USELESS gets caught ever time he gets the ball, can't kick bad decision maker needs to spend time in the 2's

Is really struggling, no doubt, but we need to persist with him.

He had two very serious injuries which he is still recovering from, one of which will permanently affect his career (the knee). That he even made it back is a miracle, as I've spoken to a few Melbourne people over the course of last year who said he might never play football again.

As a purely defensive player he is fairly good. Look at the job he did on McLeod just two weeks ago. As an attacking player he leaves a lot to be desired, but again we forget that he is affectively a second year player who has only done one full pre-season since he came to the club. He was a late pick and played every game in his debut year and was absolutely fantastic. He deserves some leniency before we label him useless!

have watched him for a few weeks. problem with bartram is that he is ano frills type who gets himself into contests. problem is he does not have the strength to stand up in tackles or to impose himself on his opponent. he has speed and a motor but he cannot physically play the game that he is trying to play. He is not useless but I think that the coaching staff need to redefine his role, maybe through the 2s.

Great goer, all heart, but will never play in a premiership side. Not enough class.

I still love the guy.

plenty of non-classy players have won premierships... but agreed that he would make up the 16th-22nd best player in a premiership team, rather than an important top 10 player for the club.

i would like to see him played as a permanent tagger. every club needs one and they play an important role. McDonald and Bruce have played these roles for too long...

Who was he on?

Hayes only had 7 touches... did he get hurt? I had a sneaking suspiscion maybe Bartram was on him.

Plenty of time this year I've thought he had a crappy 15 possession game, then turned around to read he smashed Andrew McLeod...

Hayes had 7 kicks & 13 hand balls = 20 possessions. Not dominant, but then again he was fighting his mates for the ball.

For all that, Bartram is not, sadly, what he was 2 years ago. He's a goner.

jeez there are some complete idiots on this site!! ffs the guy has come off a seriouse knee injury! [censored] were people expecting him to straight in and rack up 30 touches a game?

and what how old is he? bloody 20 years old give him time you old grumpy people! we are only kids u kno!

he is still getting up to speed coz he missed so much football!

GROW UP!

yep..agree.

would you use him in part of a trade ?? ( I would )

Bartram is not suited by being in a bad team stuffed with one-dimensional midfielders, he was good value in a good team a couple of years ago, where his Defensive Pursuit Skills and tagging were a defined piece in the jigsaw of a comparitevly complete and attacking team. Now, constantly under pressure and in a team where being a good shadow is less important, he is of less value. That said, his kicking skills and decision making are at a very basic level and barely VFL standard, so its probably going to be a case of playing to his strengths and handballing wherever possible like Viney did and to a lesser extent Godfrey did. In reality, though I wonder whether Bartram is just a quicker version of Godders and forever destined to matchup roles.

And a note on those complaing that he is coming back of injury, etc, I dont think really that is an issue, the problems he has in his game have been with him since he arrived and I dont think complaints about his play stem from his ability to run.

As you said, his disposal has always been rather average, however this was not so much an issue when surrounded by a really strong group of midfielders.

However, as I understand his knee injury has caused a permanent loss of cartridge, which reduces the strength and mobility of the knee. I think that could explain to a degree why he is getting caught so often and why his speed seems slightly reduced. He certainly doesn't change direction as well as he used to in his first season.

Time in the VFL to gather some confidence in his knee and possibly work on his skills in a less pressured environment could really help him.

Does this mean he won't be able to get a shot off in the sack?

Yeah his knee his dodgy, but he is plenty quick enough for AFL even still, he needs to play to his limitations, similar to a lot of them - Jones, Bell etc - problem is we have to many of them.

He's one of the few that is getting into the thick of it which why he is getting tackled so frequently. How many times did White get tackled yesterday? Bartram is getting mauled becasue no one is getting in there to help him. Everyone is running on the outside waiting for the dish.

That doesn't make sense. Class isn't a prerequisite for playing in a premiership side.

Most premiership teams don't have players who butcher the ball like Barty. Of course there are always exceptions but when I talk of a player not being good enough to be in a premiership side most people know what I mean. I view every player in this light. Are they likely to be of the quality to be in a 22 that's capable of winning a flag ?

Would he play in Geelong's team ?

I like Bartram, because he has a crack, and he's not a bad tagger, but I doubt he's good enough to help take this club to where we all want to go.

I doubt he has the class. And if it doesn't make sense to you ? Diddums.

Negatives - Poor disposal, poor lateral vision, poor decision making under pressure, lacks explosive pace

Positives - Has a dip, can run all day

Just like Godfrey expect that at least Godders was strong and managed to put off his opponent by getting into his face all day. I was quite surprised by the hype of his first year, often I thought that it must have been a different player. To me Valenti shows much more footy nous and awareness.

I understand that you think he doesn't have the class. I'm not a complete idiot (don't bother responding to that). I don't understand the conclusion you have drawn from it.

How'd you rate Brett Kirk when he started playing?

FWIW I agree that he lacks class, and no I don't think he'd get a gig in the Geelong team. IMO there's room for one player like Bartram in most teams though, so the blanket assertion that he's not good enough to play in any premiership side is one that I don't think is correct to make. Robert Copeland and Rowan Jones have premiership medallions to their names after all.

Does this mean he won't be able to get a shot off in the sack?

Maybe Jaded is from Beijing, 'you sweet littal orange blossom'.

This is what happens when, instead of listening, I read Demonland in class

bartram lacking explosive pace?? the guy is as quick as anyone on our team! his dash from the backline is something i admire from him coz atleast he is taking risks and backing himself. who cares if he gets pinged atleast he is having a red hot go unlike sum of our so called leaders!!

How do you justify that?

Did not play for 12 months and 10 games in he's going to be delisted? This year? Next year?

Batram is 20, is currently playing as a tagger on some of the best players, and is willing and selfless.

He is young enough and good enough to be around for our next window.

Show some calm people...

Dunn tagged Hayes.

Thanks...

Jeez I need better seats...
