TIME FOR DEMONS TO FIRE UP

In reviewing our results in 2009 where we all know that we won 4 games and tanked for the later part of the year.

In RD 1 we were beaten by North Melb by 34 points, in RD 5 were beaten by Adelaide by 17 points, RD 6 beaten by Geelong by 43 points, beaten by WC by 8 points in RD7. In RD 8 BEATEN by the Scraggers by 7 points.Rd 9 beaten by Hawthorn by 22 points. In rd 17 & 18 we were beaten by the Swans by 18 points when we were tanking, and Richmond by 4 points.

And to show how well we could or can play belted Fremantle by 63 points.

The above results show me that with natural improvement, allowing our players to play in their rightful positions will allow us to win at least 7 games

To play devil's advocate - we weren't great in round one and neither were North (as evidenced by the remainder of their season), the Adelaide game was possibly the worst spectacle ever witnessed on the ground and we were playing an Adelaide team that had not hit their straps, the Cats were pretty much in cruise control, the Eagles and Dogs games I took positives out of, the Hawks should've beaten us by 10 goals + - the margin in that game couldn't have been more flattering. The last two are difficult to gauge as both teams really struggled.

Personally, I can see arguments for it going either way but like any young team, injuries and luck will play a massive part.

Well I am one that has put what I believe are the minimum acceptable for the club going forward- how many games do you think we should win.Plese don't forget we play 16 games at the Gee.

Pre-determining what is acceptable before the season begins is a very difficult thing to do in my view. Especially considering that determining the level of what is "acceptable" implies that there would be consequences for some if they are not met - the people involved and the subsequent punishment would probably have to be pre-determined as well.

I'd rather see positive development in the likes of Jurrah, Grimes, Sylvia, Garland, Morton, Watts etc., at least a half dozen games from Strauss, Blease, Scully and Trengove but we fall short in a few matches and are competitive in our losses.

This, in my view, is preferable to seeing us fluke a few wins but have poor showings in the games we lose.

If Garland, Watts, Green, Grimes, Sylvia, Jurrah, Frawley, Moloney all have injury interupted seasons and we manage only 6 wins with an average losing margin of, say, 20 points - I'd be reasonably happy with that.

For interest's sake however, all things being equal, if we have a good run with injuries I could see us clocking up 8-9 wins.

After reading this article TIME FOR DEMONS TO FIRE UP, I concur that this is the year for us to show something.

If we languish down in either last or second last place it will be really disappointing.

Need to win at least 7 games.

Your thoughts?

I think it's time you went to bed.....obviously schools out....put you head down and study hard next year and success will follow just as it will for the Dee's in 2010.\

We are all aware of where the club is at..why discuss ad nauseam????

I like your thinking Ned (on your op).

The thing is though, that you'll find a relatively small amount of people on here are expecting finals. I think our CEILING in 2010 is to scrape in to eighth position. And that's only if about 3 or 4 sides absolutely capitulate at the end of the season. With less incentive to play for picks in 2010, I think we'll find the competition at seasons' end stiffer than ever. ie, no tanking, developing players.

I reckon 80-90% of posters here are predicting 6 wins, or thereabouts. Maybe some positive types are going for 8.

Being a touch on the negative side, I reckon given where our skills were at last season, there's almost no chance we'll play finals. That said, I don't think anyone really cares about that, so long as we see the development we all want to see. For my part it's not about win/loss ratio... Neither is it about finals...It's about getting ourselves off the bottom of the ladder, and for the first time in 3 years being taken seriously as a football side. That really is all it's about in 2010. Anything more in a bonus.

Would it be fair to say that, in a way this will be DB's first real year of coaching?

It is my opinion this is his first major test this year- as stated earlier, I think if we do not see certain improvement, say 7 games or as Dappa Dan stated...It's about getting ourselves off the bottom of the ladder, and for the first time in 3 years being taken seriously as a football side. That really is all it's about in 2010. Anything more in a bonus.

However, I believe as stated several times... 7 wins is the minumum or six wins with marked improvement..

Also I think that is Bell in the photo and I cant' recall him playing in that game either.

Yes and we have the 150 year logo on the shirt so the caption is wrong, its 2008. Also the player turnover list has Stef martin drafted in 2008 PSD which is incorrect.
