Docklands will become significantly less [censored] when this redevelopment is complete. The idea is not to build a stadium in isolation, but to incorporate it into a new neighborhood if you'd like, which is being planned for the area (another opportunity for Melbourne in terms of community growth perhaps). At around $4 million a pop for water-frontage property, the word shithole just won't be applicable anymore.

What they are proposing is a little like the Wees & Poos have at Waverley...just without the big stand. It will have associated facilities, profesional suites etc. and hopefully a decent cafe so the boys can continue with their Skinny Lattes !!

I'm quite pleasantly surprised by the comments from Melbourne Mayor Robert Doyle (he is a Cats supporter I think?).

If the Demons can have a PERMANENT training ground (during the Winter) that we can use at the Docklands which is the SAME size as the MCG then that would be fantastic!

Personally I would just call the local community team the Dockland Demons to continue the Melbourne connection. No point calling them the Dragons!

I'm all for this,having a summer base out at Casey where there are 29,000 kids that we need to tap into and a winter base in the heart of Melbourne with state of the art training and recovery facilities.

It could also be on the land opposite the wheel, where the rail yards/infrastructure is. I work there and know we have to move as it`s being developed in a few years. Also right next to Nth Melb station - ideal spot.

This was raised by Cameron Schwab earlier this year as our own version of Lexus/Waverley. We'd train once a week at Casey (as in the Agreement) but have our own centre where we'd train at all other times, and build a social club etc. This is why the Bubbledome agreement is on a rolling five year basis. In 5 years time the Docklands will be build and we'll be in.

This is not a proposition for playing home games anywhere other than the G.

I could be wrong but I believe it might have been the previous administration that signed. I think Mfc tried to backtrack through Schwab (new admin), however the agreement was in place.

You are correct Tower on this issue, and we only signed on for 5 years with an option for another 5 but what I find amazing is how fast this club is moving on long and short term agenda's if we end up at the docklands in 5 years time we will indeed have the the best of both worlds with elite training facilities within the state, I believe this club will no longer be laughed at by the AFL or other clubs in the next few years and how sweet it will be.

However, I will believe it when I see it - and when it's all done. It's been far too long. It will be 'sweet', but I'm not one for celebrating just yet, until it's complete and our players can indulge themselves in high performance development under their own "very" state-of-the-art facility and under their own roof.

At the moment there is only initial or preliminary discussion coming from Robert Doyle.

The MOPT development is fine in the short term, however there is not enough room already for the complete MFC staff roster. There will inevitably be a Melbourne Rugby Union team playing in the Super Whatever and they will require space in the MOPT. The State government and the City Council can see that the users of the new rectangular stadium should be the ones in the MOPT development. We committed to the development as a condition of its getting of the ground and must take residence there or pay a prohibitive fine. If the AFL, the State government and the City Council have to build a new facility to free up the space we are occupying, great. If they want us to move somewhere before the new facility is ready, we are in a very good bargaining position; possession is nine tenths of the law.

And if the Docklands project is just pie-in-the-sky rubbish then why is the $1m such an issue? Obviously if this is the case we'll stay at MRS and the cost will be justified... if not, well, Doyle is proposing it'd be free to us anyway.

$1m is a small price to pay to finally upgrade our training facilities.

Bubbledome..(MOPT ) is simply inadequate and a poor compromise going forward. What we were to have and whatwe now get are two different things.

The Red and Blue Foundation was setup to help the club invest in facilities that would help the club and its players improve.

Will we raise the money for the Docklands adventure?

Personally, I can't wait to give more money for temporary training bases, because I am a poor investor.
