I dont think the quality of the player is in question at all by anyone. The issue is a reasonable assessment of his achievements to date.

The coming years could be very exciting with him and others developing.

Whilst I agree with RR that this is an excercise in semantics, what's wrong with that.

Liam is already a star for MFC based purely on the journey that has undertaken to be here and the magnetism that he brings with his performances thus far, both for Casey and MFC. The articles that have been written and televised about his journey have been many and varied, The saga on demonland and demonology with regards to his first MFC jumper, culminating with the Long Journey theme to the Women of Melbourne function was incredible. His story is now known to a wide audience and makes people have an interest in MFC that they would not otherwise have.

On the football side, he has shown nothing to indicate anything except excellence. Sure, longevity in the game is the true test of a footballer's ability, and I expect that he will achieve that. I, for one, cannot wait until his football exploits match his journey and he becomes a superstar. I have not met Liam, but I have spoken to people who have and I expect that he will remain humble no matter what his expoloits, the mark of a true champion.

I'd say he's a star for the MFC already, but that says more about our list than about him.

He will be a star/match winner/frequent BOG of the competition one day, no doubt.

i think when people are coming to the game just to watch him play on a regular basis then he is a star!

one of the reasons on why I attended Round 22 v st.Kilda was to watch Liam himself. I wasn't the only one. he is a star! could well have kicked the lazy seven that day had he been left on the ground, maybe more.

agree with cb, it is subjective. it is up to the individual on who they like to refer to as a star. liam already has a massive following and is looked up to by many. his freakish and exquisite skills and movements are things that not alot - if any - of footballers can do, regardless of how many games liam has played.

This kid is star,you don't have to be playing for a long time to be a star, look at James dean was only in a few movies,but his he less of a star then Marlon brando, no he is not one has been in movies for over 4 decades, but i would say more people know the name James dean then Marlon Brando, so yes if he broke his back tomorrow and never played again he would still be a star. When i watch this kid play it makes me think of the greats,gaza snr, carey, they are just good, and Liam will never be down for long in any game he playes in, in around 22 last season that kick to miller, in the forward line, miller was the only dees player, he was surrounded by Sanits. but done of them had a chance to spoil, it was a perfect pass pin point, as denis would say centimeter perfect.

No, it will show he played an amazing handful of games at the start of his career, kicking ridiculous bags of goals and taking hangers on a weekly basis. And then just as quickly as it began, it was all over for the man who started his career, coincidentally, wearing the number 48 guernsey in his breakout year. The weight of expectations showed on him, and he will be remembered as an exciting flash in the pan who entertained the crowds immensly while it lasted, rather than a star.

For Jurrah to be considered a star, he will have to play a sustained brand of football for a couple of years yet.

Would you have said that at the time after Cuthbertsons first 9 games though? No, we wouldve all been salivating about the future star forward we had on our hands, saying 'look how good he's been, and he's only played 9 games...'.

Cuthbertson was a "small" forward who could play tall. He was a pinch hitter, a bit like Robbo. Difference being Robbo had commitment and dedication. When the gauntlet was thrown down to Cuthbertson he couldn't cut the mustard. To compare him to LJ is to compare chalk and cheese.

After 9 games with 25 goals Cutho efforts are comparable and statistically challenging on Jurrah. Jurrah has the world at his feet.
