Personally i believe we cant afford to carry Jones, mclean, and Moloney three players that bass their game the same way as each other, both in and under players that lack speed. But if one had to be traded or wouldnt want to be the one to choose.

YOUR CHOICES are SPOT ON i agree completely

our midfield has been what is killing us every single week yet they NEVER CHANGE IT they blame the forwards for not getting goals, but do we have any reliable midfields aside from Davey who can deliver good passes? NO

Some really smart suggestions here............so we trade off / retire our current midfield.....so who then plays in there.

Don't say trade players without coming up with alternatives...........it shows a genuine lack of imagination, and also isn't even being remotely realistic!

Wow. Unbelievably stupid and pathetically topical post.

Bruce to retire? Have you watched him at all this season? We all know he can't kick, but he's in our top 5 this year for B&F.

You should add this post to every other "insert least-favourite players names here" thread we've had the first 11 rounds this year. MFC fans like you make me sick.

Silvia: maybe he is worth something??? Get something while we can? - If you mean Sylvia then no. He's finally showing consistancy.

McClean: Does not measure up..anyone want him?? my guess no - If you mean McLean then no. Does great inside work. Just needs good outsiders.

Jones: too slow for the pick he came at who needs him..Subiaco? - If the pick was right maybe.

Bate: not worth a trade - Who else do we have to play forward?

Bell; Read above -wouldn't get a tin of baked beans for him.

Moloney: love him but if tradeable we should (geelong?) - Never. He's finally fit and plays more good games than not.

Retire NOW

Welan - If you mean Whelan then yep, but sadly.

Robbo - Still need him IMO. We have no other options

mc Donald - Yep, but again sadly.

Bruce - He might butcher it but he gets more than enough of it to make up for it.

PJ can go. Not a ruckman and doesn't use it well enough as a rover.

TRADE: Bell, Buckley, Dunn (all to improve 2nd/3rd round draft pick)

RETIRE: McDonald, Wheatley, Whelan

PROMOTE: Valentti

DRAFT PICKS: 1, 2, 2nd round, 3rd round, pick 1 PSD.

Demonsg,

You are an idiot. Syliva is EXACTLY the type of player we need in the midfield, and is finally starting to play like we know he can. Were you even watching against coll?? If it werent for him we would have been belted by 15 goals. 30 plus touches mostly effective, 3 goals and half a dozen contested marks. Ditto game against hawthorn

Moron.

Players that we might be saying goodbye to at seasons end are mcdonald, whelan, wheatley, newton, bell, one of bate and dunn, PJ, robertson and dare i say it bartram.

I have the feeling that Bruce and Green will play at least one more season.

Retire at end of the year:

McDonald, Whelan, Wheatley, Robertson

Delist:

Bell, Newton

Bate= lots of potential and already has top5 in B&F... no way delist.

Dunn, Bartram, Buckly etc to be kept on as important depth...

Agree with your list. I am not sure that they will pay Newton out but its possible.

However I reckon PJ and Buckley are strong contenders to be let go in addition to the names you have got.

Gone: Bell, Wheately, Whelan, Mcdonald, Robertson

Sylvia, Moloney and Mclean are 3 of our top 4 players.

Green and Bruce will stay. Newton won't be delisted. Either will Dunn. I still don't know why Newton isn't playing in our team. He is just one of those players that I rate that no-else does. Like I rate Wheately and rated Ward in his day because he ran the lines and had a nice long accurate kicks. Oh well, stick with Brad Miller and see how far you get. We currently have a first rate Key forward on our list and we aren't even playing him. wtf! I just dont get it. anyway, end of rant

I still remain confused as to why posters think we have any value at the trade table besides the kids under 24. I can only think of Davey and by a stretch on his current form Sylvia as having trade potential. Players like Green, Bruce are two old and would be used by clubs for a final title at a flag but we see this less and less these days (Sydney are really the only side that look to trade to keep them from bottoming out, not sure how long it will take for the bottom to drop out of there list though with so many players in the late 20's early 30's on there list). Players like Newton, Dunn, Bell etc are struggling for a game in the bottom team in the comp and have shown nothing for most of there careers, why would other teams want them especially with tis being the last season for a long while with a "clean" draft?????? Boggles mind.. mine.

I think you'll find that Bell has another year on his contract, so unless you want to pay that out, the team may have to keep him. i think that whoever said you wouldn't get a can of beans for him perhaps doesn't read the market very well. Perhaps the best thing for the Demons, and for Bell is to trade him... then again, perhaps in a different team, he could be a different player....

Ward was anything but an accurate kick. His run was negated by his penchant for kicking indiscrimantly and turnover the ball.

And Wheatley has shown little in 2 VFL games that he is pushing for AFL selection.

Newton's skills are negated by limitations above the shoulder. If he really nails at VFL level, he should be given another go at AFL level. But that cat would be on his last life if he stuffs it again.

does no one remember the talk that went around about him at the crows, although it was after he'd re-signed. i know a lot of people around here don't think he's any good, and constantly attack his awareness, but he's played 2 games for the season. no-one can switch straight back on after being out for almost half a season. give him (and everyone else for that matter) some time. all the chopping and changing every week does no one any good. pick your team and let them play. they can't do much worse.

i honestly think that Bell would get a game in many other sides (call me naive or stupid if you will). IMHO, Bell does get caught sometimes, but so do a lot of others. maybe rather than attacking the guy who puts his head over the ball and gets caught with it, we should be having a go at the guy standing just off to the side, not communicating, and waiting for the easy stat.. (would be so easy to name some of those slack, stat racking up players, but i wont).

like i said, perhaps Bell would be better off somewhere else... but hindsight is a wonderful thing and can often bite you in the ass.

limitation above the shoulders? are u referring to his overhead marking? if so, thats the last thing you should be bringing up when referring to Newton. He is a great overhead mark. If Watts can get a game after 22 soft touches in the vfl then newton should get promoted after taking 5 contested marks a week, 18 or so touches and several goals a week. Not to mention his chasing and tackling. I still maintain he is a 50+ goal a year forward. Has no flaws. His kicking isnt even a flaw..its a great asset of his that simply is a bit out of form.

This is our prob at the moment, a player who gets it 25+ times but does not use it that well all the time is in our top 5, Ina few years time he will be between 8 - 15 in our B&F then we will be a contender.

Ward was anything but an accurate kick. His run was negated by his penchant for kicking indiscrimantly and turnover the ball.

I so agree with this, Ward got it, ran 10 meters and belted it as long as he could anywhere.

I think Newton's problems are above his shoulders- and RR was not referring to his overhead marking but his brain - he doesn't have one.

When you consistently miss shots from around the goal square and kick checksides from 8m out then i would suggest kicking IS perhaps a problem.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out Newton.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
