and he looked like a duck out of water...

He has put on 9kg, that will stop him being pushed around, and hopefully he can run out the game...

Would love to see him 1 out in the square making big leads out to the 50m ark....

I for one will def be there on Saturday to see what unfolds.
