Is there any team that Jurrah would not be a starting 22 player in?

I doubt it.

I'm not sure what your question establishes though.

That's something we'd probably all agree on CB

It simply confirms that we have a very good player on our hands, star or no star.

I dont think the quality of the player is in question at all by anyone. The issue is a reasonable assessment of his achievements to date.

The coming years could be very exciting with him and others developing.

Whilst I agree with RR that this is an excercise in semantics, what's wrong with that.

Liam is already a star for MFC based purely on the journey that has undertaken to be here and the magnetism that he brings with his performances thus far, both for Casey and MFC. The articles that have been written and televised about his journey have been many and varied, The saga on demonland and demonology with regards to his first MFC jumper, culminating with the Long Journey theme to the Women of Melbourne function was incredible. His story is now known to a wide audience and makes people have an interest in MFC that they would not otherwise have.

On the football side, he has shown nothing to indicate anything except excellence. Sure, longevity in the game is the true test of a footballer's ability, and I expect that he will achieve that. I, for one, cannot wait until his football exploits match his journey and he becomes a superstar. I have not met Liam, but I have spoken to people who have and I expect that he will remain humble no matter what his expoloits, the mark of a true champion.

I'd say he's a star for the MFC already, but that says more about our list than about him.

He will be a star/match winner/frequent BOG of the competition one day, no doubt.

i think when people are coming to the game just to watch him play on a regular basis then he is a star!

one of the reasons on why I attended Round 22 v st.Kilda was to watch Liam himself. I wasn't the only one. he is a star! could well have kicked the lazy seven that day had he been left on the ground, maybe more.

agree with cb, it is subjective. it is up to the individual on who they like to refer to as a star. liam already has a massive following and is looked up to by many. his freakish and exquisite skills and movements are things that not alot - if any - of footballers can do, regardless of how many games liam has played.

He is a star, no doubt.

What we all hope is that the star can continue to burn brighter and not fade away.

His "cameo" appearances this year, are sure to bring people through the turnstiles in 2010. That only happens when you have star quality.

Best thing of all, I have a mate who barracks for the Filth, who grimaces every time I mentioned LJ's name. That alone makes the WW a star in my book.

This kid is star, you don't have to be playing for a long time to be a star, look at James dean was only in a few movies, but his he less of a star then Marlon brando, no he is not one has been in movies for over 4 decades, but i would say more people know the name James dean then Marlon Brando, so yes if he broke his back tomorrow and never played again he would still be a star. When i watch this kid play it makes me think of the greats, gaza snr, carey, they are just good, and Liam will never be down for long in any game he playes in, in around 22 last season that kick to miller, in the forward line, miller was the only dees player, he was surrounded by Sanits. but done of them had a chance to spoil, it was a perfect pass pin point, as denis would say centimeter perfect.

Will the historical pages show Darren Cuthbertson as a past star of the MFC? No, it will show he played an amazing handful of games at the start of his career, kicking ridiculous bags of goals and taking hangers on a weekly basis. And then just as quickly as it began, it was all over for the man who started his career, coincidentally, wearing the number 48 guernsey in his breakout year. The weight of expectations showed on him, and he will be remembered as an exciting flash in the pan who entertained the crowds immensly while it lasted, rather than a star.

For Jurrah to be considered a star, he will have to play a sustained brand of football for a couple of years yet.

... as denis would say centimeter perfect.

Denis is a stickler for accuracy; he would say 'centimetre perfect'.

LJ has innate talent that Cuthbertson could only dream about. Besides, a different time, place and style of footy back then.

Woewy was a star. He was shattered when he was shafted in 2001 by Daniher and never returned to his previous level. As for McGough, one game, one award.....P......lease!!!

LJ has innate talent that Cuthbertson could only dream about. Besides, a different time, place and style of footy back then.

Would you have said that at the time after Cuthbertsons first 9 games though? No, we wouldve all been salivating about the future star forward we had on our hands, saying 'look how good he's been, and he's only played 9 games...'.

I dont see how the style of game dictates that a forward who's able to kick bags of goals, take big marks and influence games is relevant?

Cuthbertson was a "small" forward who could play tall. He was a pinch hitter, a bit like Robbo. Difference being Robbo had commitment and dedication. When the gauntlet was thrown down to Cuthbertson he couldn't cut the mustard. To compare him to LJ is to compare chalk and cheese.

To compare him to LJ is to compare chalk and cheese.

Not necessarily. At the stage of playing 9 games each, Jurrah and Cuthbertson had both performed at a level that had supporters thinking either was a "star".

Its just another angle on the semantics of rating players as "stars". Its a valid comparison.

Liam Jurrah totally eclipses any sun that might have emanated from Darren Cuthbertson. I remember Cuthbetson's day out against the Filth at Waverley on Queens Birthday (or was it Anzac Day back then?). Despite his effort that day, you could tell there was still something missing.

LIam Jurrah is light years ahead --------just to perpetuate the cliche

Fruitless exercise in semantics

He's not, let's move on and just enjoy his progression

It is an exercise to read people's opinions on Liam. You have your opinion as obviously do others. Hence the discussion taking place. If you don't want to discuss the topic, by all means, move on.

I think we will all enjoy his progression.

Star is subjective. To some he is, to some he isn't.

It is quite evident.

It simply confirms that we have a very good player on our hands, star or no star.

Indeed. I think that is what the poll has concluded too.

Prefer a poll...simple yes or no question... that proves the point.

Read above.

Depending on your definition of star then Isaac Weetra was a star too.

Now that is funny.............

I think as Iva is indicating...with Cuthbertson most suspected it was that .a day out...punching above your weigfht etc.. and most waiting for the fall...and voila !! Jurrah..we know he's only starting out and hasnt even really got out of 1st gear yet. Chalk and Cheese

For the MFC, yes....he's our biggest drawcard ATM. In a football sense, not yet

It is an exercise to read people's opinions on Liam.

No it wasnt. The poll was a simple yes or no situation. If you have included a Not Yet option then you would have more properly canvassed people's opinions. And you poll did not support your conclusion. The poll was useless and discussion fulfilling my statement.

You are comparing one player after 9 games against a player that after a quick sparkle his career faded.

After 9 games with 25 goals Cutho efforts are comparable and statistically challenging on Jurrah. Jurrah has the world at his feet.

Just for the record, Cutho destroyed the Pies with 7 goals then the week before he also kicked 7 against North Melbourne in his 4th and 5th games. But you could tell there was something missing...aye you are canny one.

Proves a point about "star"

After 7 goals one week against North the next week he kicks 7 goals again the team who was 4th. Voila he does not keep it up the next week....Amazing how people picked that then after a bloke kicks 14 goals in 2 games..Amazing.

The fact is we dont know how Jurrah will go and we hope he will do better this year. He is a talent no doubt but back then so was Cutho. If Jurrah is a star then Cutho surely achieves that metric as well. Both assessments would have been premature.

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

Build a bridge and get over it RR. It's a bloody forum for goodness sake, not question time in the House.........or are you really Wilson Tuckey?

LJ, you're a star in my book.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
