Yze_Magic 3 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 This is just a general question. I would like to get people opinions on what the highest paid player at a footy club should be capable of, and/or expected to do. For me, a clubs highest paid player should - - have above average skills, at worst - be able to lift his teammate and put the team on his back. - be able to read the game and not make pathetic decisions regularly, ie. hand balling to a teammate under pressure, holding the ball to long and getting pinged or having their kick smothered... - be the face of the club - put his body on the line and show some balls Would be interesting to go through all 16 clubs and list the highest paid player, and see where they stand. Opinions please.
Bring-Back-Powell 15,578 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 You've got me YM. Bruce was ineffective today. But we need him next week to stem the bleeding. Please Bailey, play him as a lead up fwd and replace Bate.
Yze_Magic 3 Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 I never named anyone. I asked a General question. Please discuss.
Carn dees 108 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 perform in there best week in week out regardless given hes 100% rarely should he be under performing.
PeterJames 46 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Handballing blindly because he doesnt want to take a tackle..... Has been wearing a skirt since been tackled by guerra in 05...

I would like to get people opinions on what the highest paid player at a footy club should be capable of, and/or expected to do. For me, a clubs highest paid player should - - have above average skills, at worst (he does. His kicking was not bad today, on a day where over 70& of players were kicking floaters every time they got their hands on it. His handballing I admit, is below par.) - be able to lift his teammate and put the team on his back.[b] (I think his efforts do lift the team. No better example than 28 minutes into the last qtr, the game over and the team unable to win, he puts himself on the line and dives to make a smother in the forward 50, forcing the ball out of bounds.) - be able to read the game and not make pathetic decisions regularly, ie. hand balling to a teammate under pressure, holding the ball to long and getting pinged or having their kick smothered...(I do agree that his decision making has been questionable, however he is often the recipient of the ball when he is under immense pressure in the first place. I think his decision making would improve, and he would get caught less if his teammates didn't give him "hospital handballs".) - be the face of the club (certaintly is one of them. Is in the media probably more than any other player at the club and holds himself well.) - put his body on the line and show some balls (lays more tackles than 70% of the team. See his stats from last year, where I think he led tackling. Never squibs a contest). Would be interesting to go through all 16 clubs and list the highest paid player, and see where they stand. Opinions please.

45HG 1,559 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I have come to expect it from ours, unfortunately. I almost jumped the fence today, his decision-making, for a leader, is at times disgusting
Jaded No More 68,976 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Bruce works very hard each and every game, he is just not a very good footballer. That's reality, and it's time to accept it and move on. He isn't the best, he isn't the worst. He is average, but he'll continue to play for us as long as he is putting in the required effort because put simply, we need experience and players who can run all day.
H_T 3,049 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I never named anyone. I asked a General question. Please discuss. SHould expect quality in return. In short.
stevenDEMON 0 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 the only thing they should do is drop half his pay(if he don't like it then f%#k off), then front end load some of the younger players contracts. This would leave big openings in our cap for a star player when we are ready to strike

Allen Jakovich 519 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Handballing blindly because he doesnt want to take a tackle..... Has been wearing a skirt since been tackled by guerra in 05... Spot on mate. Unfortunately Bruce has never recovered from that tackle. I still remember it vividly. The sound his body made when Guerra crunched it into the turf. The look on his face. He has tried his heart out ever since but unfortunately he lost his fearlessness that day and therefore will never return to his best pre-tackle, which was phenomenal. Jeff White is another who suffered post-significant hit syndrome from when he got kicked in the head by Steven King and his jaw almost came off. I fear for Greeny... Despite the above, Bruce is still a great player and I hope that as the players around his rise in confidence so may he. One of his kicks tonight in the final quarter, to Dunn in the forward flank, was glorious.
Jarka 767 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 So, who is our highest paid player? It's actually a very, very difficult question to answer.

Yze_Magic 3 Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 So, who is our highest paid player? It's actually a very, very difficult question to answer. No, its not.
Jarka 767 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 No, its not. Ok sunshine, I'll play your little game. Who is it then and what evidence do you have other than the voices in your head?

Toot182 7 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I fully believe that the highest paid player in ANY club should: Have Captain like qualities (n.b. doesn't have to be captain) That is; - lead from the front. - consistently perform at the highest level, week in, week out, regardless of his teams result. - stand up and perform when he is needed the most. - provide support and guidance for younger players in said club - be a team player

Show some passion for the club 7. Get to training on time 8. Not break team curfew 9. Anything else I have missed If, purchance, you are targetting Bruce , he meets 5/6 of your criteria (and all of mine); that's 4/5 more than Sylvia. Hahahahahahahahaha
Bobby McKenzie 2,408 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 So, who is our highest paid player? It's actually a very, very difficult question to answer. Yze Magic has not got a CLUE as to who is our highest paid player. Over the years he has pulled figures out of the sky which have sometimes had a range of $100 grand. One time it was $450,000 then later it was $550.000! NO ONE knows the exact payments except the parties concerned. He has been on about this for countless years. YAWN!!!
