Trade Pick 1 for 3 with Fremantle for Warnock

Heard again on the radio this morning that the rumour is growing that Melbourne is strongly considering trading it's number 1 pick to Fremantle for pick 3, in an attempt to lure Robert Warnock, under the understanding that both Fremantle and West Coast have the preference 1 - Naitanui and 2 - Rich, leaving Melbourne free to choose Watts with pick 3, hence securing Fremantle Naitanui with pick 1.

The risk / reward of this trade is unprecedented I believe, and I for one think we should jump in heads first...

What do we think?

I reckon we go for it! I don't want to see bloody Carltank take another player away from us.

It all depends also on west coast & Freo and us getting Watts.

Yeah, what the hell, take a risk, be bold, take the game on - DO IT.

Worst case scenario we still get the ruckman we want & a very very good player that is ready to play senior footy round 1 next year.

(In fact, i think worst case scenario is that we end up with a project player with funny hair and a big leap)

It's been fairly well noted in the west (Not necessarily accurately) that they both want the WA boys first; we could essentially snare a player for nothing without losing our number 1 preference.

Could be the even break we have been waiting for!

Warnock thread..happy reading

Suggest you read all this.. I think most every permutation and outcome have been covered ;)

Yeah........ just one thing - is it even close to being worth it for Freo?

Its a hell of a lot to give up - a promising ruckman that you could get players or draft picks for - only so you can move up 2 places in the draft to ensure you can pick a player you could easily end up getting anyway..

I know Freo are a bit stupid in the trades department, but they aren't that foolish... are they?

For our sake - i hope so.

See my thread "Pick 1 what is it worth". If someone knows how to link it, feel free to do so.

pick 1..worth ....

as you wish

Can't see Freo going for it unless Carlton only offer something ridiculous.

Freo need not to be mindful not only of quality, but also quantity. Trading pick 3 and Warnock for pick 1 leaves yet another hole to plugged at the end of the draft. I'd rather get Carlton's second rounder and a reasonable young player than upgrade pick 3. There is plenty of talent in the draft, and Freo will have the opportunity to get a very good player at pick 3 regardless of where Naitanui goes.

seriously who cares about warnock! the bloke think he is a superstar now that he is getting all this media hype! he had his chance to pick us yet he put money over family which meaning playing with his brother!

id happily watch spencer develop

Here, here. Spencer has one thing that Warnock doesn't have and that's sheer aggression at the football. You can't buy that - not even for 400k pa

We should sign Petterd and Spencer for three years to avoid the Gold Coast problem.

We just signed up petterd about 4 weeks ago, not too sure about Spencers situation with his contract

what we've been thinking all along- we dont lose anything, and freo would do it i reckon- we can match and better any deal carlton give..have we met with freo yet??? i hear dwe were meeting to discuss possible deals to see if we could better the blues, same too with tiges

Only for two years. End of 2010 is the danger period for uncontracted players.

I know everyone is saying warnock is young and not even that good..big men take time to develop- we've only got jamar, who should go cos he's [censored]. PJ, who is better roaming around the ground, and Spencer, who could be good and looks alright. So we may as well try and get warnock, and by this swap of picks 1 and 3, we essentially lose nothing, and if anything take the pressure off jack watts.

BB that is utter crap! he has played what? 21 games? why in the heck would we ry and give up our most prized pick for a skinny dud that chose carlton ( which makes me even more angry!) as his prefered choice over us. warnock has not shown any glimpse of talent that would be worth giving up number one pick! guys like buddy franklin would be someone u wud bloody give up pick one! not warnock ffs! naita killed him this year and jumped all over him..

GET THE MESSAGE GUYS STAY CLEAR OF WARNOCK!!

If its a draft, Warnock has to agree.

what he's trying to say is that we will be getting watts regardless if it is at pick 1 or pick 3, so giving up our first pick to get a third pick will not make a difference

he's played 21 games and his 21 years old..could turn out to be a good ruckman, something that doesn't come by very often

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
