Carlton feels sorry for us!

One is the loneliest number

Some are saying that this is the best and deepest draft in the past seven years, if not in the entire history of the AFL draft and Carlton recruiting manager Wayne Hughes who has only one pick between 1 and 40 feels sorry for his counterparts over at Melbourne which has pick 1 and another three picks before the Blues' second selection.

Suffer!

who cares. i didnt feel sorry for them when they finished last 3 years in a row. id like it to happen more often. bunch of cheating bastards

They would rather pick 6 than pick 1?

Are they trying to justify to their members why they didn't get the number 1 pick again this year?

So he'd "certainly rather pick 6 than pick 1". What a croc and if it's true, I'm glad he's not at Melbourne.

All golfers want to make the putt that determines a victory in a major. They don't want the outcome in their competitors hands.

Any recruiter worth his salt would want to be making the ultimate call.

I took what he was saying is that in his mind there is no clear number one this year (although I disagree) whereas the years they had the number 1 picks Murphy and Gibbs were clearcut top picks and last year was really either Kreuzer or Cotchin. All the better for us I say its just up to us to get it right.

If he is serious about the burden of having to choose No. 1, why did they resort to cheating to achieve it??

I would say that is fairly true, but you would have to wager nearly every recruiter would take Watts if they were holding the no.1 card - of course the other side of the coin is that if this draft is so deep then our pick 17 + 19 count for much more than they would have in the previous few years.. you could actually argue this is the ideal year for us to have these picks. Next year's haul will be juicier than a ripe orange and we will have just as good a bunch as the blue-baggers - we will have 5 or 6 top5 picks and another 14 or 15 in the top20. I'm not complaining.

This is why Carlton have such a sh1te recruiting record.

"I'd certainly rather be picking at six than one – it's a pretty good field this year."

Possibly the dopiest comment of all time.

Ever since they cheated and got number 1 pick last year + stopped us from getting pick 2 this year, they are in the gun.

a Few injuries to that team, and they will be tanking before you know it.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
