Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Let's not forget about Cale Morton.

Everybody throw some salt over your shoulder, knock on wood, cross fingers, knees and toes and anything else you can think of.

Please, please please never mention those 3 when talking about us getting an exciting KPP forward. I prefer exciting forwards who aren't crippled by injury. Now excuse me, I've gotta get the salt.

All I am hoping to see is talent, self belief, spirit and determination.

Some of the best times as a fan, a rebuild. I reckon a Hawks' fan's heart would swell a bit when they talk about Franklin, Sewell, Birchall and others that at different times were maligned, but that came out to do what they did. It's great getting on at the ground floor... ANd it doesn't get much more "ground floor" than where we are now.

( though this never happens at the MFC)

And when it does, no-one writes about it the way they do other clubs' players.

then we might actually see some names near the top of brownlow betting and on AA team sheets. We need this to happen.

We need this to happen about 5 times over.

Thanks for proving my point, how long ago did all that happen?

So what was your point? That we have recruited ONE KP forward (who we don't even know will become a key forward), and suddenly were on the right track? Oh and you forgot Neitz and Lyon... Neitz was recruited in the same drive Ox was, and was always going to play both ends.

God it was so long ago I've forgotten....no wait...I've got it.

My point was that it's been so long since we've drafted a talented key forward who has shown alot of underage potential, it has to be exciting for the club. Added to that the genuine talent of the other forwards we have ie Maric, Wona & Davey and now we can add Jurrah to the list. Jurrah looks like he could be absolute anything, we've never had a kid like this on our list before.

The last time we had this sort of talent come into our forward line was when we had Lyon, Schwartz and Jakovich, that's a bloody long time ago.

Thats a fair point, but what I find more exciting is the quality, be it based on the reports at this stage for some, of the midfield group coming through. I can't remember ever being as excited about a group of players as the young bregade in the middle of which CM is a big part. lets remember Lyon, Schwartz, Jakovich, Pike, Charles etc in this era were only as good as the blokes sending it down to them. Viney, Lovett(s), Tingays etc. I am so excited we may in a few years have a midfield that rivals or is better then this era........ then hopefully our forward line develops as well and we will once again be a power in the comp.

I wouldn't get too excited about Jurrah as a key position prospect - his draft profile read that he played below his height, and was more of a leading and crumbing Micky'O type player

[/quoteif hes half as good as micky we will be laughing, i love watchin him play hes a dead set champion .

Well no, but we've had players with more, what's the word, oomph than him. Farmer's a good example. I know Jurrah's a taller guy, but as far as I'm concerned a couple of seconds of youtube footage, and some x-factor is not enough to get me excited in the least.

Also, just recruiting Schwartz, Lyon, Neitz and Jakovich means next to nothing. Look how many premierships they brought us? See my point? There's just SO much more water to come under the bridge. But I will give you this: At least the FIRST steps (i.e. recruiting) we are taking seem to be strong ones, in the right direction.

It's not that I DON'T rate Micky O... but if he played at MFC without a Hall to take the biggest and best defender, he'd have been a VERY small name. I'm not saying he's [censored], I'd say he's a good player, but to use the word champion with that guy is a bit rich. Champion at the Swans, perhaps, but not a champion of the AFL. Nowhere near it.

Please remind me of the last time Melbourne recruited an exciting Key forward.

It kinda annoys me a little when people write these replies...(edit: this comment was tongue in cheek, after rereading it i realised it came across too harsh, please take it in the way it was meant and don't take offence)

i see jurrah developing as a 3rd tall. i see him playing as the third tall but with the ground level skills and forward pressure that flash applied in his first year. There's no doubt that is a mouth watering prospect. we've now got watts penned in as a future CHF but i still think we need a big FF, who is able to take a strong contested mark to cap it off. boys like bate and maric and davey (who i think plays his best footy as a small forward inside 50 occaisionally up on the forward flanks) can play around these blokes and that i think is a potent combination. I must say in this image i do not see room for newton. and i suppose for the time being miller will have to fill the role. i do think he plays his best footy as a lead up CHF though. but that's a side note. there may not be room for him in future either.

Honestly i'm not sold on wona. don't get me wrong, i loved watching the pure excitement he got from kicking a goal. those celebrations were fantastic! and i was in tears when he turned it on against freo. so proud of the whole team... but im not sure he's quick enough or gets enough of the ball to influence to many games. i do hope he proves otherwise. i'm probably being a bit unfair there though. i guess i kinda compare small forwards up against farmer at his best. he really could take a game apart in 5 minutes. I'll never forget him kicking 9 goals in a half against collingwood.

And as this thread was originally about Morton i see him playing a TJ role. roming the wings and delivering into the forward line. He's got a huge motor on him and can run all day. i think to utilise his strenghts in this department is the way to go.

Anyways thats my 2 cents worth.

Enter one John Butcher. He epitomises the true FF player.

Bate better start getting his arse into gear pretty quickly too. As he will be vying for the same position as Watts and Miller.

yep i agree with you. i reckon we're one more year of pain away before we make real progress. The lure of Butcher i think would make it all worth it too. that really would be a potent forward line.

Any chance Watts will be a HFF or a wing maybe a bit like Hird although he played juniors at FF at the state level everyone thought he could play anywhere

Who knows what Watts is capable of. i can't say i've seen a hell of a lot of him. I would love it if he turns out to be one of the greats like Hird, but there is a lot of water to go under the bridge. I'm sure time will tell where his best position is.

If we were in a position to have the luxury of playing Watts as a floating forward we'd be in a very, very strong position.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
