Did pringle hit a raw nerve or 10? Simple premise: "how many he would kick if he played a full season with Geelong"

"It is inane to suggest that Newton would kick less goals in a Geelong side than he has been able to in mediocre Melbourne line-ups." - Agreed.

The willingness to derisively carp on this thread and Newton is disappointing.

Trident, I believe this is a far more simple premise:

Newton - Not good enough for the wooden spooners, therefore not good enough for a team that has won 44 of 47, therefore he would not kick any goals.

He wouldn't get a game there.

He wouldn't even be on their list, unlike us who reward him with a 2 year extension.

I actually quite like the topic as a hypothetical. Yes, it's completely hypothetical, but it makes you use your own imagination and really think about how being in a strong team can influence individual results.

Personally I think that Newton, playing as a deep third tall forward, would probably slot a goal or two a game. I'd say that he'd kick about 30, but with their delivery and couple of blow outs through the year 40 odd goals would not be completely out of the question. Even when he plays for Melbourne he still finds a way to kick a goal or so a game, even when he's playing like rubbish (1.5 goals a game last year - extrapolated = 33 goals in a 22 game season). Hell, Matthew Stokes, kicked 38 goals for Geelong last year! They share the goals around a lot.

Pringle asked an interesting question and most people haven't answered it. If you don't care about the question, don't respond. But if you don't have an interest in hypotheticals don't tell us the reasons why it won't happen - after all, it's a hypothetical!!!

Well put bob. That's what I've been trying to say. Clearly some people here hate newton and care little for his abiliy. But all I asked was how many goals he would kick if he got a game. Must have hit a very raw nerve. I never said he was a champion, nor was I looking through "rose coloured glasses". I just have a feeling he'd be good for 2 goals a game in a better side plus the odd 3-5 goal bag IF he got a game each week. Whether he would get a game or not is a different question. Though I admit that this too is worthy of discussion here, but probably after at least having a go at answering the hypothetical question rather than dismissing it as a possibility.

This is a silly thread. It doesn't matter if he played 22 games for geelong he is not strong enough to hold his ground, does not chase and cannot mark when there is pressure on him regardless of which team is putting it down his throat if you are not up to afl standard that's it and I do not think at the moment Newton is. He just looks disinterested all the time and his second efforts are non existant. Maybe I sound harsh but that is a frank assessment of Newton in my opinion and I dont think it would change if he was playing for another club.

I agree with a fair bit of what has been said about Newton. I picked 0-20 because I reckon if he did play 22 games for geelong he would only get about 15 goals in a year. The other geelong forwards demand the ball comes to them by good leads and solid pack marking strength. Newton has not showed enough of either in the games that he has played. he wouldn't get many goals beacuse the other geelong players would not see him as a good avenue to goal with his current form.

So how many goals would he kick?

I think he would kick maximum 15 as all the other forwards would be better options. He just does not know where to lead and so often gets spoiled as he is right on the boundary.

That's a good reply total. By all means bag the crap out of him if you want, but at least you answered the question.

Pringle, the actual question you posted is "How many goals would Newton kick in a season if he played for Geelong?"

Answering that you don't think he would play at all is a response

I think he would be good for 40-50. I have seen enough talent in him to average 2 goals a game given the quality and quantity of Geelongs inside 50's.

I haven't given up on him yet.

This thread has assumed a "follow the leader" status. WE universally condemn the Mallinder Bros but hop in for our chop to stick the boots into Newton. It is inane to suggest that Newton would kick less goals in a Geelong side than he has been able to in mediocre Melbourne line-ups.

If he was able to play 22 games as a Demon, on the basis of what he's been able to produce so far, he'd kick 31 goals so I'd expect he'd do 40 easy with Geelong even with his alleged pea-heart, laziness and intellectual challenges.

Perhaps we could run a poll for how many hours community work Jessie Mallinder will get. Or how many reasons his solicitor gives for him being hard done by the world. I'll start the ball rolling with 2 hours paid community work with 7 excuses.

80+ a year, easy. Now if only we can convince Geelong of that, and maybe they'll pay a hefty price. Three first round draft picks and Gary Ablett Jr should just about cover it. Real answer to the hypothetical: If we ignore all reality altogether and pretend he plays 22 games, I wouldn't expect a return of any more than 30 goals, probably less. I just don't think the guy can play football.
Good response Nasher

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D
