My notes on the McNamee interview...

(Very friendly easy going interview.)

We are actually competing with the AFL for the 150th celebrations, which has hurt merchandising sales.

He also metioned how transparent he has to be in footy i.e make available commercial figures to so many different people, which is a lot more confidential in golf and tennis.

Have not finalised Casey fields deal. Would love to say it’s a done deal, but can’t.

Pretty likely we will not be at Junction oval next year. If Casey doesn't go through we will find somewhere else.

Jim Stynes for president? – no comment but only to mention that whatever happens we not only have a smooth transition but more people want to get involved in the club.

On the bugler – creating some show biz, and wants Melbourne to create a theme for each game, even if it’s a once off (e.g Neita’s retirement last week). Bugler has been good, but did jump in too early in the Freo match which wasn't considered won a few minutes before the siren.

Missed his comment when asked about Demetriou (my kid was screaming).

-davey was on first and the interview wasnt very exiting

-triple m complemented him on his defensive pressure and how he opened the window for that sort of player

-davey likened himself to austin and he said he was like his little brother

the radio then mentioned there would be no changes for todays game

-he admited that this year was a set back and we will have financial trouble and there is not a lot we can do to stop it this year

-he is looking forward to when the 150 celebrations are over and the club can make their blue print for the future

-he said it is unfortunate that the AFL is celebrating our 150th and the dinner will be a big thing

-was asked about kennet and demertious comments from the previous week and paul basically said that he didnt pay much attention to it but AD was just stating the obvious because the club is in a setback year

-he said that melbourne cant locate anywhere outside of melbourne

-asked about facilities...junction not satisfactory

-they are trying to go casey fields in advance of the rectangular open but this hasnt been finalised

-they could make there terrific facilities, we would build a very good gym with the council and it would be a great growth corridor

-very likely we wont be at junction oval on november 1 this year

-asked about jim stynes...hes not involved in any way to do with board policits, he said he hopes whatever happens is done in good way for the club, which would be a good thing

-a lof of past people want to get invlolved with the club and they know the club is in a bit of trouble which is healthy

-aksed who was in charge of the bugler (the trumpeter) and paul jokingly said he jumped the gun against freo

-they are trying to create a theme for every week, kids day, the rematch with carlton, neitas retirement, obviously queens birthday

-asked about the back hand and he is still going to wimbledon which happens to be in a week off i think he said

i think this relates to the Rectangular Stadium... that it isn't a done deal yet... this really does concern me... i trust PMac to do everything he can in the best interests of the club, but it is a worry that the rectangular stadium isn't locked in 100%...

The rectangle stadium from late 2009 onwards is a lock, we have signed an agreement and we will be there once completed. The issue is a summer training venue, obviously Junction oval is not good enough and the club is (finally) rectifying that, but before we say goodbye to that venue we must have a place to go.

The rectangle stadium, as i said, is a lock. We will use that as a training facility (gym, recovery area etc), and we will aparently have Gosh's paddock as our training oval. We expected to be in there by 2008 but Victory delayed the construction by being indecisive on whether they would go there and the size of capacity, because of that we we didn't put a contingency plan for summer training.

BTW i'm already a fan of Paul Mac!
