Further, I do agree with Mr Morton, Melbourne aren't good enough to tank! If Melbourne lose, they should lose trying, not deliberately giving it away. I personally don't think Melbourne are good enough to win too many games for the rest of the year, and chances are will still finish on the bottom. But I don't think it's good enough to tank.

Plus, given your comments on the midfield and defense, they are a very young, developing side. They can only improve.

I have to say reading this thread has annoyed me no end. I hate the thought of supporters hoping we lose. I know it's symtomatic of a crap system which rewards bad performance, but sheesh, a team that's good enough to be in the AFL should always play to win.

I don't believe MFC would "TANK" for picks, we're too PROUD for that. I Don't think i want to be associated on the same page as Carltank.

Bailey and the ENTIRE playing team will always be playing to win. We proved this when we bet Carltank. Proofs in the pudding.

LIST MANAGEMENT is an interesting view to take. At the moment in the public eye, NO ONE is really expecting MFC to win 1 if anymore games. (AFL Reporters, Commentators, Demonland Members are excluded from the list) Wouldn't really worry anyone if we did play a few more up and coming players, would seem as a positive.

I expect every player to put in 110% to WIN as soon as he dons his jumper. Any player otherwise doesn't deserve to be playing.

We dont honestly need to tank. Its a misnomer.

However we are going to play sides during the rest of the year who will definitely be tanking.

We are clearly the worst side in the competition. We need the access to the best young players.

The issue that stinks is the AFL rules. And we should be playing to manufacture the best possible outcome for the Club for the future. And it is not a series of meaningless wins against half hearted clubs seeking to improve their draft position at the junk end of the season.

One thing I would say is that those advocating altering the best 22 to minimise the chance of winning cannot criticise Bailey for his win/loss record.

I mentioned this earlier but I'll say it again: it is up to PA to turn up, we will be there for two or three quarters but they are a better team and should beat us.

Like that ridiculous WB win in 2007, the other team was poor and it cost us (although considering the close finishes we lost in early 2007, it's debateable whether we deserved a PP).

I agree that we have to look long term, but the short term solution is equally as damaging. Poor performing sides don't get the memberships and don't get the sponsorship deals.

Jim was extremely successful in campaigning for these for this year, but how long is that going to last if we deliberately lose games? We also still have a massive debt, which won't be fixed if the club loses the support of its members through poor performance.

I would be furious and disgusted if we didn't put our balls on the line as a club, and did everything in our power to make sure we get picks 1 & 2. If we "list manage" and still win, so be it, but manipulation off the field should take place as early as this week.

Note that on the field I expect our players to play in their designated positions and put in their best performance each and every week, but I hope that the coaches manipulate team selection and matchday tactics to reduce our likelihood of winning (i.e.- put Davey on the bench during crucial moments in the game, try new roles, don't tag opposition players etc...).

To miss out on the two best kids in the country, particularly in light of what will happen to the draft in the coming years, for the sake of an extra one or two largely meaningless wins, is a costly and weak attitude to have.

Winning culture is a load of crap IMO. Look at where St Kilda are at now that their early picks are at their peak. Hasn't really hurt their winning ability either. When you are a good enough side, you win games. When you are a club in our position, crying out for talent, you take full advantage of a system which, while flawed, is set out to help struggling clubs. It is there for a reason and we should get maximum use of it before it is too late.

I am getting a good laugh out of this thread. We will not win 5 games this year. We have beaten a rabble that was Richmond after jumping them and having them nearly steal it, and we have beaten a team that has now lost 18 in a row on the road, and even then I wonder how much of it was us running on emotion. It's not that we are that bad a team but we just struggle to play 4 quarters due to youth and inexperience. The PP's are safe without us needing to tweak things.

They've got too much to play for. Even if they don't bring their A grade, their B and C games are probably better than where we are at at the moment.
