Massive swing and miss, KS.

Like, people are laughing at you that swing-and-miss was so embarrassing.

And you hurt your hernia as well.

Just...appalling.

Essentially:

- GWS get to select 12 x 17 yr olds next year, much the same as GC17 has done this year, which means the upcoming 2010 ND will be further weakened before GC17 even touches it.

- GWS will get pretty much exactly the same draft picks in the 2011 draft as GC17 is getting in 2010 (no differences as far as I can tell - might only extend to round 3 though for the 1st pick of the round)

- GWS will get the first 8 picks in the 2010 Rookie Draft, similar to what GC17 get this year.

Other assorted conditions that don't really affect us too much.

They can poach out-of-contract players from our list, but this can be avoided by signing up said player with an extension before the season concludes.

It also outlines compensation if this does occur.

*** Now, the suspicious thing for me is this sentence in regards to the selections GWS get in the 2011 ND -

"Please note that these selections have priority over any other special assistance / priority selections which may be available to other clubs, as per the rule that applies to the Gold Coast FC for the 2010 Draft."

Does this include Father-Son selections..? See where I'm going with this??

Its inconclusive, but a travesty if this is the case.

I wouldn't have thought "Father-Son" falls under "special assistance" or "priority selections", unless the AFL specifically included "Father -Son" selections. Hopefully it is just an oversight and is clarified.

Damn... that's... horrible, just horrible.

WOW.

Sorry, guys, completely went through to the keeper.

I'm simultaneously trying to organize a bucks weekend and we're looking at places to stay.

Who knew it was so hard to get a place around Portsea to comfortably accommodate 17 drunk men..?

Seriously, there is a market out there for someone to build a big industrial-strength purpose-built bucks-party-weekend mcmansion.

Now there is an idea.

Purpose built, must include padded walls, plasma's on every wall/ceiling.....you could call it the "Keyser Soze last night of freedom B&B"

Its just that is termed a Father-Son Priority Selection, is it not?

I'm going from memory here.

That line just jumped out at me. But I doubt they could possibly get away with suspending the F/S picks for a year or 2.

If the age stipulations stay in place, the 17 year olds they take will be from the 2011 draft; Gold Coast's 17 year olds that they sign this year will be from the 2010 draft.

Industrial strength snooker table, poker table, pool & spa, table tennis, darts and a pole in the centre of the room.

Fully decked out.

If only I had the money to buy the land and build it.

The neighbours wouldn't be happy though.

Yes, very true. I had a feeling I was overlooking something.

cheers.

Just make it sound proof. Problem solved.

You could have Brendan Fevola as guest host.

You might need an interpreter though...

It just shows how the next two years drafts are going to be an abslute bust for the existing clubs. The draft concessions are bad enough, but they will have already picked the eyes out of the best kids before they even get their concessions.

Turnover of the list is going to be interesting.

Premiers will be forced to delist three, and use pick 62 to pick up a player.

EDIT: Maybe not. I saw this in an article on Polak:

Rookies from 2010 will be allowed to remain on an AFL club's list for three years and the minimum required delistings of three players per club would result in a rookie being allowed to be included in one of the three footballers replaced on a senior list.

THE AFL are no good sons of [censored],if you ask me,our picks one and two will be out of contract end of 2011 so this new team can take them if they dont sign up, and if scully, and jack are as good as they say they are, then we might lose both players when the throw money at them, this is what the AFL are hoping will happen, becuse they only care about, these two teams and dam the rest, north are to blame if only they took the gold cost deal none of this would be happening. so you might be saying good bye to jack and scully before we get anything good out of it

I would think theres nothing stopping the club renegotiating new contracts in 2011 carrying them through all this rough turbulence. We wont lose anyone we really want to keep

there mangers will advise them to wait for the new team, to offer them big money,we will not be able to match it, they are going to have more of a salary cap,i wonder if clubs can go to court and sue the afl for salary cap breaches, givin some clubs more money, maybe next time when a club breaches there salary cap, they can use it as a defence.

Total speculation. Not every kid is going to want to run off and play for the "surfies" or the "westies " 2012 and Melbourne will be looking at its looming window.. GC will still be establising itself, whilst the West Sydney Abismals wont have kicked a serious ball in real footy anger having only played magoo level . These guys will still be able to get some good money from Melbourne.

Each club only gets one player from the exiting 16 but granted GWS has two years in which to do it.

Im not particularly concerned about any mass exodus from the Dees...we will just be coming into our own and WE will be a team many will be vying to play for.

Also bear in mind that there has been little to no interest from the public in a team in West Sydney. This area already has two sports they are mad about in Rugby and Soccer. I think they will struggle to attract players to a club with no real prospects of a significant supporter base. There will be some sellout types (like the ones flocking to Carlton right now) who will go for the money wave their premiership hopes goodbye, but I think serious footballers will prefer to stay with clubs that have a hope of success.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
