The next person to suggest Davey should be traded...

Should be banned!!!!

On a serious note, what is the point of trading the only player on the list who has a combination of pace and skill as well as that X factor that brings the MFC fans to their feet. Think of those special goals against Freo in the big comeback.

Aside from McLean, Davey is the only player that has the potential to be in the top 50 in the AFL. Yes he has his injury issues, but is a player that excites the MFC fanbase and must be retained.

Who agrees that Davey is an untouchable? (unless ofcourse Port offered pick 4)

Very touchable!

TRADE HIM if he can get us a pick 4, 5 or 6. Even if he has to be packaged with Pick 19 or another player.

Haha :|

I'd trade him tomorrow, make it monday, for a top 20 pick.

......

His last 2 years have been ordinary in the sense he has not had a big impact on games (generally) when he has played. He's 25 on Monday - should be at his peak for a mid/small forward.

He's got 1 yr of contract remaining, so he needs a big year in 2009.

I'd trade him for the right deal (player or pick), but not at any price.

Having said that, I don't think he's on the table. Connolly has been quoted as saying that MFC targeted Alwyn Davey & Robert Warnock because we have their brothers playing with us, and we know them pretty well.

and who would replace the pace, sensational goal kicking and immaculate passes that we'd be losing.

You're intoxicated by a couple of flashy things he does a game, but he brings no substance. He's never stood up in a Final or big game. Even his forward defensive pressure has disappeared.

Did his B&F placing interest you ?

You clearly don't see the irony in suggesting - albeit jokingly - that the next person to suggest Davey be traded should be banned, asserting that Davey is untouchable, and then admitting you would trade him.

no way...morton could, garland could, rivers (if fit) could..just to name a few...even watts could

i thought he stood up against the saints in 06

He had to stand up against the Saints, he almost cost us the game

His only moment was a nice pass to Neitz at the Punt Road end after a dash along the boundary line on the Member's side in the second half. He'd been terrible in the first. And he didn't do much after.

That's not 'standing up'.

He could well be on the table now with Alwyn commiting to the Don's. The brother's can and should be playing together.

At Essendon for Pick 5.

Green can join him in that deal!

Crap.

But doesn't that principle apply to nearly all our players.

There are precious few that would be regarded as "untouchable", but even fewer that would get us anything near what we probably think they are worth.

The reality is that of course Davey, like Green and probably some like Sylvia, Bell, Johnson, maybe even Rivers could be put up or at least flirted with, but the likelihood of us actually get what we want and think we deserve for them, in a deal that means we lose some of our more experienced and classy (for want of a better word) players, even as a package, is still pretty slim. And that reality seems to not live here in great quantities at this time of year.

I have no issue sacrificing some of our players to get better options for the future, but there has to be some guarantee of the better part of that equation.

And Alwyn Davey just resigned with the Bombers.

I think you have killed that horse, but please keep on flogging <_< ......

Davey will not be going anywhere.

Green is the most likely player to be traded. Unlikely to see both Green and Davey traded in the same trade period. The dees will be hunting for picks no doubt, but their will be limitations on just how many star players the dees move.

More likely to see some middle tier players (dunn, wheats) moved for middle-late picks than the dees shipping all their stars for early round picks.

Green and Davey ...star players???? :o

What pick would that be?

If I could get a pick early enough to get Tyrone Vickery or Jack Ziebell, I would package Davey with Green or Rivers or Bell to Port or Essendon for 4 or 5.

Alternatively I'd accept a pick in the order of 8 - 12 straight out for Aaron.

both green and aaron individually are worth a pick from 8-12.

in a package you'd bloody hope we got pick 4 for both of them and perhaps something else- almost two best players

Youv'e got rocks in your head if you think Green is worth better than 16 in this draft.

well i do because 16 of them are untrialled players that haven't played AFL. Green is almost a 200 game player and has about 2, possibly 3 good years left in him. now for a club who doesnt need draft picks- carlton, st kilda, collingwood, richmond- i reckon he could be avery good proposition. Green IMO by himself is worth 8-12

The suggestion that Davey is worth pick 4 is ludicrous and just plain stupid. In fact, the suggestion that anyone on Melbourne's list is worth anything better than pick 16 is dumb.

I just don't see clubs offering anything of worth to us. His value's about as low as it could be. We'd lose out in most possible deals.

To the right club, Green is worth a first round pick. I'm thinking Sydney, especially if they lose O'Keefe. If they get a 1st round pick for O'Keefe, they could pass that straight on to us for Green.

He would be a good get for any of the top 8.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
