It's getting very hard to leave players out!

... and conversely very hard to fit players in!! No Davey?

It is becoming a pleasingly difficult task.

If Butcher comes in i'd most likey drop Jones :( and rotate Wona, Watts and Jurrah up the middle

I was really conscious of a lack of pace, especially in defense, but it's awesomely difficult to pick a team :) Round 1 needs to hurry up!

No way Moloney misses out. Swap him for Jones and you're OK (though I'd have Rivers instead of Spencer).

My team....

FB: Garland - Frawley - Grimes

HB: Davey - Warnock - Rivers

C: Bruce - Sylvia - Morton

HF: Bate - Green - Watts

FF: Jurrah - Miller - Wonaemirri

R: Jamar - Moloney - McDonald

IC. Johnson - Scully - Trengove - Martin

EMERG: Petterd - Spencer - Jones - Blease

OTHERS: Bell - Newton - Cheney - Strauss - Bartam - Dunn - Maric - Jetta - Bennell.

Ok my reasoning behind the team, first off Grimes is put in the BP to provide the run in deep back to give off to centre or to Davey to pin point a player and to take the kick out providing that Garland is good to go,(if not I'm guessing that i would throw in Bennell and swap Rivers down and Grimes up on the field). Now to HB I thought Davey was amazing on the half back setting up all the plays and jumping in the centre when needed Warnock to take the big CHF and Rivers covering. Bruce floating around the field as he usually does, Sylvia in the centre but moving down to the HF to get a rest giving Trengove a run, and letting Bate take a rest, I see Morton playing a similar role to Bruce floating the the HF?HB setting up the smaller players for the runs and pin pointing forwards.

Now the Forward line, Bate to play a Wing/HF like he normally does, Green playing right on the 50 taking grabs and booting long range either goals or delivering it into FF, Then Watts playing a similar role to Bate getting game time and confidence to eventually take over from Green in the next couple of years. Miller finally having a good crack and actaully being the big target (put him in the FF instead of CHF because of his shorter range and less accurate kick than Green), Jurrah to run around leaping and bounding around and little Wona pulling almost a Neon Leon around the goals.

On to the followers, the big russian doing most of the rucking with Johnson coming in and coving the big fella when he needs a break, Moloney need I say much we know what he does, and Junior providing great leadership and work rate showing the effort needed by the team to win games. The Interchange... most people won't agree with me but IMO Johnson is the next best ruckman and when he gets going I believe he will be great for us, Scully swaping in for Junior getting the handball out to Sylvia or Beamer and Martin been what the MFC is turning him into a utilty player.... Still not 100% on it all but I can't really fault this team.

CHEERS.

Assume we pick Scully and Trengove.

Backs: Bennell, Frawley, Garland, Rivers, Warnock, Mcdonald, Grimes.

Midfield/on-ballers: Jamar, Davey, Moloney, Morton, Blease, Bruce, Scully, Trengove.

Forwards: Sylvia, Bate, Green, Watts, Jurrah, Wonaemirri, Martin

That makes 22. Backups include Jones, Petterd, Strauss, Maric, Jetta, Dunn, Miller, Johnson, Cheney, Spencer. These guys will have to step up and replace Mcdonald, Bruce and Green in the next 2 years.

I didn't take long to pick the backline. We just need someone who can take the kick-outs.

There are a lot of options in midfield and you can throw in Sylvia, Grimes and Martin to help out.

Trengove and Scully reportedly have great stamina and need lots of gametime. So does Sam Blease.

Can we afford to pick up Luke Ball and still develop our list?

The forwards were tricky. We are currently scratching for options in the key positions.

So we may need to use picks 11 and 18 to get a promising key position player. Look at Kurt Tippett. He was selected at pick 32 in the 2006 draft.

Bring on 2010!!

Spot on with that statement. I have not put a team down for a while and found this increasingly difficult, but what I did find is that it confirmed (solidified) in my mind who might be delisted and who will be earmarked for delist/retire/trade next year.

