Rivers, Grimes, Frawley and Joel Mac

Recommended Posts

Anyone know the latest with these guys who must have question marks for round 1?

Rivers - Got injured in NAB 3. Wearing a knee brace last week, according to a training report here.

Grimes - Didn't participate in training last week, doing handball drills on boundary line. Missed NAB 4.

Frawley - Went off injured in NAB 4.

Joel MacDonald - A mystery. Was our best player in NAB 1. Missed NAB's 3 and 4 for no apparant reason. You'd think he would've played in all pre-season games to adjust to his new club. Must be injured.

Hopefully all these players have minor issues and will play against Hawthorn as they're all important players.

From Family Day, in a quick word at the stands they were at,

Grimes - spoken to him a few times in the past, assured me he was just rested as he was a bit sore from time in the middle and was sweet.

Frawley (sitting next to Grimes) - had a pressure bandage on his calf, asked him, assured me precaution, sweet as for Rd 1

Rivers - bouncing round on the Polaroid Photo stand sitting, standing, etc, didn't seem in any discomfort, told me he was sweet.

Joel Mac - a very quick word, said he was fine, end of conversation....

Can't speak about the other 3, but i had a great chat with Jack Grimes one on one at the family day and he said he did not pull up sore from NAB 3 as suggested. He was rested because he had played all 3 previous NAB games. This was the directive from coaching and medical staff. Also said he was "pumped" for round 1. Very down too earth good bloke!

Daz Dee's yes that was probably me paraphrasing for Jack Grimes, he probably said rested which I thought meant sore, the only concern I had about the uninjured players on the day was Matty Bate, he seemed very subdued, could be just a bit knackered from the game the day before.

especially if Sylvia somehow returns for round 1.

well don't hold your breath for that, 2 weeks for a broken jaw would be a miracle... but as you say, it's still not that bad... Bate, Bruce and Davey will all be there, so Morton and Jurrah are the only other ones that will truly be missed, perhaps Garland also, and it would be nice to have Watts out there. Still, could be a lot worse

They're saying he could return. He'd wear a helmet if he did though from what I've heard.

If it was up to Sylvia he'd probably play this week. I'd love to see him out there but we can't risk another broken jaw, hopefully the medico's make the right decision whatever that may be.

Rumour is young Trengove has a bit of an injury - nothing too serious and shouldn't stop him from round 1, contact your sources and figure that one out ladies and gents.

I heard he had a cork thigh which slowed him down in the match against the wiggles. He still played a good percentage of the game and has two weeks to recover.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
