Melbourne Brand Whats It Worth

Look I read this comment elsewhere on the site and felt I did not want to take that thread off-topic. However, felt strongly enough to start a new thread.

Reality again! The exposure and brand weakness is significant.

If a entity wanted an financially stricken club with limited exposure on TV (big issue), limited upside (at least this year), little recent history of success, small supporter base with no regional/community connection then we could be good value.

And there is the global financial crisis.

Our situation and circumstances are far more dire than Hawthorn's ever was.

"Reality" = you play the cards you are given.

"The exposure and brand weakness is significant." Depends if the glass is half full or half empty. This is the sort of comment I would expect from the so called "independent media" short of content for a positive news story. Dont know if you have noticed but we are still called the Melbourne Football Club, if our brand is weak then so must Sydney, Brisbane & Adelaide in our national competition.

In the Australia Football League we are still the only club is the competition that can offer a sponsor the founding member of the competitions brand ie "Melbourne"

"financially stricken club" - The competition is designed to be cyclic. Tell me not that long ago what were Geelong & Hawthorns financial positions? Lets throw the Blues & Tigers in there for good measures.

"limited exposure on TV (big issue)" - limited is a very subjective term. A CEO of a company that had no national TV exposure ... the MFC would look a very attractive proposition.

"limited upside (at least this year)" - sort term thinking - big mistake. Melbourne has only one way to go ... UP!

"little recent history of success" - define recent ... last five minutes. All clubs start the season in an equal position. Now if you want to quote last season ... yip you got me there. But then I want to quote a few seasons ago!

"small supporter base" - Mate we got 20,000 active paid up members (& growing daily) plus uncounted supporters. Mate some companies would dream of access to that type of loyal supporter base. There in lies the key! How can we deliver them extra "bang for their bucks"

"no regional/community connection" - in accurate comment

"And there is the global financial crisis." - Rightly or wrongly for everybody losing a $ somebody can be making one. Last time I read a treasury forcast its worst prediction was 7% unemployment or that equates to 93% employment. Not all is lost! Or as Warren Buffet says " now is the time to buy" ... you get the best bargains when all others are talking doom and gloom.

IMHO ... lets look on the positive side. Sadly the alternative is not a viable option!

Very well said.

Too many people prepared to offer obvious negative commentary - a very slow moving target as the club bottoms out prior to our next upswing.

Not enough people, very few in fact, are able to offer positive constructive solutions.

Hear hear.

"offer obvious negative commentary", No, not negative commentary, constructive critique.

They said this to encourage us to change things for our own good. Opposition don't love us nor hate us enough, they all just like us, not enough emotion regarding the good ol' DEES to get people to our games. And no grass roots tribalism to jump, yell 'n' scream @ matches.

We could take a leaf from the Tiges book on this.

If we don't change this very important issue our club Will Die.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