Mine (assuming Scully & Trengove are monty's): -

B: Bennell - Warnock - Garland

HB: Rivers - Frawley - Trengove

C: Davey - Grimes - Sylvia

HF: Watts - Morton - Bruce

F: Jurrah - Bate - Green

Foll: Jamar - Moloney - Scully

Int: Spencer - Jones - McDonald - Wonaeamirri

Missed: Petterd, Miller, Martin, Cheney, Dunn, Jetta, Blease, Strauss, Bartram, Meesen, PJ, Bail, Newton, Bell, McNamara.

A few combinations could have been used. There are horses for courses occassionally, but I tried to pick my best side that I believe. I could well of had Macca the skipper in the back pocket in place of Bennell. However he is still part of my top 22 and part of my rotational policy for guys such as Bennell or Trengove or those in the midfield. Found it hard for Full forward, but I stuck with one who had the best season up forward in Bate.

I'm a Newton fan, so that's why I have him in, but realistically, Miller or Martin would come into the 22 for him round one you would think. I'm also a Dunn fan, but couldn't squeeze him into the side, I really hope he forces the hands of the selectors and earns a spot. Same goes for Martin.

I Seriously don't understand how you could be a Newton fan. He has provided very little but a few goals (Cheap ones at that) and a mark of the year. He has a long way to come for me to become a 'Newton Fan'.

emerg from: Watts, Scully, Meesen, Jetta, Dunn, Blease, Garland if fit goes in to 22.

Would like to replace Miller with Watts or other KPP only if deemed ready

If Scully and Trengove are picked at 1 and 2 and are fit round 1, I cant see how either player would not be in the starting 18 if not 22. Given their abilities which we dont have currently, they would be certainties to play. The same would go for Ball if we get him.

At least in the early games Junior will be back pocket/small defender. Strauss will fight for the midfield/HBF positions.

First time Qlander Poster. My selections for the first round team as follows:

Backs McDonald Warnock Rivers

HBacks Grimes Frawley Bruce

Centre Davey Moloney Morton

HFwds Sylvia Bate Jurrah

Fwds Green Martin Jetta

Rucks Jamar Jones Ball

I/C Scully Trengove Miller Petterd

Qualifications

Backs Steadying influence of Macca Bruce & Rivers Free running & strength of Frawley & Grimes

Centre As successfully employed last year

Fwds I believe Jurrah will need the space of the flank to weave his magic moving up & down the ground ensuring tagging problems for the opp. Also presenting great disposal for leading fwds Green & Bate

Do not believe teams in the future can have the luxury of a ruckman resting on the bench. As proved with Jamar resting to take place at full fwd . Taking the "big punt" we will secure Ball. The new recruits will begin learning their trade from the bench with a couple of experienced utilities. Bearing in mind this is a first round selection only. As the season progresses will change as young players find their feet.

i think thats strauss will play off the back flank next season and he is a very good kick so i think he should be taking the kickouts

If this is Barry's 22 then I'd like to assume that picks 11&18 being used for Butcher and Tapscott (both will slide IMO) as well as Ball in the PSDwill be his ultimate goal

Garland-Warnock-Frawley

Bruce-Rivers-Strauss

Scully-Beamer-Davey

Tapscott-Morton-Bate

Jurrah-Butcher-Watts

Jamar-Jones-Ball

I/C-Martin, Aussie, Green, Trengove

This is more of a round 5/6 rather than 1, thay can't all debut!!

@FF-Anyone got a tissue?

JMac needs to fit in their somehow, but thats my BEST 22

Scully may not be ready to go round 1 due to lack of fitness with a late start to Pre-season, but he might be.

Strauss is a player that needs to break in to the 22 if he gets in a big pre season. Brings class and speed. A back pocket is a good starting point. Can take the kick ins eventually and be our go to man deep.

Have a look at our ruck selection. Nearly everyone has picked Jamar as No 1 Ruck. No big surprise. He's tall, strong, fit and at 26 is coming into his prime as a ruckman. He only played 7 games this year but was clearly our best tall option. He kicked 5 against Carlton and monstered Natanui. We could get at least 3-4 good years from the big Russian. He would provide terrific support and plenty of shade for our new army of midfielders.

So why did we only offer him a one year extension on his contract?
